been there done that - flew over from US - actually had an apple I got at US airport food court - stuck it in my bag, forgot all about the apple and walked off the plane making my way to bags and customs in NZ - they had signs all over the place, and bins to toss anything into before going to customs.. that's when I remembered the apple and tossed it before entering customs. thank God! would've hated to end up with a fine like that!

I would be livid if I unknowingly brought something so simple as an apple into a country that didn’t allow it and then got fined $400 for it.

In Australia, you can't bring fruit or vegetables and honey if you are going to Perth. Even from within other parts of Australia. We flew to Perth from Adelaide and they confiscated our honey we purchased in Adelaide. Luckily, we weren't fined. As tourist, we had no idea it was a problem. We know now.

New Zealand has an isolated and unique ecosystem. Because of that, they are super protective over foreign flora & fauna, as it could have major environmental consequences. To be safe, just don't bring any food.

I've seen plenty of people arrested in person and the only time they needed medical assistance is if they were fighting the cops. People who did what they were told weren't handled rough or talked down to. It's all about how the person being arrested is behaving.

I've been pulled over traveling in the State's a few times. Pull over comply to their demands tell the truth and be respectful . Never had an issue. Cop's in the State's have a very dangerous job everyon has there has easy access to firearms. Don't escalate or you may find yourself in a lethal situation. Situational awareness is important everywhere you find yourself.

I've had a biosecurity dog pick out my backpack on arrival home to Auckland. No fruit but had previously had an apple in the bag. The dog picked up the remaining scent. Those dogs are very highly trained and not all who go for training make the cut.

@@KoalaPlus If a crime is punished by a fine, then it is only a law for poor and middle-class people. There are many rich, carefree human beings out there, especially those who have gotten rich due to their heritage and not hard work. 400 NZ$ is nothing for them. Also, some airlines give fruit to their passengers; you can see it in one of their (Caught in Action) videos. So when they arrive in New Zealand, they instantly get fined, not for their own mistakes.
@beccalieurance32165 ай бұрын
fruit flies also breed on mops/ cleaning rags and any type of trash holding containers, the only necessary component is any type of moist or fermenting material which is found in places far beyond fruits. While Auckland may be strict and outlandish, a passenger bringing a piece of fruit is not indicative or a testimony to any behavior in pursuit of what would be called “careless” by you. Do you still blame passengers when airlines provide this “contraband”? If you think it’s reasonable to charge people a $400 fine for a fruit, a fruit that more than likely could have been provide by an airline company, I just pray for you. You deserve love 🫶 Ephesians 6:10-18 Stay strong bro
