I'm glad my disappointment could help someone else. I still shake my head about this purchase. I didn't make a video about it, but I later got a GREAT deal on a barebones G4. I was going to install the 2400GE but a standoff for the CPU was broken. I could not get the cooler off the socket to install the CPU without destroying the whole thing.

Thanks for the video, at the end of yhe video you mentioned something, did ETA Prime upgraded a 2400ge with a 2400g in his video? Seems like the link to that video was taken down.

Thanks for sharing your lack of knowledge. Was clear when called that thermal pad a sticker. It is there to transfer heat from the ssd, they are kinda oily to help with the heat. Also I just had the same thought but figured must be a bios restriction. only the SFF and mid towers can do ryzen from what i found. Thanks for trying it

the hp elitedesk g4 minis are for those who love the sound of a whirring fan going into serious overdrive (for example opening an app/moving the mouse across the screen). -b

Agreed. The cooling "solution" is not very satisfactory. For all the noise, they still run pretty hot when under load.

I know what you mean. I wish ETA Prime would have mentioned then noise, instead of the mini I would have gone for the SFF version. I reapply new thermal paste didn't really help and went into power options but it was already set at power saving mode and passive cooling. I tried changing the thermal pads on the heatsink. Nothing I tried has really improve the therrmals and noise. Now I'm too scared to even buy any type of mini PC for gaming cause that noise is horrible.

Also for some reason ETA Prime used MSI Afterburner to display the temps and he was getting slightly better temps than me, not sure why. Maybe because his PC only had an NVME inside. My PC has a nvme and SSD. I'm guessing the SSD takes some of space inside and makes the thermals slightly worse?

If you use cpuZ, what is the bios revision and date? I just bought the SFF 705 G3, not the mini, and i see in userbenchmark someone ran it with a Ryzen 1800X.

You do have an M.2 PCIe slot underneath the drive caddy.

This may help someone. 705 G3's came in 2 version one with APU (a6/a8/a10/a12) AM4 CPU and 1st gen Ryzen PRO (only PRO 1xxx Ryzens) BUT! Whats important the motherboard dont share bios, APU bios is P06_xxx and the Ryzen Bios is P09_xxx. Boards cannot be flashed so you cant change APU TO Ryzen and vice versa.

I have an elitedesk 705 g4 mt with a ryzen 5 2400g. I was planning to buy a ryzen 7 3700x to upgrade it. Will the ryzen 7 3700x be supported even after bios update?

@@HK23453 No, I don't think a 3700x will work on the 705 G4, at least I haven't found any information that would be able confirm this. You might want to check/search around if a 3400g could work, then probably the 3700x would work since you have a Mini Tower which can opt to use a dedicated GPU.

Isn't the A10 Amd CPU still in the AM3 socket?

I know far less about AMD CPUs than Intel, but the HP 705 Mini G3 has an AM4 socket. There were a number of A10 CPUs across several architectures - Piledriver, Steam Roller, and Excavator. They may have spanned several sockets. The A10-9700E is Excavator and takes AM4.

I admit that they aren't as good as I originally thought. They have proprietary issues, and cooling isn't great (or quiet). If only more reasonably priced options for thin mini pc cases were available!
