If I had to guess why the remakes turned out the way they are, its probably because Legends of Arceus might be the real Sinnoh remake, or reimagining if you would call it, while BDSP might've been just a temporary game for Pokemon fans to lag onto before that game comes out. I don't know. Even though I like this game, It is underwhelming that they didn't do that much to make it stand out, in terms of other remakes. Sinnoh is my favorite region, but even I knew as a kid that Platinum and DP were a lot different from one another. I honestly thought the remakes were going to be like ORAS, possibly better since Sinnoh has more lore and interesting concepts than Hoenn. Plus, Platinum's content surpasses Emerald a bit, so it would've made the games more fun than ORAS. But I guess Hoenn fans are the true winners at the end of the day, which is not a bad thing btw (I liked ORAS too).

No 100% agree. I haven't bought the game (I'm not interested in BDSP, saving my money for Legends), but from the gameplay I've seen secret bases look so darn bland. I loved secret bases in the gen 3 games because of the different environments you can build one in (tree, cave, etc.) and the furniture. In BDSP they all just look like bland brown caves with the only difference being the statues inside. What's the point of even bringing them back? Just make the statue mechanic a tool option or something.

Something I've not seen anyone else complain about is the quirkiness between the player character and the world. The game world is basically the same one from the originals, designed on a grid for four-directional grid-based movement. The player character is not and can roam completely freely. And within 5 minutes of booting the game up and trying to run between trees on Route 201 is that the collision boxes of the world are still square, even on more rounded terrain features. You're constantly running into odd collision walls when being off-grid, even in the Grand Underground caves. The closest you can get is to use the Switch's rather bad D-Pad which still doesn't keep you perfectly on grid. It feels like they should have made a choice to keep us on the grid if they didn't want to do an ORAS-style re-design of Sinnoh. It would have been a dated style of play in 2021 but it'd have been less frustrating to move through the world in several places.

Also, it really puts things into perspective how the GTS, the crowning feature of Gen 4, is now locked behind a separate phone app and a paid subscription service, and neither it nor the GWS they replaced it with are available in the game at launch. I'm quite disappointed with how little this remake seems to try, with the complete lack of any big platinum material, no new content, and a quite bizarre almost mobile-game-like artstyle. BDSP to me just screams 'budget' which is not the word that big Nintendo games should ever be getting much less Pokemon. And its not like it isn't _fun_ too, Sinnoh is enjoyable to go back to, the ingame battle visuals are pretty good, the remixes are a bop and I appreciate the small changes here and there that made the endgame portion even more engaging. The Cynthia champion battle was somehow even harder than of DP and I love it. It's just that when you a) repeat the same mistakes as the original-when the past rerelease version did fix almost all of them, and b) you put in _less_ legacy content from Platinum when previous remakes always had at least some form of third game gameplay segment, and c) charge it all for the full $60USD whereas the originals were like half of that and it all just makes you think if the Pokemon Company really cared, or just asked the devs they commissioned this game to that they can just do the bare minimum.

And it's clear they were aware of all of that because BDSP are so close to the vanilla originals that they have a pretty hard time justifying their existence and value. The reality is that with the outsourcing and the rehashing these remakes are a filler release to have people know the context of the Sinnoh region for the more transformative and much-promising Legends Arceus.

I'll always think that not having the Battle Frontier is such a waste. Gen 8 has made it easier than ever to create competitive teams super quickly, but outside of PvP, there's nowhere to use them. I did not really expect BDSP to include platinum content, so at least that was not a let down for me. Still was a downgrade since I kinda forgot how bland the characters were in DP in comparison to Platinum. For me the worst part of BDSP is that it feels... unfinished. Pokemon models sometimes look like they accidentally included early designs that kinda seem like they took Pokemon Stadium models and just grinded down the edges. The bike clips through stairs, jumping down ledges doesn't work sometimes, as if there is an invisible wall. And of course the exp and affection mechanic should always be options.

Where this game really shines is IMO the post game. Yes, it really sucks that we lost the Battle Frontier, but they added a lot to the Battle Tower to make up for it. The Master Class is great, I like that they're utilizing memorable NPCs from the base game as bosses for it, and every battle is legit challenging with enemies using Legendaries and actual strategies with good AI. Even more so in doubles where you throw in Team Galactic, the Stat Trainers and E4 as bosses too. To add to that if you don't wanna do the Battle Tower, the Gym Leader rematches and E4 rematches are already some of the toughest non Battle Facility battles in the entire franchise. I literally lost to Maylene's rematch like 5 times. Of course it sucks I had to go out of my way to reduce affection (which is btw, the WORST mechanic in modern Pokemon), but once I was able to play normally, using my challenge rules, it was really fun and gave me a thrill no other Pokemon game could. I really hope ILCA keeps making Pokemon games. Their boss design and art design is top notch, and they were really held back by making faithful games. An ILCA BW remake would be INCREDIBLE.

If Game Freak continues to have ILCA do remakes and give them leeway to do more with the source material, and if ILCA takes feedback on BDSP into account and makes sure to fix what they got wrong and build on what they got right, they could end up making a masterpiece of a remake. I agree that the postgame rematches in BDSP are phenomenal for their challenge, even with affection maxed out, as I have to actually plan ahead for these battles.

You summed it up pretty well at the end and it's why I didn't like all videos like this one. We never got a 3rd version remake (except for Let's go games, but I'm focusing on the first pairs of remakes only) and with how much everyone is losing their minds about not getting a platinum remake, even though our expectations were set to receive brilliant diamond and shining pearl, not *dazzling platinum* is becoming whiny to me. Games are not the problem, the problem is in the perspective - *if you see bdsp as a downgrade to platinum and not as an upgrade to dp, you will never be satisfied with the games.* And no, delta episode is not an argument because it clearly didn't exist in emerald. Also, on the other side, excluding Rotom forms in the postgame would mean cutting off existing pokemon which is why it had to be in the game. Since, after all, you *can* get Crobat in FRLG postgame. That's why it is called postgame. But anyway, I'm rambling. I think that other than excluding Tangela and Yanma, uncomfortable movement and the fact that affection is much more powerful than in swsh, these games made every correct decision (since bugs and glitches are not intentional and will be fixed) and are some of the most fun official games I've played. And to be clear, I don't think Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are anywhere near as bad as The Room, I'm just using an extreme example to illustrate my point that faithfulness does not equal quality. And these remakes are so frustrating because they deliberately ignored all the improvements that Platinum made which would have made these sequels much better games, games we will unfortunately never be able to play with modern graphics on a modern console.

Pokémon games are easy and i’m aware of that. i just wish they would realize a lot of their fans are returning to/growing with the franchise now that the main series is off the DS format and onto a more mainstream option like the switch. The picking and choosing of certain platinum aspects and their loyalty (to a fault) with some of the decisions made to recreate D&P are confusing as well. In a perfect world, we get a platinum remake with elements of DP driving the main story, along side some basic AI and UI improvements. I didn't realize it until I started playing Brilliant Diamond and started going back thinking that things were a little, but not too much, different than I remembered them to be and realized just how much was changed from DP to Platinum. Gym leader order, how/when you can obtain certain pokemon or hold items, etc. There's just an incredible amount of quality of life changes from just DP to Platinum that it's actually crazy that they didn't just remake Platinum and just give BDSP the Diamond & Pearl storyline (as in legendary pokemon) differences.

The issue is that if these games came out on their own, they'd be a lot of fun. We just have platinum, BW, XY, SM, and SWSH now to compare them to. They don't have the same benefits to the region as Platinum and they don't have a lot of the quality of life upgrades as the future games. I really like the extra challenge in the NPC design, that was amazing and I hope we get more of that in the future, but there were too many basic features they left out seemingly for the sake of it.

Honestly I love the affection, I like that Pokemon will Dodge moves or do Critical Hits. Like a real life Pokemon battle instead of just using two digital Sprites to smash up against each other
@JPRPokeTrainer983 жыл бұрын
I do think Affection adds some character to the battles, my main gripe is just that it can't be disabled and that the bonuses are a teensy bit over the top imo

@@JPRPokeTrainer98 I will admit Diamond and Pearl remakes have OverDrive affection. It should be a lot harder to get friendship like it should take your whole journey to gain friendship

I really enjoyed BD. But I think there are a few factors that went into that 1. I played the heck out of Diamond, its probably the single game in the franchise I put the most hours into, after the original Silver. 2. I never played Platinum 3. I haven't played Diamond in about a decade, so BD was almost like an entirely new game to me. I've never really felt much of a challenge in any Pokemon game, mostly because when I was younger, I would spend a bunch of time before each gym mindlessly level grinding my party, including any new type counter I might have picked up, so the Exp Share literally just saved me from the grinding I would have done anyway, though at parts I was still overleveled a little. But Cynthia in BD was the first time I've *lost* to a level appropriate Gym Leader/Elite 4/Champion in a *very* long time, and that was really cool to actually have a challenge to overcome, and the Elite 4 weren't total pushovers either. Having a lvl 5 affection Jirachi didn't really help all that much, and I thought it was cool that they brought in some Mythicals to get early on, because I missed out on Jirachi, Darkrai, and Shaymin during the original Diamond. I think the only real issue I had with the remake was that secret bases were no longer a thing we could decorate, they were now just a place to put statues, and I thought that kinda sucked because the secret bases were kinda fun. Ramanas Park is also a decent replacement for Pal Park, though digging for shards is a pain in the butt.

Great background music choices. I especially liked Engage the Enemy for the shiny Palkia crit.

I will just say I’ve never had a problem getting the Evolution items because every time I’ve caught an Elekid or Magmar or Gligar, it was holding the corresponding evolution item.

Knowing Pokémon, their answer to nerf the happiness boost will just be to take out following Pokémon forever and take the lazy way out

when i reached cynthia i was super underleveled which was some of the most fun i had in a pokemon game an actually close champion battle her garchomp basically wipe my team regardless of set up or effective attacks or not i baited out her earthquakes to switch to a flying type
@LetsHelpMarkus3 жыл бұрын
Basically that. I skipped a lot of Routes and ended up on the same Level as Cynthia at the End (it's torture to clean up afterwards). And at that Point I didn't give a Thing anymore, because the Affection killed the Enjoyment. *Lopunny survived Garchomps Earthquake with one HP because it loves me, It crits for me and survive another Earthquake with the 1 HP it had before (took no Damage from Satan himself).* So yeah, I finished the Rematches and Extra Island afterwards, but didn't bother to beat Cynthias strongest form nor to catch all the Legendaries. I just threw the Game to the Side an was done.

(10:04) This is my biggest complaint. They have all these Pokémon Underground, but for some reason no one on the surface uses them. It is especially painful because Roark visits you underground so it is not hidden from the public. Game Freak should have given Roark a rhyhorn to show off the new Pokémon in the underground. Volkner & Flint should use the underground Pokémon so that they can actually have a full electric and fire team.

Platinum is such a complete Nintendo DS game, same as Emerald being the best GameBoy Advance game

Here's the thing about HGSS and ORSA. They were never advertised as Faithful Remakes, BDSP were. I knew it was going to be DP all over again with some minor changes. I tried telling people it was going to be basically DP all over again. No one believed me. And here we are, I'm actually enjoying the game because I never got my hopes up for more then what we were promised, other then changing how they handled to getting of Spiritomb.

The worse part is it will still do numbers so they’ll continue to give us bs until the fanbase finally learn to stop rewarding mediocrity

10:35 I feel this now that I have the game. Just to get a cleffa, I have to wake up and start up the game before 10 am if I want the encounter odds to be the highest, and that also applies if I want to use thief to snatch a moonstone from a cleffa. If I want a shiny stone for roselia, I need to assemble a full team of pachirisu with the pickup ability and hope one of them picks up a shiny stone while I’m grinding. I thought this game eliminated grinding but no. Sure, leveling up and evolving sneazel right before the Pokémon league was long and tiresome, and the exp share being an item took more grinding in the beginning, but I will gladly erase my memory and play platinum again if it also means I get to have my jolteon

Honestly what they should've done for the... Gameplay: Use the SWSH Engine and create a UI that is faithful to the original but also fitting for modern standards. The Region itself: Could've expanded the cities to make it slightly more realistic (hell, they could've pulled a Mauville and made Jubilife or Veilstone SO much bigger) and make their designs akin to Platinum (imo the Galactic Buildings having the same design feels super bland and Jubilifes color scheme seems kinda off). They should've also redesigned important areas like the Spear Pillar. Gyms: They could've made the gym puzzles a mixture of DP and Platinum. A good example is Fantina. Rather than recycling her original puzzle from DP, they could've incorporated Platinum by making it so that at the start of each room, you get the question and you're supposed to search for the door with the right answer in the dark. Or for Gardenia they could've turned the forest maze into a flower maze instead. Pokedex: JUST USE THE PLATINUM DEX and probably add some new ones as well Character Designs: make new ones that are a mixture of their designs from all three games (Lucas and Dawn's new outfits could simply be their Platinum Outfits with the color scheme of their Diamond and Pearl Outfits) Plot: Recreate the original plot from Diamond and Pearl but make a post game based on Platinum Honestly this game had so much potential it makes me cry they made it go to waste. Hope they dont do this with Unova Remakes (or Kalos, in fact if they did an ORAS on Kalos remakes it'd might be 100 times better than the original x and y)
