So I'm a dork and made the same mistake I always do, I said Fairy was weak to Fire, when really its just that Fire resists Fairy. Thankfully all the logic and lore still applies, but my wording here was incorrect. That being said, Fairy could use a nerf, and making them weak to fire just makes sense! Wouldn't be the first time they changed weaknesses.

I love the idea of Pokemon retroactively getting new types applied to them, I have a Gardevoir from Pokemon Emerald that just randomly decided at some point she doesn't feel like getting hit by Draco Meteor anymore.

Speaking of Gardevoir, the Pokedex says it can create black holes. WHY IS THIS NOT A MOVE YET??? Get on it Game Freak! Give us a black hole move for Gardevoir. It's a "black" hole, so it could be an uncharacteristically Dark type move, but since black holes are basically created by gravity, perhaps Ground type could be plausible as well.

It's iron actually but steel is nothing but iron with very high carbon content. Fae are generally adverse to iron among other things... such as clothing worn inside out.

The funny thing about Fairies is that what most people think is a fairy is not what fairies traditionally were. Fairies were at one point any magical creature including Goblins and Gnomes. And yes, Cthulhu could fall under the classification of fairy if it wasn't for the fact that he is so indescribable that people lose their minds over it. Then again some fairies were like that in mythology. Yes, Goblins are technically fairies. I just realized Snubbull and Granbull may be based on Cu Sith And yes, that thing is a freaking fairy. Cu Sith takes the form of a hybrid of sorts between a bull and a dog. Snubbull and Granbull are based on Bulldogs. Ya know, a subtle reference to Cu Sith.

Ultimately Fairy come from many ancient Celtic Pantheons and would all be loosely defined as good. But if we are going to go with more contemporary fairy lore it would be better to simply call them Necessary.

I agree with vermillionrubin here, a solar eclipse is the darkest light, a full moon is the brightest dark. I'm not just being contrary by the way, a solar eclipse occurs during the day, which is light ( assuming the world is functioning normally) and a solar eclipse is the darkest that light would get. In the same manner, night is dark and a full moon is the brightest that dark can get without becoming light through use of a source of light. Please let me know if I need some more clarification, because i just read through it again and if my insane mind weren't reading it I doubt it would make much sense.

I'm gonna make a slight stretchy reference here. In Final Fantasy 14 there's a job called Arcanist which can take two different paths, that of a Scholar or Summoner. Scholars are healers, using fairy magic along with their Fae companion, and the source of power for their spells come from something called AetherFLOW. Summoners on the other hand, are damage dealers, their source of power kinda comes from Bahamut(a destructive dragon), and in order for them to use their abilities they use a spell called Energy DRAIN. I find it real fascinating that a lot of those descriptions are similar to this video even if it was about Pokemon.

when you said Dragons controlled raw, untamed magic, that made me think: what if Fairies beat dragons because they control REFINED magic? While dragons blast things away with their raw power, Fairy-type can hone it much better to completely trump the draconic power out of sheer knowledge of how to properly use it. Kinda like pitching a bodybuilder against a blackbelt. You know which one packs the raw power, but who will win is another matter. Also, you got it right when Fairy doesn't mean just "tinkerbell-ish" stuff. Some books like Clockwork Angel and animes like Ancient Magus Bride use the word "Fairy folk" to describe all creatures similar to fairies, including goblins, imps, small youkais, mermaids and such.

Fire burns down nature and the Fairy type - according to the research done by Lockstin - is essentially nature magic thus it can't effect Fire, Poison, or Steel as easily as it could the other 15 types. All of those are human-related and are harmful to nature making nature have a hard time dealing with them, which is why they are the only 3 types that Fairy is resisted by.

So you forgot to mention, from a lore perspective....why are fairies strong against dark and fighting types? I kind of get the dark (because fairies are light and good which overcomes evil and all that jazz) but fighting type just seems out of left field. :) Also, despite dragon being my favorite type, I actually like the fairy type. They include various mystical creatures like yokai and fae, which I think is cool. Also, because of their introduction, game freak has been putting more dragons in the early game, since they're no longer this overpowered type that is only fair if you can get it late in the game. So, in summary, the fairy type has let me get some of my favorite Pokemon earlier. For example, In Ultra Sun I was able to get a Bagon after the first island instead of having to wait till after the eighth gym back in Emerald!

While the joke is that Fairies just creep trained, professional Fighters out... I suppose the Lore is in that Fairies are Trickster types. Can't fight fair against a being that can turn intangible to snicker & mock. While Fairy types are merely resistant to Dark (from what I can tell right now) that can be chalked up to saying that, as nature spirits, they live in the natural darkness... and know most of the oldest tricks in the book! Fighting types are weak to Psychic and Flying types because those two have a advantage when it comes to a 1 on 1 fight. Flyers have the air, and Psychic is either "brains over brawn" or "I wont let you touch me cause of telekinesis". Fairies are the tricker types, so they clearly can avoid damage from an an average fighter, all while hitting cheap tricks on them. With Dark, they are tricksters themselves, so they already know what dark types are fully capable of, so they dont see them as a threat. It's hard to scam a scammer.

I would like to see the relationship between Fairy and Grass explored more. I understand that Fairy is more about "nature" as opposed to physical botany, but many monotype Fairy pokemon should clearly be dual Fairy/Grass like Florges and Comfey. So... a few things: Fairy isn't weak to fire, fire just resists fairy. Hidden power doesn't change as you level up. Dazzling gleam is NOT a reskinned power gem - power gem hits only a single target in multiple battles and has 20 pp while dazzling gleam hits all adjacent enemies and has 10 pp.

This may be a dumb question... Moonlight is a fairy type healing move, useing the moons energy to heal yourself. Umbreon: Dark type, Learns Moonlight naturally. Granted it is a moon oriented pokemon, but does that mean Umbreon has a possible connection to the Fae? and strangely enough... Noivern: A Flying/Dragon type... A dragon type learning a FAIRY move? No, for one she's not a Djinn as Djinns are evil genies... think Jafar from Aladdin, for Two, while geinies are magical, they lean more towards dragon magic as they Warp it to their will, as opposed to redirecting the flow of Magic. As some others have said, Djinns are more similar to Genies, so if you consider Genies as fae creatures then I guess it could work. It'll probably end up being Tingle, though I have heard some people suggest Lip from Panel de Pon (or Tetris Attack as it's known out here in the west), she is a fairy and her weapon is already in Smash (it's that weird flower thing that most people have no idea what it's from), not sure if a moveset could be found for her that works, but it's just a suggestion that I've heard (just to clear up confusion, Lip isn't a character that I want as playable in Smash, same with Tingle, Lip is just a suggestion that I've heard some people mention and I thought I would mention it as well).

Fun little correction! The Blue for Boys and Pink for Girls is not quite as Western as you may think, at least in its core, it is still Eastern. You are completely correct that Blue represents more feminine traits, and Pink more masculine. But in the case of Feng Shui, more specifically the use of Feng Shui in personal body garments, it is quite common to dress babies in the opposing colors to their gender, in a rather Taoist (Yin and Yang like mentioned in other recent videos) sense of evening out either the more Masculine fieriness of boys, or the more feminine passiveness of girls. The use of Pink and Blue specifically is in that grey area of Eastern culture being taken up and borrowed by Western ones, so I can't speak much on those specific colors. (Source: Chinese Medicine course I had to take in college for my degree) :)

I always thought fairy was weak to steel because of the whole hero trope. Like, for example, when I think of “hero” I always think of them getting some legendary sword or something, a piece of steel that will save the day if wielded correctly. Then I think of fairies and things helping the hero. Fairy is weak to steel because the hero wielding the steel is being aided by the fairies, hence is kind of better than them. For example, Link gets his steel, the Master Sword, and then saves the great fairies and captures some of the lesser ones in bottles for his own use later. Link helps the fairies. Idk, just my thoughts.

Nope. A weakness to Cold Iron is one of the most common traits of faeries across all portrayals. It's often outright shown _draining_ their magic or cutting them off from the outside. Even the most powerful faerie queen in the world can't do much to you with a pair of iron handcuffs on.

I like the fairy type, but wish they would implement more of the "traditional" fae aspects. That's one of my hopes for sword and shield. MORE FAIRY AND DRAGON LORE YEEEEESSSS
