I get why they would post them, but I wouldn’t want to be in the audience watching that happen all the time. Like a short audience interaction per show I could deal with, but the whole show shouldn’t be that. But once you encourage it and reply to it, more people will do it. The best choice for the show would be to not interact with a heckler at all, but then they wouldn’t get clips.

Lenny Bruce was arrested numerous times for his jokes and endured constant legal harassment until he finally died via overdose...and the cops stripped him naked and posed his body before allowing the press in to take pictures. Carlin was arrested for his "seven words you can't say on TV" bit. Receiving audience/public criticism or losing a TV spot and acting crucified is cringe as hell because in both of those cases, it's just other people exercising their free speech that the comedians argue is so important.

I particularly liked that video (saw it forever on YT) because, yeah, it wasn't meant to be funny. Like tbh, I wish men didn't *have* to speak up on behalf of women to get other men to listen, but this interaction was genuinely satisfying to see. Jimmy Carr is a very mainstream character in the UK, known for his deadpan one liners, and how he roasts hecklers in very non-politically-correct ways. And his laugh and looks _obviously_ , of which he his very self-aware: he defied standards and made it his bizarre and distinctive brand...which, in turn, has made him a TON of money. I don't like his comedy, but I do respect him as a comedian. On the opposite side, I love *Dara Ó Briain* , an irish comedian who is _brilliant_ at interacting with the audience in a *positive* and uplifting way, rather than "punching down", like most others do. Another thing I will mention in that regard is that Brits really respond to that kind of stuff differently than we do here in the US in my experience. Regarding Harland Williams specifically, I feel like it was incredibly low hanging fruit that Ethan was comparing him to the "weird substitute teacher" when that has essentially been his screen and stage persona for about 30 years. People who don’t pay their taxes are like friends that go out to dinner and then when everyone throws in money to cover their part of the bill and then the last person counts it and it’s 30$ short and everyone swears they put in what they owed.
