An unwelcome distraction to have to attend to when I’m working on the next video - but sadly necessary. Please be on guard against deception and manipulation from online impersonation.
Any genuine links to other platforms will be authenticated by me through this KZbin channel.

It looks like the fake account has now been deleted. Cheers to everyone who reported this violation to Twitter - much appreciated! This has been an irksome diversion from work, but it's maybe just as well to spell out clearly how to sift the fake from the authentic.

Yeah they are censoring specific people for probably their own gains. Theramin, I think is a cool instrument, an theramin tree might be a tree where the branches are anteenas on the instrument. The sound at the start of the videos might be the wind blowing in this tree. Idk. But i recomend having a look at the instrument. It's earlyer name, etherphone, seem to me to speek to superstision. Again, idk. I just spent som min googleing and thinking. But i like the thought.

Hello TheraminTrees, sorry for diverging from the video topic but I have to thank you for your videos on the whole. They have begun a period of self reflection for me that was severely overdue. My father had some terrible ways of raising children and I thought I had escaped that influence. Hearing how manipulators, abusers and narccists operate however has made me question whether I fully have. I fear that I may have been interacting destructively with the person I care for most in the world and I do not wish to cause them undue harm. I’ve been trying to be more aware of how I speak and what my words might mean or how they relate to what I’ve said previously. Again, thank you for your videos. I may have inadvertently harming someone I care about and I am reflecting on that.

I can think of potential uses. Some people mention seeing it happen to others recently; which means it's not about one KZbinr in particular. If you were to set up fake accounts impersonating a large number of small-to-mid-sized KZbinrs like this, you could potentially get a lot through unnoticed; and then you have a ready-made audience for a political influence campaign. I wouldn't be surprised if all of these fake accounts started talking up the same presidential candidate as the election approaches, or cooperated to criticize trade policy with China. We've already seen this sort of influence campaign using fake social media accounts of random nobodies; if you could pull it off with the names of some small-time influencers it would be even more effective.

I dare say online impersonation comes from a variety of motivations. Deliberate maliciousness is certainly one, as is a grab for attention. I suspect in some cases it stems from a misguided attempt to form some sense of bond with the person being impersonated - obviously for the recipient it achieves the reverse. Twitter seems particularly susceptible to this kind of violation, being voiceless and faceless.

Protip: Make a profile on most major social networks, get it verified, then tell people you don't use this account so they're not confused when they follow you and you post 0 times. That will make it easier when fake profiles pop up, because you can point to your real profile when you're alerting administrators to the fakes, and they won't need as much added confirmation before removing the fakes.

This reminds me of this one character from anime called Psycho Pass. A person had followed these anonymous online personas very carefully and grown very fond of them. When these online celebrities acted out of the usual character, this person would murder them and assume their online identity. They would accurately mimic the persona and continue releasing content that people have come to expect from this persona and it seemed like nothing had happened behind the scenes. It was all fiction I am sure. Right?

This is what the verified icon should have been for from the beginning. Anybody who reports an confirmed impersonation account should get the verified check mark. No political garbage like that company has done. Maybe they could've even used that horrible AI to actually shut down impersonation accounts until in-person review for cases like this, where you don't intend to make an account. Oh, well. Yikes. Well, maybe this could be the subject of another video. Why would somebody do this? Were they trying to defame you, or were they a weird fan thinking they were somehow worthy enough to speak for you? Maybe they thought your name would add more weight to things they said? Identity theft is so alien to me. Not the stealing part, like illegally using someone else's account to buy things for yourself, THAT I understand. But that's not the only reason people impersonate others, right?
