World hunger already has a solution. We produce more than enough food to feed everyone on Earth and more. The problem is distribution. Under capitalism, those people are only fed if it is profitable enough. Capitalists would rather destroy their food, or let it go to waste, than feed hungry poor people, in order to protect their profits. The solution is overthrowing capitalism and establishing socialism and a worker's government that fulfills the needs of the working class. Wild that the anti-GMO stance is coming back in 2024. There's something to be said about how companies like Monsanto have a patent on the genetic makeup of certain fruits or vegetables so that they aren't killed by their pesticides, but for the most part GMOs are just a way to limit the amount of pesticides we use, and increase the yield and hardiness of food. A famous example is how tomatoes were modified to include cold-resistant genes isolated from fish. GMOs are a good thing!
@emmao65784 ай бұрын
Yeah my main issue with GMOs is as you said the patenting which often comes with ridiculous rules about not being able to reuse the seeds from your crops so you have to buy everything from scratch each year and other greedy things. There are also legitimate and serious concerns about their effect on biodiversity, their resistance spreading to wild plants or if pests adapt to the resistance becoming stronger like with antibiotics and "superbugs" which I think is already happening. It's pretty annoying that the legitimate worries are so often drowned out by the "cHeMiCaL bAd" people making it easier for these companies to brush all concerns off and not address any of it.

GMO FOODS ARE NUTRITIOUS AND SAFE AS ANY OTHER. Some are even more nutritious because of their modification. It’s sad because GMOs are a sustainable and inexpensive way to produce food. It also has the potential to reduce the amount of pesticides and deforestation we have to engage in to raise livestock and grow produce. In fact, GMOs could make it possible to grow all our meat artificially, instead of killing and harvesting it from animals, without lowering taste or nutrition quality. The narrative that GMO is bad for you is pure capitalism. The companies that have invested in buying up land to grow and raise food traditionally don’t want to give up the chokehold they have on the market. Nor do they want to lose the farmers that they beat into financial submission to companies willing to hire and train them to embrace these new means of food production, and pay them a fair income for doing so! I want my meat grown in a lab so I can have a steak without killing a cow. 😔😭🐮

Seeing people not know how the PLU codes work is melting my brain. So a little education on that: seeing the number "4" at the front of the PLU code means jack. All it means is that it was randomly assigned the code in the 4000s instead of the 3000s or the 84000s. The "9" in front *does* mean organic, though! So for example, those seedless green grapes have a PLU code of 4022. A slightly different variation could be 4724, 4498, or 3093. This will be the case regardless of if they're gmo or not or what company produced them. If it were organic, it would be like 94498. Oh my god. Idk why this is what gets me.

I love that these people don’t even consider STORAGE CONDITIONS of the food before they buy it. Many fruits/veggies turn “rubbery” when stored too cold/frozen. Frozen water (within a plant/animal cell) eviscerates the cell-walls of almost everything alive, leading to structural decay and the “bendy” features they are talking about. Was our US public school system actually that bad?

Do they not understand we have chemicals that alter the speed of ripening? A bad fruit hit with something that keeps it from ripening for a year is bound to taste terrible.

"Have yall ever seen an orange like this?" Yes. It's called a blood orange. You need to realize there are all kinds of foods you don't see every day or in the country you live at all. Like, i've got a bunch of random, mostly useless knowledge in my head, but that's because i like learning things rather than sitting on my ass watching tv

I love how we as Americans blame corporations and the government for litterally everything, except for the stuff that they actually do Also, the joke in that Simpsons episode was that the family was so used to eating hyper processed foods that when they ate actual food they got sick. They didn't even watch the clip.

The whale thing is crazy because yes, sonar does cause confusion in whales and has on several occasions caused whales to hurt themselves in a panic, surface too fast and experienced decompression sickness, or straight up beach themselves. The US military has publicly said that they directly caused the deaths of at least 6 whales through their use of sonar. This is one of the rare cases where the conspiracy theory is a 100% confirmed fact, but the conspiracy theorists never seem to do anything other than repeat it in their litany of fearmongering. You'll never see them protesting, calling for reduced use of sonar, asking for accountability for any of the dozens of ways in which the US military is destroying the environment.

I'm guessing the 'magnetic chicken' is just a security tag that is either under the label or on the tray under the chicken, somewhere? Some sort of theft prevention measures. Used to catch me out when I worked self checkout, as I was always looking for the obvious tags on booze and such that set the little gates off...
@Take_Your_Time_4 ай бұрын
Nah it's even dumber. The chicken pack is sticky so the magnet doesn't slip off of the one spot they put it on. Must be fake chicken.

You remember that magic trick you learn at 4 years old where you put a magnet under a table, and move something that's on top, and you go "OoOoOo MaGiC!!"? It's that.

Meat packages, especially ones like that, tend to be damp and the plastic wrap around them gets somewhat sticky, for lack of a better word. They'll stick to a lot of things. She could also have a magnet on the other side if she's just fully being disingenuous but it could also just be staying there due to friction
