she's such a fake gamer she played the whole game, unlike a real gamer like the quartering who didn't play it gamer to the maximum He still pumps out like 30 videos a week cause he's basically a content farm for geek outrage, its unlikely he has much time to play any games or be informed about anything, his whole career is pushing his own agenda on any topic, takes advantage of every facet of geek culture (games, movies, comic books) without having any passion for it but goes around claiming and shaming others for doing exactly what he's doing

I'm a bit late, but: There's no chance that those videos take more than twice their runtime to post. It looks like he opens up OBS, records a rant in one take, and then plops an endscreen on it. Assuming an average of 10 minutes per video, each taking 20 minutes to record/render/upload, that's about 10 hours of work in a week for 30, which is *extremely* generous. I'm sure he spends three times that on social media and considers it brand work or research, so I guess we can say he 'works' for 40 hours a week if we really stretch the definition. With his utter lack of production value, it would be genuinely insulting for him to claim that he "doesn't have the time" to play games. Hopefully that statement stays a semi-joke in your comment, else he's probably convinced thousands of people that he works hard on that garbage, which is a scary thought.
@Redditaurus
@Redditaurus 2 жыл бұрын
so here's the thing, i've been aware of his content since 2018, but i'm not convinced he's something such as, "far-right". i believe he's an idiot, but i want to argue that being anti-sjw =/= nazi. i'm not an anti-sjw myself; i've been very critical of the "community" for awhile now, in that they do the same stuff as sjws, but there's nuance in every argument. that's my mindset. on an unrelated note, bobvids said, "there's no such thing as an objective review", but he contradicted himself by broadly stating, "all reviews are subjective" < this is an [objective] claim. i'm a subscriber, so this comment isn't from a place of negativity.

@@Redditaurus I was just using the joke metric that OP gave, "He still pumps out like 30 videos a week," and yeah, that is an exaggeration - hence me calling the calculated amount of 'work' he does in a week extremely generous. Whether or not it's accurate was irrelevant. That he (probably?) does much less than that strengthens my point anyway, as there's even *less* room to claim he's doing a lot of work, thus he absolutely has tons of time to play games. Unless he works another job...? But I'll go out on a limb and say he almost certainly runs a Patreon and gets loads of money from it. As an aside, bob saying "all reviews are subjective" doesn't contradict anything, as he isn't reviewing reviews. Besides, it's important to remember that what one presents in a review adds to this subjectivity. Even if the review is solely substanceless, objective claims, the decision to review a particular work isn't also objective, they still had to choose it and decide it was worth talking about. This extends to what the reviewer goes on to mention in their review, because given aspects have to be deemed important enough to include. Point is, even regardless of the contents of their statements, it's already built to be subjective. Stating as such, then, isn't a stretch, and it's a fairly easy conclusion to come to with some thought. Making the claim that all reviews are subjective is leagues different from stating that a given game mechanic or narrative idea is objectively good/bad anyway - they aren't comparable. One is about the nature of critique, the other is about what makes people like a piece of art. The latter varies wildly, but the former is, at its *least* concrete, a philosophical discussion about which parts of a review come from one's subjective experience. It's a little silly to conflate the two and accuse bob of somehow being a hypocrite when they are fundamentally different.
@Redditaurus

@@Kirobsi know what? you're right - in some sense. english isn't my home language so it's sometimes difficult for me to discern a joke from a serious point. on that note i digress. as an aside, i think there _can_ be objective reviews. i'm not sure how to thoroughly phrase my thoughts, but i'll try. on bobvids' take, "this game runs at 30 fps", then "30 fps should be 60", if one makes a strong enough position, then "30 should be 60" could be turned into an objective statement. suppose it's a button-mashing game, one could argue that the lower fps makes actions slower/more difficult, which in turn, is detrimental to the gameplay. in the events that it's a combat game, players must be on higher alert than if the game were to run at 60 fps, as their character's movements aren't as smooth and fluid as most games in its genre. this is my hypothetical, objective take; i could better explain my hypothesis, but again, i'm not a native anglo so my words aren't the best conveyor of thoughts. on the subject of "all reviews are subjective", i can't remember whether or not i called bobvids hypocritical, thanks to my short memory. if i came off that way, i did not intend as such. the way i saw it, is, this can be interpreted as an objective assessment, unless stated otherwise. if this his message is [subjective], then this creates a loophole wherein [some] reviews CAN be objective. get me?

Can't say I'm surprised tho. The Quartering and all the ~GaMeRs~ like him genuinely cannot fathom how someone could give a low score to a game they themselves like. The only possible explanation to them is that it's some nefarious "SJW" plot. The criticism shouldn't be 'leave your feminism at the door!' or 'politics has no place in video games!,' it should be a clear demonstration that the review fails to meet its mark on its own terms; 'saying that saying that "white male = bad" is bad' is just more of the same shit from another dull and thoughtless angle. Tattoos are removed via laser not because it burns but because it superheats the metal in the ink and explodes it. I know this for truth because I am currently undergoing the tattoo removal process.

Wait, so if you have tattoos and get horribly burned, rather than the skin becoming disfigured obscuring the image, you’re tattoos remain just as clear and visible as the day you got them? The only change in the superficial view of the tattoo is they sink into the skin deeper” making something that’s permanent “more permanent”? I ask because I think you mistake the purpose of “burning off a tattoo.” It’s not to remove it as in it no longer exists, it’s to obscure the image so the image no longer exists in an extremely painful way to teach a lesson. It’s why in your tv show example, the tattoo was “removed” by a gang and not a doctor.

@@allnightfright619 that's exactly what I'm saying, yes. There was a nightclub fire in America a few years ago in which every body was so badly burned, immediate physical identification was impossible. What the coroners had to do was look at the tattoos of victims and pair them up with local tattoo artists to speed up the identification process. Your skin doesn't grow outward when it burns pal, it's not fryer fat. It recedes due to the loss of liquid and drying out of the skin making the tattoo *more* visible.
@paulkielty8385

@@allnightfright619 also the burning would not obscure *OR* remove the image in any way. The reason they do it is because the gang own the "patch" and former members are not allowed to wear or use it. However television rarely gets medical issues right and often go on the same sort of assumptions you are going of. Ie. It sounds right therefore it must be right, it is, however wrong. Burning a tattoo does not obscure it. Yes it will be a punishment but it will not remove the patch. Also the more permanent thing I said might not be very eloquent but it's true, tattoo ink can "fall" and be broken down by the immune system and fade very easily due to UV rays if too close to the skin, pushing it deeper into the skin protects the ink and makes it more secure.

Also, thanks for mentioning that reviews at their core are subjective. You can do whatever to make it objective, but there will always be part of your own experience in the review that isn't compatible with everyone else. Only if like hundreds of people would actually review the subject under the same conditions (i.e. rating the exact same points a specific score) would it become more Objective as it would now reflect the views of multiple. That's why sites such as rotten tomatoes show a total rating based on all current ratings. It gives a more general, objective view of what the majority is feeling about.

In fact, there's a lot of questionable things that Days Gone doesn't think is that big of a deal to talk about, throws it up and you're just supposed to accept. Nay, even just do it because you're rewarded for it. Like Deacon finding desperate people and selling them like Cattle to be forced labor for all of the settlements including - a crazed survivalist who is essentially LaVoy Finicium of the Malheur occupation who spouts about how he knew the government conspiracy was always there about anything and everything and how much he enjoys murdering his ideological enemies, a former prison warden running everyone else but her like dogs to farm possibly the worst land in Oregon and Deek's been selling people to her for a while because she keeps working them to death; and one more settlement that descends more viciously into madness as soon as Deek arrives. The only camp that doesn't want slaves and instead settlers, is Lost Lake - the camp Deacon and Boozer was kicked out of - because they sold people to Tucker and Copeland for camp credits. Rarely does this game touch upon how many people you can "rescue" only to sell them for credits for guns, gas and bike parks. And that only exception is a single young girl Deacon grows a conscious for enslaving her to Tucker, having her run away, refusing to really help her and just drop her off at Lost Lake, watch her once again escape to The Rippers and only survive to brutally murder the Marader Gang Deacon created because she decides to get him out of his chains. Deacon spends more time whispering and muttering to himself about how much he's going to enjoy killing every random fight he stumbles into, either with Freakers or with random violent people who are somehow worse than he, than ever thinking "Wow, maybe I did something bad". Boozer does at certain points. But then, Boozer merely exists to be a character we protect and show empathy towards amid the human suffering we casually enact because Its a Zombie Apocalypse and I guess we can't have narrative standards to even Romero level introspection and criticism of human nature. 6:41 and you don't really need the rest of the video, just this little bit right here. "Um, *sniffs and Adjusts Glasses* AHctually, its the Zombie Apocalypse!"

To add to this Deacon basically no self awareness, especially regarding Skizzo. I get that he is kinda slimey, but when Skizzo betrays him and Boozer to save the Lost Lake camp (Which is a perfectly understandable motivation) he burns with unending fury and desires his painful death. I'm not saying betrayal and sacrificing people is a good thing, but Skizzo was doing it for noble reasons (whether or not that's a reasonable excuse is debatable, but its something as opposed to Deacons nothing). However. because Deacon can never be challenged, Skizzo does a 180 and turns out to be an evil bad man working for the Militia (Who may also have been unnecessarily reduced to simple villain's because Deacons say they are like that with no good reason. However, its been a while since I last played my memory is foggy) that will kill everyone he ever knew for his benefit. Plus, Deacon treats O'brian like garbage and can't get it through his thick head that things aren't all champagne and luxury at NERO bases. Point is that the game will simplify factions and even characters to ensure Deacon is never questioned in his morals or actions, despite being in need some desperate questioning. Honestly, I rather enjoyed the game. The story may have been lacking but I did enjoy the various types of gameplay and Hordes were just a treat, so it clearly didn't affect my experience too much, but still worth mentioning.

I don't think I'd go that far regarding subjectivity : both caucasian and protagonist have definitions you can refer to without relying on feelings to define them. Taking Caucasian, one of its definitions is "A person having light-colored skin; a white person.", so it would definitely apply in that case, no matter what one's views on ethnicity are. As for protagonist, wouldn't it be possible to demonstrate that said character is the main one ? As he's the main focus of the story, the player plays as him , etc. It wouldn't rely on feelings either but on objective elements. Though I may have missed something.
@pavarottiaardvark3431
@pavarottiaardvark3431 4 жыл бұрын
@@SouvSan But if a word has multiple definitions, it can't be used objectively. Caucasian really means "from the Caucuses Mountains", and even when it means "white", it is open to debate, and the answers have changed over time. Are Italians white? Are Irish people? The answer used to be no. So the question "Does Little Orphan Annie have a white protagonist?", does not have an objective answer because when it was written, the Irish weren't "white". What about Jews? Most European Jews are Ashkenazi, which means they have middle eastern ancestry....what does it mean to call them "Caucasian"? If a Swedish person has one black grandparent, are they Caucasian? What about one great-grandparent? The answer is not objective. I'm REALLY not trying to give you a hard time here, I'm just showing how even something so apparently obvious is subjective. What about "Protagonist"? Well even that is iffy. Who is the Protagonist of "The Princess Bride"? Who is the protagonist of "The Phantom Menace" or of "Fury Road"? I've seen it argued that the protagonist of Infinity War is Thanos, even though little of the narrative takes place from his point of view. You can even apply this to games - the one that gets cited most often is "Bioshock: Infinite", where the story is most definitely "about" someone other than the player character.

@SouvSan
@SouvSan 4 жыл бұрын
@@pavarottiaardvark3431 I don't see how a word having multiple definitions makes it impossible to be used objectively, as long as one clarifies what definition they're using. Going back to the "Caucasian" example, and defining one by "A person with light-colored skin", an Italian could either be Caucasian or not, as the only thing that would classify them as one or not would be said skin color. Same thing no matter the nationality or ancestry, despite how silly it might sound. That definition might however become outdated in one, ten, or a thousand years from now on. Should the case happen, my statement "Deacon is Caucasian" wouldn't be objectively true anymore. However now that I think about it : even with that definition, the case could be made over what classifies as "light-colored" : where do we set the limit to 'how light must said skin be to classify as light-colored', and how ? And going by the definition of 'light-colored', it'd still be "having a >relatively small< amount of coloring agent". I'd be objective by saying that someone has a lighter-colored skin than someone else (either objectively right or wrong), but saying "they have light-colored skin" would rely on a value judgment (light-dark, heavy-light, tall-small) so it'd still fall under subjectivity. ... So scratch my first paragraph except for the multiple definition aspect, because the definition I used of "Caucasian" relies on subjective elements anyway. Regarding the use of the word 'Protagonist', I was gonna argue that the game leaves little doubt as to who would classify as one in comparison to the works you've mentionned, but then again that'd still leave the question open to "how 'main' does a character have to be to become the 'main' one". I think the case could be made that no one else in the game suits that definition as much as Deacon, therefore making him the protagonist 'by default', but I'm not convinced. Btw, thanks for the food for thought, and sorry for the rambly nature of my comment.

Similarly last year Cory Barlog made a joke about TheQuartering to Alanah Pearce on Twitter and he caught wind of that and once again made sure to mention that he had no idea who Cory. This despite Cory having recently directed God of War 2018, a game that won countless Game of the Year awards. I can only imagine the endless stream of videos that he and other right-wing gamerbros on KZbin would be making if some female gamer KZbinr talked about not knowing well known game creators. She'd get harassed for months for not being a "REAL GAMER".

I love how the Quartering wants to equate his opinion with an objective review. I still deal with people who don't like Freddy Got Fingered, The 'Burbs, the Doors' first album, Trout Mask Replica, Steven Universe, Code: Lyoko, Bioshock: Infinite, and Heavy Rain. And I deal with people who'll defend stuff I passionately dislike or don't like as much as the consensus - stuff like the Swans discography, the movie Paprika, and the 2018 movie Green Book. That does not mean I have to make myself the only authority out there when it comes to media criticism. I like things that appeal to me - weirdo murder mystery dramas made by a very crazy and creepy French man who thinks video games are movies, I love those. Bioshock in the sky? I dug it. Joe Dante's also-ran that gets sandwiched between all the Gremlins movies? In my top 20. The Doors' entire discography? I think Jim Morrison was one of the best lyricists we've ever had. But that doesn't mean that I am the authority on David Cage, Ken Levine, Joe Dante, and Doors discourse. As passionately as I will champion for L.A. Woman and Waiting for the Sun as being shining examples of best-of-all-time rock, there will be, for example, podcast hosts that'll make a pithy comment about how the '90s tried to make us really love the Doors by having Robby Krieger turn "Roadhouse Blues" into a beer commercial song with the help of Creed - in essence, making us "think the Doors were good." But so what? I still love that podcast, Break Stuff - one of the best podcasts in the business (about what exactly went wrong at Woodstock '99 and why giving blame only to Fred Durst being a doofus is missing the point), even though the host and I would not agree on whether or not the Doors are good. How he thinks about the Doors is besides the point. But I will not ruin this podcast host's life because he made a pithy comment about how the Doors suck. That opinion's as old as the Doors themselves. As far back as even reviews of their residency at the Whisky a Go Go, there have been people who thought the Doors were all bark and no bite, that Jim was a meaningless writer who strung together random words just to sound poetic, that their music isn't as weird as they want you to think it is, that they're mindless shock-jocks for rock, etc. And guess what? I disagree. But I respect your right to disagree. As long as you're not, you know, trying to threaten every single fan of the Doors off the Internet and making them actually fear for their life with death threats, pizzabombs, doxing, championing for ultra-right-wing causes, and trying to blackball fans out of their jobs, then I will respect your opinion. I cannot respect a movement like Gamergate or Comicsgate or even all the QAnon discourse because I cannot respect people who'll stop at nothing for people to acknowledge that they're the ONLY AUTHORITIES on something, even if it takes terrorism and outing somebody as trans and jeopardizing their own living conditions. And Quartering has aligned himself with all these "concern movements." I dunno about QAnon though. Mr. Quartering, you can disagree with a review, but you don't have to insinuate that the reviewer only hated it because white guy does white guy hero things, something something feminist agenda. I'm sure you really like Days Gone. You'll fight passionately for it. But you're not the lone authority on Days Gone. Just as I am not the lone authority on the Doors. If I can take criticisms of Jim Morrison's lyrics, you can take criticism of the narrative of a post-apoc zombie survival game you moderately like. Grow up, Quartering.

It's so silly that he doesn't see the story relevant to a review when the games have stories and Days Gone is advertised as a narrative game. A lot of people will drop a game when they don't like the story unless it has fun gameplay. Considering he found all of her criticism fair and he hasn't even played it, seems like he's mad at her because he wanted it to be a higher score and that she's a woman. There's these paranoid as shit conspiracy theorists who genuinely believe there's a behind the scenes "sjw" plot to force "wokeness" into videogames, movies and so on. They come from meme websites who since like 2013 have genuinely believed feminists and leftists now want to ruin everything they've ever loved online, it started because of gamergate and people like antita sarkeesian's internet series, they saw it as "feminists are invading our videogames for money and attention" and have been hyper sensitive to it ever since, shining a magnifying glass of "wokeness" onto everything, I know this because I used to go to those spaces when I was younger and they used to just poke fun at other websites and make jokes, I stopped identifying with them and left after they went absolutely batshit insane with this stuff, most annoying thing is some of them would join in because it's "just memes" but they just use jokes as a cover for their horrible opinions, then far right weirdos saw this as a recruitment opportunity to radicalize a bunch of angry nerds and it worked scarily well in a lot of cases, a website I frequented as a kid has turned from a teen hangout into a far right political circlejerk and they even have a handful of nazis there, the weirdest part is a lot of them seem to think "wokeness" is some how going to cause the fall of western civilization, yeah, they're insane. EDIT: Point is, no matter how much they claim to be arguing for reason they are not reasonable people, they're almost like a cult, it's an internet war of ideology to them, they follow the quartering not because they think his opinions are well reasoned, simply because he's on their side, he gives them validation.

@@FifinatorKlon yeah but escapism for one person can include real world politics. It can give something more depth. Their is so much media out their that has real world politics in its DNA. I think the issue many people are having is that their version of politics is being challenged and it makes them uncomfortable. Politics are in all media. I saw a really interesting GDC talk where the speaker was working with Bungie on the original Halo series and was talking about how Bungie initially called the Arbiter the dervish (basically analogizing the Covenant with Muslims and the UNSC with Christians or the west) Bungie to their credit changed the name but you have to wonder how much of the war on terror influenced the story of the Covenant in Halo 2. Not to mention the entire Battlefield and COD franchises etc etc. Hell politics are a huge reason why people played Wolfenstien. The Daily Mirror is read by people who think they run the country; The Guardian is read by people who think they ought to run the country; The Times is read by the people who actually do run the country; the Daily Mail is read by the wives of the people who run the country; the Financial Times is read by people who own the country; the Morning Star is read by people who think the country ought to be run by another country, and the Daily Telegraph is read by people who think it is. @@bishop6881 Lol it was funny as hell in 2018. RD2 was adopted as the alt rights game sadly... They really wanted it to win game of the year. Some of em even braggingly told me I was stupid for thinking it might lose. Even saw some of these incels praising it as game of the year... Despite complaints that it was very slow and boring in many parts. Anyways... God of war 4 won it and they raged while I laughed. Good times lolz.

A few years ago, I found his channel and was on board with his righteous anger at the videogame industry, but one thing stood out to me that made me dodge the bullet that is him and his channel. In every one of the videos I watched of his, he started ranting about perceived slights of imaginary SJWs and liberals that were hurting the industry. And then later I found out he's just generally a douchebag on top of needlessly injecting politics into everything. Edit: I made this comment before getting to the part where he starts ranting about SJWs, but man if that isn't just a great example of what I said.
