MN Irwin right. I mean it could’ve been real but the author could have gone insane. By that I mean illogical and making things out of what isn’t there. Like she said Nate’s father was blackmailing her into taking her shirt off?... Wait.. How would Nate’s dad know the bruise was on her collarbone? She just assumed there was a perversion there that wasn’t. If I were a father like Nate’s dad I’d be pissed too if my son said someone hurt him.

@@karlakirkpatrick8927 then I wouldn't consider that that is a true church. Just like the one in this story, I don't see how the parents can be so unaware. A parent of all people should be able to pick up on when something is bothering their child.

I agree, what those people did to the girl's self confidence and mental well being is unforgivable. I hope she has talked to a professional about her ordeal and has become a stronger woman who doesn't put up with other's BS! It sounds like she turned out okay though. People don't realize how their own actions can scar a child for life. We all feel terrible when a child is physically and/or sexually abused by adults, but mental abuse can be just as bad. I hope Karma comes back to Mary, her husband and Michael's father someday!

The Story with "Mary" story really hits me on a personal level because I experienced something like that-although not as extreme. I had someone (adult) looking after me as a kid who always liked to make up stories or take things out of context. It really hurt being called a liar as kid. I suppose it could be called "gaslighting". I feel a bit of comfort knowing that I am not the only one, but at the same time disgusted that there are so many ADULTS that pull crap like this.

My brother would lie about me for 6 years. Until I turned 13 and moved with my bio dad. He would fall down the stairs (I was around 10 and he was 2 or 3 and my room was in the basement) he told my parents I pushed him down the stairs. He'd do this every time anything happened to him. They started calling me a "compulsive liar" and sent me to professional counseling. When I was an adult and my brother in his early 20s, we were all sitting around a camp fire, talking about the old days (always a sore subject for me) my brother says laughing "Remember when I'd fall down the stairs and say you pushed me, or when I was playing with a lighter and I told Dad you burned me?!" I just looked at my mother, we locked eyes. "Told you!" I said. Nobody ever apologized. And when I fish for one I'm met with "thats in the past. Can't we move on?" No. Even though I'm now 34 I still get mad when childhood things get brought up or if ANYONE calls me a liar.

All Christians are not that way. A true Christian stays in God's word, studies it, and does what He says ('do not gossip', 'do not bear false witness'). Don't let the hypocrites keep you from knowing a loving Savior. A church like that should be avoided by the plague. They sound like a 'dead' church, and will be dealt with in the end.

The vast majority of "Christians" are not real Christians. In the Bible it says in the Revelation that as the world approaches its End, laymen will live like demons and Monks/Nuns will live like laymen and that there will be big beautiful churches built that will not have the Holy Spirit in them. I'm an Orthodox Christian and I go to church and while there's never been any sort of social problems at our church or people being unfairly shunned, there are certain heresies that get spread. Half the people there are Evolutionists, which I don't have a problem with Evolutionists but you can't really call yourself a Christian if you don't believe that God created the world, there's also dogmatic problems when it comes to the church almost encouraging people to break the fasts, which breaks several canonical rules.

Reacting to Story 4: Geez!! Why did they hate this girl so fucking much?! I dealt with something a little similar, except I actually did something. When I was a boy, I used to go to church classes. I saw a lot of holes and hypocrisy in organized religion even back then and the other kids would bully me for asking the instructors "too many questions." Instructors would see this and encourage them, thinking I was "Mocking God" or something. One day, I had to go to the bathroom, but we were supposed to meet up in a group or maybe someone was holding up the bathroom, (I was like 5 or 6, so I don't remember too well.), either way, I got angry, and so some of my classmates took it upon themselves to punish me. They threw me to the floor, a few kids kicked me, and the oldest kid there started dragging me to an instructor like I was some kind of wild animal. "Let me go!", I yelled. "You're acting like an animal! So I'm gonna treat you like one!", She replied. So I bit her fingers. As a little boy, I had already grown in a few canine teeth, so I left a serious mark when I chomped down. The instructors who saw the whole ordeal, (the room wasn't that big), ignored everything they had saw beforehand, like me getting thrown and kicked, and decided to yell at me for harming a girl...who was like 12 and twice my size. I explained to my mother about how I was treated there. She was the ONLY family member who believed I wouldn't have bitten that girl unprovoked, and so I didn't have to go back. But yeah story 4, just reminded me of that time.

The girl in story 4 was told that church was safe. Church is Supposed to be safe, but we all know it's not true. If my kid told me that some person had basically just creeped on me, I'd have taken my kids side, plus I'd have told the others what she'd tried to do before Mary lied to them. This story is a great argument not to go to church/schools like this. And Nate was a liar. I'd have left that POS Church!

Raven Fox HUMANS aren’t safe, narcissist bullies are everywhere and in every group of people there may be people desperate to be King Pins and Queen Bees. I went to Jewish school in a predominantly Jewish community - this was all done to me as well. I also know some of the rest I could not see as a kid. 1. You have differences (class, race, etc) and, 2. Believing crap about you being different = evil is a HUMAN trait and makes the “community” feel better about themselves and how they live their life by rejecting it, 3. Jealousy also played a big part. I do not hate Jewish people, I enjoy their culture, but that is the group of people who did this to me. AND my sister.

You see this sort of crap online, practiced even by atheists. MRA dudes too. Even so-called Social Justice Warriors will do it (while preaching compassion at the same time). It’s just a human thing/flaw, it’s a way to try shove down all your own insecurity by picking on someone whose vulnerable and can’t or won’t fight back. Triangulation (isolation) is part of that process. Psychologically it is all very interesting.

That whole story of the kid, Mary, and the congregation hits hard to home. As a child I was constantly blamed for EVERYTHING by literally EVERYONE. My family, my "friends", the people I knew especially at the church I used to attend as a kid. It's fucking ridiculous how one person can be blamed for something they didn't even have the pleasure of doing. It's very ironic how adults act like immature little toddlers and get offended when someone gives them a taste of their own medicine.

Story 4 could have been avoided if people just talk to people, she should have pushed pass the pervy dad, and shown her bruise to the mother, and explain what happened. Even If Mary and her husband weren't in the equation. The mother of the boy could have talked to her mother as well when she came to pick her up, as she had her own doubts about the situation.

I do agree, in a way, but there is also this fact. she has been ridiculed and called a liar for years. enough emotional abuse can cause a person to believe their helpless, even if they don't openly say it, it could also be imbedded in her that she couldn't do that because no matter where she is, no one would believe her. she was even panicking a bit, and probably not thinking straight.

The more I think about Mary’s story, the more it sounds cultish or Scientology, and like they were looking for a new victim/target - and perhaps bc she did not have a father, and was female, they decided she was vulnerable. And perhaps her mother was poor and that was why she was so reliant on the church for daycare and such, in spite of some really creepy and poor treatment: starvation tactics, mild torture, deliberately separating adults from kids so adults can be completely sure they say things out of earshot - blind devotion to their own POV and expecting total submission by kids.

The story about the kid lying that he was hit reminds me of when I was little and me and a friend were playing on a swing set in the garden then his little sister then comes out looks at me then for no reason runs off screaming in tears to her mum saying I had kicked her in the face. Lucky her brother stood up for me cuz the mother looked well pissed. Also met countless witches like Mary.

I’m disappointed in the mother in stry 4. My mother would never have taken an adults side over mine or any of her children. Sadly tho Mary is typical church folk; I’ve met a lot of her in all my years of church till my mom accepted my refusal to go to that church. Why the mother continued to make her child go to that church to be under ppl like that baffles me completely tho..It’s sad...

The story about the girl and the church lady named Mary made me sad. I had some pretty bad experiences with my church growing up. I was bullied by the other kids bc I was homeschooled, the youth leader and his wife were especially horrible. When they found out I was adopted... They told me "my mother should have faced up to her "mistake" and raised me". Except my mother wasn't an unwed mother... Was extremely negligent and my father her husband... Was a pervert who liked little girls. They knew nothing of my circumstances. They didn't know that when I was removed I had lice, scabies (body lice that burrows under the skin) and a swollen and distended belly from parasites and malnutrition.. Yes this still happens in the USA. I have very mixed emotions toward church now that I am grown. My heart goes out to that girl in the story, bc that was also my reality during my growing up years. I still have serious issues with being around people, and my self confidence is zero. I attribute my severely abusive relationships to the strict belief that a woman should be submissive wholey to their mate and that he has the right to do whatever he wants to his wife. It took YEARS to realize that no one has the right to hurt a woman or anyone for that matter. I don't blame God for what I went through though, I blame narcissistic people who thought that they knew what God wanted and what God felt. I hope that this young woman has fared better than I have. Much love to her! 😘
