Ross, push the clutch down, it will help the engine turn over. You have to remember, you're turning a cold engine with cold thick oil along with a transmission that has cold thick oil. That's the one thing I love about these old trucks, you got plenty of room to work on them engines if needed to. Another thing you could do is, and this is what my grand dad used to do in dead of winter. He'd take a blanket, wrap over the engine, fire up a torpedo heater and let it warm up underneath, everything he did that to, fired right up after an hr or so. For the brakes, as another viewer mentioned, rebuild and bore out the master cylinder, they were really "under sized" for the size of trucks they were installed in. Great video as always, cheers :)

Ross, even though the old girl didn't fire up, you'll pursue the effort until it's running. Lotsa old farm trucks that were purchased new just never accumulated many miles during years of use. At least the engine wasn't stuck...a positive for potential revival.

When I've had batteries that low, I take them out if it's cold, warm them up and charge them at a low amp setting. If they charge up, they seem to last longer when trying to start whatever if it's been setting a while. And even then, I use jumper cables and/or a charger/booster while I'm trying to start it. Oh yea, starting fluid helps keep the cussing 🤬 at a minimum. Now you'll have time to clean out the cab.

Love these old Fords. Judging by the lack of wear on the pedals the odometer reading might be correct.

I didn't see any empty Mountain Dew bottles in the old truck cab, unless they were hiding under the seat. Old school buses make for great storage.

That might’ve been what I bought it for but this one was brand new and never been used. Don’t worry, I’ll accidentally poke a hole in it and ruin it before I get to use it 🤣

We had a 61 Ford we used as a grain truck very similar to yours. Ours didn’t have a hoist and the mill had to lift it to dump. The previous owner had a hog farm and he bought it new in pink. Ugly as sin and a joy as a teen to drive past my buddies. I almost forgot the pair of vise grips that it had instead of a gas pedal 😮

The brake issue is the bore diameter of the master cylinder. We did the same thing to our 60 and the brakes required a lot more force to get it to stop. We eventually took the old master cylinder and had to have it bored out and rebuilt. She stops really good now.

My grandpa had '63 F350. I think it was the same dash. I remember all the knobs sticking out and the light covers had a crystal look to them. It was near looking to a little kid, ha ha! It had that same engine in it too. I remember how it had the crossover pipe on the exhaust in the front

I love this era of Ford trucks, would like to have a pick-up in this condition but most of them were worked to death and are garbage or sitting under trees. My dad had a 1962 Galaxie with that same Y-Block engine in it. The engine worked well without many options but his next car, a 1964 Galaxie 500 had a 352 FE block with a four bbl. carburetor. It was a GREAT engine. We kept that car and I learned to drive in it. Different battery, maybe a coil and a set of points and that engine should fire right up. That truck is not in bad shape at all. Wish I was there to help you!

Hey, drizzle some old crank case oil on those grain truck hood hinges so when you get back to it they don's snap off nor kink the hood.

As bad as I hate to say this ignition part truly suck these days ! It seams like every year I end up putting new points and condenser in my combine (292 chevy) to the point I'm ready to put the electronic ignition distributer in it now. A new set should last more than a year or 25 hours run time but it seams thats all you get from the chinezume parts we now get cause there such high quality ! LOL Oh you would really like working on my old Dodge truck cause its open the hood and open the fenders and you can easily get to anything on the engine just standing beside it ! I love that old truck for that reason ! Bandit

The 1975 IH 1600 here has brake gremlins. In 22' I slapped a new master cylinder on it and fixed alot of trouble. In 23' I blew the cross over tube above the diff and that was a 10 cuss word job to sort out. Then on the way to the scale at the elevator the jumper tubes between the wheel cylinders on both sides of the diff blew, thankfully I was empty at that point. I got weighed topped up the master cylinder and made the 30 mile trip home😳 Another 10 cuss word job there filled it with corn and backed it inthe shed😡

You need to go through your place, gather up all of the parts, identify them, catalog them, and put them in assigned and numbered places. Then you could simply check your smartphone and walk directly to the part. The old ford should start. You might have to clean the carb. I agree that the size of the bore on the master cylinder needs to be at least equal to the original. Maybe you need to do a good bleeding job and adjust the brakes.

Dead batteries and low temps are a no no as they freeze same as water, 32F. Trying to charge or jump a frozen battery is an unsafe condition and at the least will make jump starting hard do to low cranking speed.
