FNM was great before Mike Patton joined... but holy shit, he was like the catalyst that just made them so fantastic and exciting to listen to. Pretty much anything he's involved in is pure gold and should be cherished for the remaining existence of human kind.
@OratoryJamesIV Жыл бұрын
@@monstro3874 Agreed about Patton 100%, but let's be real here--they were an absolute mess before he joined. "We Care a Lot" had some of the worst tracks I've ever heard in rock music sandwiched in between a handful of decent tracks like "As the Worm Turns," "Jim," and "Why Do You Bother?" But, "New Beginnings" legitimately might be one of the worst songs ever written. Throw in the extremely rough first recording of "We Care a Lot," with "Greed," "The Jungle," and "Mark Bowen" which were also horrendous, and it was a really, really bad debut. Between Mosley's nigh-endless drug abuse and the constant in-fighting between the band members (again, a lot of which can be laid squarely at Mosley's feet), it is a miracle the core lasted long enough to get Patton. Bottum actually quit until they all agreed it was time to get rid of Chuck. FNM with Patton is legendary. FNM with Chuck was tragically forgettable.

The whole video is a tribute to/parody of the 1958 Hitchcock-directed movie "Vertigo". Singer Mike Patton plays the role played by Jimmy Stewart in the movie, and actress Jennifer Jason-Leigh plays the role(s) played by Kim Novak in the movie. A couple of the same San Francisco locations from the movie, such as the Brocklebank Apartments, Palace of Fine Arts, or Fort Point (in the Presidio right under the south end of the Golden Gate bridge) are also used in this video. Other scenes from the movie are referenced/duplicated on sets.

The music video, directed by Joseph Kahn, is based on Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo, a film dealing with acrophobia. Shooting occurred during 1997 in San Francisco, California. It features the lead singer, Mike Patton dressed in the same outfit as James Stewart's character, trailing a blonde played by Jennifer Jason Leigh, respectively dressed the same as Vertigo 's female lead Madeleine. Many scenes are recreated from the film, such as the opening rooftop sequence, Madeleine's plunge into San Francisco bay, Mike moving up and down a stepladder, the belltower sequence complete with the famous Hitchcock Zoom and the psychedelic dream sequence.
