I severely appreciate this content. Short, informative, and fun. Shaq is the Alton Brown of KZbin that I’ve always wished for and somehow never found. Also appreciate Willow as a cohost.

My night- pickling mustard greens, baking blueberry bread, and rendering beef brisket fat while listening late at night with a tangerine whiskey sour and EATER'S DIGEST. My comment- for the algorithm. My thoughts- Willow's awesome and the synergy between the two of you is good too.

Back around 1992 in the re-dawning of craft beer, Bridgeport Brewing set up shop in a Portland rope factory. Their pub served beer and pizza, and the pizza dough was made using leftover wort from the mash. So NOT beer-flavored pizza, but using beer byproduct to make a very tasty pizza.

Lab grown meat bans make me unreasonably upset. Factory farming is the industry LEAST worth protecting. It's literally a dystopian torture machine, bad for the environment, bad for disease prevention, and relies on huge government subsidies to keep prices affordable. If we could solve even ONE of those issues with convincing artificial meat, we should. It boggles my mind that the average American is okay with current meat production as it stands.

Could you elaborate on the single serve bathroom thing and why you’re against it? In the state I live in, a lot of places have single restrooms so that they can be unisex because it’s illegal for trans people to use gendered restrooms. That’s the only practical reason I know of to have a single serve restroom other than size constraints. Interested to see what other reasons there could be.

I am not surprised the Kelce mix is an insane combination of cereals. You should always be wary of any food suggestions from an Offensive lineman, anyone who has to eat like 9000 calories a day is going to have insane preferences.

Great episode, your transitions are on point Shaq. Also, for the lab grown meat, I still feel like we are a ways away from being able to synthesize like an entire steak. It’s mostly chicken products being created, they’re using chemicals to fertilize eggs to produce proteins, skimming the protein off the top and making stuff from that. Nobody even knows if it’s more sustainable currently, and not sure what it would taste like but if chicken nuggets are basically not even meat already so as long as it tastes good I’ll try it

as a resturaunt worker, I would NOT mind AI and cant imagine anyone losing a job over it, what resturaunt has dedicated phone answerers? But from a business perspective, if they cant navigate to our website to make a rezzo, why would I assume they can navigate an automated answering machine. Not to mention they say the "AI" can answer questions but in such a volatile industry like resturaunts, I cant imagine the answers would be terribly accurate too often.

12:02 “It’s predicted that lab-grown meat, even produced on a mass scale, is going to cost around $28 a pound, making it pretty prohibitive and impossible to get.” Makes sense until you consider that the cost of beef would be similar or higher if it weren’t for the massive amount of subsidies the industry receives. What if we spent some or all of that money on improving the efficiency and environmental impact of lab-cultured meat instead?

Will it actually be AI though? There's a place here in NYC that has been using an "AI" host for a couple years now... it's actually just someone on a webcam in the Philippines - kinda like Amazon Go, just less Indian.

Hallucinatory data and simple policy questions that no restaurant actually has formatted and answered seem to render AI for restaurants… silly? An expense that’s not doing anything, it may be a bother to answer a call and break your flow but I’ve never even heard of someone complaining that their experience was slowed by that kind of interaction. Additionally the only person I know who calls is a 25 year old who calls because often restauranteurs aren’t perfectly web savvy with keeping changed updated, the online info often being pretty out of date. (Edit, final thought) I personally would feel on encountering it the same touch of a corporate hand I feel from a phone tree, I get it but I don’t like it, sure it could make some sense for the Cheesecake Factory but my local taqueria?

"Is having one single serve bathroom helping or harming coffee shops because the only personal conclusion I can come to is that I won't go there myself" ?? I have never heard this take, can someone elaborate on why this is bad
@noobkin9973 ай бұрын
In my state a lot of places do this in order to not have gendered bathrooms because it’s illegal to use a bathroom different than the sex you were assigned at birth…I really hope that’s not the case here. It would be a huge disappointment to find out that he’s one of those people that has nothing better to do than obsess about other people’s genitalia.

While lab grown meat will be expensive, keep in mind that cattle and chicken farming is heavily subsidized and thus has the prices so low. Would the cost of lab grown and farm raised be comparable once you take away those subsidies?

I feel like lab grown meat is largely for vegetarians and vegans and functions as luxury proteins are for unrestricted eaters, a high end indulgence that is not a super meaningful market segment, like dry aged beef.
