Terrific instruction; clear, concise, well articulated and with the just right amount of enthusiasm. Possibly the best instruction, on the subject, anywhere on the Web! Well done.

Thanks for answering my request, more information was packed in this 8 minute video than my so called " seal team stick fighting " 60 minute dvd.

Awesome content re W.E. Fairbairn. I was not aware of his stick fighting, but you have made it abundantly clear. An old shovel handle, about 3’ long is what I have had in my car in certain areas where gang activity is common. Shovel handles are of a very durable wood/hard to break. I never had to use my baton, but having it handy provided peace of mind. Thanks for this excellent video.

I see some similarities to some of the Irish stick-fighting styles. These look like power strokes & fight enders. Also a lot of similarities to fighting while holding a rifle (w/ or w/o a bayonet attached) because of the palm up on the left hand.

Looks a lot like bayonet training. Only thing missing was the smash. And the parries.

Well taught. Im saving this video for future reference. Im fairly fit athletic dude of 63, but a knee injury, means i might be using a stick more often. I can legally carry around a nice weapon to defend myself against any person or persons who might offer me violence. Thanks for great video.

I feel like this would be viable against a knife attack, because you can execute a hard stop, as opposed to swinging the stick, which gives the stabber an opportunity to rush inside. Just my two cents…

Without much weight, an edge, or a hammerhead, I do see an advantage for holding the stick this way. Plus, it neatly blends with working with a rifle as a melee weapon. However, if you're up against a blade, I'd rather use the stick in a more conventional style to gain reach and speed...

What length would you recommend for the stick? Or is it more dependent on the size of the person using it?
@fairbairnprotocolh2h399
@fairbairnprotocolh2h399 11 ай бұрын
In my opinion skill with the stick is a dominant concern. This is especially true when considering the use of immediately available improvised "sticks" (e.g. anything handy that has length and a degree of sturdiness). In this context it is important be able to pick up anything and immediately adapt your skill set to it. OK; having said this, for the purpose of specifically two-handed stick-work you want to have at least 3" of the stick extending outside of your grip. The distance between you hands is moreimportant.

I always walk with a stick. Hunter`s dogs round here are a menace round here. Us older blokes, especially small ones, can feel more confident with a handy stick.

Yes Fairbairn Women's self-defense book does include this set of attacks, however you will also find them in Get Tough and All-in-Fighting. I think you will find them a very interesting exploration using your cane as they are 100% adaptable to that. Do be sure to select a good sturdy cane that will take the abuse.

@@fairbairnprotocolh2h399 - i have seen it in Get Tough. I have a good solid oak cane that i use when i go to the city. i am in Texas so i do carry... other things. i did study martial arts and did some stick fighting but with my mobility issues i have pretty much transitioned to WWII /Fairbairn methodologies. but i do still add my previous training to it when and where i can. i really appreciate the videos you do as it helps with my training. and the fact that you are keeping these proven techniques alive. very important and i appreciate it! thank you!!

@@andrewrodgers2180 Very welcome Andrew! just got back in from my gym in the backyard practicing these. i go full power, move as best as i can. i love martial arts i really do, but i just cannot execute them to the proper level anymore. but fairbairn i can with the possible exception of the donkey kick i think it's called. if these movements were good for The OSS, it's good enough for me. my newest motto is if you want to win, learn from those who won.

@@simontemplar4967 Good to hear my friend. Yes I find that the closer I get to an attacker the better for me. I can use CQ techniques or I can use my opponent as a prop to hold me up. I can use my home country's native fighting art, hockey fighting to good effect. Thankfully I have not had to test this in the field, but it seems at the moment to be a good plan. I use a walker, mainly when I have to traverse long distances. So I would like to work on or find out how to use it in a self defense situation. Also my kicking days are over somewhat. except from the ground. A side bar, wondering if you are a fan of the Saint tv series, judging by your online name ? Take care and keep buggering on.

In the common [Get-Tough / All in Fighting] Fairbairn methods of stick-baton use there are only five movements. Across the belly, up under the chin [1" back from point of chin], butt-stroke, downwards across the body [striking into the target with the side -of-the-tip], and held horizontally striking in with the center-side of the baton. These are what I cover here in this video. In an expanded version of Fairbairn method other strikes are present.
