Me too! Digging around in the past is more fascinating that just watching the present--though I do both.

Thanks, Sean. Fairbank deserves another visit. Cochise county has a lot more to offer. Stay tuned for more from there.

Thanks! One of the things that intrigued me was that the New Mexico & Arizona was a ATSF subsidiary and they sold it to the SP. So then the SP ended up with two lines going to Douglas. Go figure

History lost thank you for trying to document some of it. ALL stay safe

Yeah, I think Fairbank could use a little more attention from a railroad standpoint.

Thanks, Jason. Almost like a nowhere place that was once the center of the earth, mining-wise.

These are interesting pieces of railroad history. Have you ever thought of tracing the Prescott Valley Iron KingTrail in the former Santa Fe Branch?

I will consider it. Thanks.

That railroad grade you were standing on towards the end was actually torn out around 2008, hence why it's not in so bad of shape.

Thanks for the update. I assume it was last run by UP?

@@W7DSY Not sure. Apparently it's owned by Ironhorse Resources now. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Pedro_Valley_Railroad

UP did grab up the abandoned sections a while back, I guess in case they may want to reactivate it again in the future? www.federalregister.gov/documents/2012/09/07/2012-22005/union-pacific-railroad-company-acquisition-and-operation-exemption-san-pedro-railroad-operating

Nothing grows in the old rail bed, even after nearly 100 yrs, it probably isn't safe to breathe the dust

Good point. The tailing piles around all of these mining towns don't support growth either.
