Fairbank was a unique railroad town located in Cochise County which served a number of nearby mining communities and played host to three different railroads. Virtually all mining equipment and ore that was transported during the early days of mining passed through Fairbank.
The El Paso & South Western, New Mexico & Arizona, and Arizona & South Eastern Railroads all passed through Fairbank. Yet Fairbank never reached a population of 1000 souls.
Between 1881 and 1961 there numerous route changes in and around Fairbank, in fact so many that much of it is lost to history, and even the eminent rail historian David Myrick conceded that a detailed account was simply not available. But there are many interesting bit and pieces left, and that is what we are going to explore.
This is an interesting area, and I hope to return in the near future and discover more around Fairbank and the surrounding area--including some things I have already realized I missed!
