I was the production designer on this music video. I believe the company at the time was Palomar Pictures. Directed by Joseph Kahn and shot entirely in San Francisco. On locations and sets built in one of the Pier buildings. Was a crazy fun filled shoot.

FNM was great before Mike Patton joined... but holy shit, he was like the catalyst that just made them so fantastic and exciting to listen to. Pretty much anything he's involved in is pure gold and should be cherished for the remaining existence of human kind.
@OratoryJamesIV
@OratoryJamesIV Жыл бұрын
@@monstro3874 Agreed about Patton 100%, but let's be real here--they were an absolute mess before he joined. "We Care a Lot" had some of the worst tracks I've ever heard in rock music sandwiched in between a handful of decent tracks like "As the Worm Turns," "Jim," and "Why Do You Bother?" But, "New Beginnings" legitimately might be one of the worst songs ever written. Throw in the extremely rough first recording of "We Care a Lot," with "Greed," "The Jungle," and "Mark Bowen" which were also horrendous, and it was a really, really bad debut. Between Mosley's nigh-endless drug abuse and the constant in-fighting between the band members (again, a lot of which can be laid squarely at Mosley's feet), it is a miracle the core lasted long enough to get Patton. Bottum actually quit until they all agreed it was time to get rid of Chuck. FNM with Patton is legendary. FNM with Chuck was tragically forgettable.

The whole video is a tribute to/parody of the 1958 Hitchcock-directed movie "Vertigo". Singer Mike Patton plays the role played by Jimmy Stewart in the movie, and actress Jennifer Jason-Leigh plays the role(s) played by Kim Novak in the movie. A couple of the same San Francisco locations from the movie, such as the Brocklebank Apartments, Palace of Fine Arts, or Fort Point (in the Presidio right under the south end of the Golden Gate bridge) are also used in this video. Other scenes from the movie are referenced/duplicated on sets.

A year later I respond: The opening scene features Sutro Tower in the background, an SF landmark I love. Yet, it wasn't in the movie as it was actually finished in 1973. Also see Harvey Danger's - "Carlotta Valdez", a song directly about the movie Vertigo.

The music video, directed by Joseph Kahn, is based on Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo, a film dealing with acrophobia. Shooting occurred during 1997 in San Francisco, California. It features the lead singer, Mike Patton dressed in the same outfit as James Stewart's character, trailing a blonde played by Jennifer Jason Leigh, respectively dressed the same as Vertigo 's female lead Madeleine. Many scenes are recreated from the film, such as the opening rooftop sequence, Madeleine's plunge into San Francisco bay, Mike moving up and down a stepladder, the belltower sequence complete with the famous Hitchcock Zoom and the psychedelic dream sequence.

When this came out in 1997 I rushed out to get this cd. Great songs on it! I do not believe it got the credit it deserved during that time period. Pretty deep/intense lyrics on this song and ashes to ashes and this song really flowed well with that time period. Lots of music in mid-late 90's, so it kinda fell through the cracks... But dang, this song still feels fresh and new to me... Like so many other songs from this period... I'm ready to go back

I’ve loved this song practically since it first came out, yet never saw the video until now. Nice take on Hitchcock’s Vertigo and a pleasant surprise to see Jennifer Jason Leigh, sultry and severe in full siren mode as foil to the dashingly handsome detective Mike Patton.

Wow. I remember when this band was new and had like 3 popular songs and one was a cover. I never heard this song before recently. It is a great song that I thought was new when it showed up on my feed. After reading the comments and realizing it is pretty old I am pleasantly surprised and playing it regularly now. I guess now I will have to check out their other songs.

I quite honestly have not heard this song since probably the 90's. I think my brother and I had it recorded on a cassette. But from time to time it pops in my head. The beat and the part "your sorrow, tomorrow." What a trip I ran into this. I couldn't even remember it was Faith No More and Mike.

Great song by a great band with an excellent video based on a classic Hitchcock film. This interpretation includes scenes Hitchcock probably would have loved to include in "Vertigo" if he thought it would get past the censors at the time.
