I remember back in the mid to late 2000s, a bad day at the flea market was when you would only run into Game Gears and PS1s. Nobody wanted Game Gears even for $5-10. They always had issues with the screen, speakers, or not working at all. So it's kind of funny seeing them now on Marketplace or thrift stores for $50-100.

There are plenty of fake gamers out there. These are the folks who flaunt their cash as if they’re high rollers while looking down on others for being broke. A classic case is the pay-to-win model, where you’re basically encouraging companies to charge for stuff that should be free. This only fuels their greed, leading to a gaming landscape where everything feels like a constant online cash grab. It also creates a divide between those who want to enjoy games fairly and those who just throw money at them to get ahead.

I have played games without online modes (PS1, PS2, most recently PS3) that included multiplayer. Depending on the game. Wrestling, COD, DBZ games, Tekken, soul caliber, etc games will always be multiplayer. Can't escape it. I just enjoy games. Especially when I'm able to play it with my brothers or friends. So, I don't know. I guess I'm a fake gamer of some sort. 😂 It is what it is. I like single player games and multiplayer games. I don't see what the big deal is with multiplayer games. If I play resident evil, I'm expecting a one player game. Same with GTA and Castlevania to name a couple. To hate multiplayer games just seems a bit off to me. Multiplayer games have been made since the beginning with pong. If you know the history of that then you're an OG. Old school gamer. Eh. I have to disagree with your take honestly. Doesn't make much sense.

Fake gamers are the ones who dont understand that the Farcry Series evolved into a system of balanced multiplayer and singleplayer gameplay that couldn't properly exist without one or the other then ubisoft shit all over their fanbase by de evolving everything they built. that is the only time i will say multiplayer is important. yes the first farcry game did not have multiplayer until mods came around but once it was there it became the glue to the series. now ubisoft is trying to stick the pages together but they are all over the floor. multiplayer only games are a bad place to set your IP in though. Many people i see on reddit and in the ubi forums have asked for either an online only or offline only facry game but both take away from what the series became before the last game. i dont count primal and blood dragon because those are more of DLCs set as standalone games.

I love all the Sonic games for it to this day, but also highly recommend Shinobi 2: The Silent Fury as well as Defenders of Oasis (turn based RPG). You’ll need a ROM for an English patch but Sylvan Tale is a remarkable action RPG. There are some fake English cartridges on EBay though. All three of these are GG exclusives and very worth your time in 2024.

There should not be any gatekeeping in anything. Especially if you enjoy something. So for me it depends on what the individual thinks. But gatekeeping is wrong. No one should judge someone else. For me I enjoy video games but I don't think I play them enough to call myself a real gamer but I'm working on that. You know stuff happens and you don't always have time to do what you enjoy. But I'm going to work on making more time for video games. I'm also not very good at video games and I need to work on getting better at that too. So that's my New years resolution. But there shouldn't be any gatekeeping in anything. So I don't like the question. What makes a real gamer or a fake gamer. Anyway I always enjoy your videos. I think this is the first time I've commented on one. But I hope everyone has a happy holiday season and a great 2025.

the only time gatekeeping should be done is when some random company buys an existing IP and starts rewriting canon until the IP is no longer recognizable and the majority fanbase keeps telling the new company that what they are doing is unguided. This is why i wont jump down the throats to the Rings of Power and Halo tv series writers. they arent trying to rewrite official canon unlike disney and the idiots who did the resident evil series on netflix. While i dont personally like Rings of Power or the Halo series i respect that they kept their stories in an alternate adaptation.

"Real" anything refers to deep knowledge and understanding of a subject. A lot of collectors get offended by the term of not being a real gamer, because they are into the hobby for shiny purposes. They play a game for a few levels and that's it. On to the next. It's the same thing when you say someone is a Hip Hop head, a movie buff, or a Sneakerhead. Just because you know the words to "popular" songs and you 'like' rap doesn't make you a hip-hop head. If all you watch is action movies or rom-coms that doesn't make you a movie buff. Or you buy a couple of kicks or yearly releases of Lebrons doesn't make you a sneakerhead. That's why when the Wii, Facebook Games like Candy Crush, and Mobile games like Angry Bird came in they ushered into the light 'Casual' gamers. People who enjoy games but don't actually get into them. The opposite end is what became known as Hardcore gamers, and they didn't like being labeled that either. Just because someone plays certain games or has games doesn't make them "Real" in that context. Context matters most. Real recognize Real.

@@hermes_job_observer144 you might be a bit to literal on the take. The context matters when someone is saying ‘Real Gamer’. Because if you played a game you are technically a gamer. It goes beyond that to the lifestyle.
@hermes_job_observer1442 күн бұрын
@warfidem3 that's why I included "...and continues to play them because they enjoy them..." This means It is a part of your "lifestyle" however big or small with no need for further delineation. Also, if you quit playing and choose to not play anymore, for whatever reason, then you're either no longer a gamer or used to be a gamer. It is meant to be technical instead of subjective. However you choose to judge different levels or divide gamer types is the subjective side of it that is separate from the more basic analysis of being merely being a "gamer."

I think it's isn't that simple to label someone as a fake gamer. If you play video games you are by definition a gamer. Doesn't matter if you put hundreds of hours into JRPG's or play FPS games every now and then. In my opinion someone is fake, if they pretend to know shit about certain games, which they never even played. They may heard of it or maybe watched some videos of certain games. A good example would be the recent announcements of the Onimusha and Ōkami sequels. I bet most of the people who were hyped about those two announcements didn't even play the old ones. They just hyped it up, because clout chasing is a drug. The social media aspect probably plays a big role in pretending to like something that you never played/watched, because that'll make people who actually like the stuff connect with you. Also it's not just gaming. The anime/manga community was also hit by a big wave of 'pretenders' over the last decade.
