Hey quick fishing question for you. I’ve been watching your complete guides to bass fishing videos. I live in Florida and the water is super hot. Should I always expect the seasonal transitions to be late in fall and winter and then early in spring and summer because of the hot water? Love your videos btw, super informative.

A lot of the areas I mentioned in the video will have baitfish. If you get into those areas you will see balls of bait on your graph. If you don’t have a graph, look for baitfish activity on the surface

I would assume that its not just the bass that are dealing with the depleted oxygen and the other fish (although some fish could definitely be more tolerant of lower o2 levels) are doing the same thing and heading to higher o2 and warmer waters.

Thanks for the terrific explanation. I have been out the last 4 days on a lake/river and have had phenomenal success with numbers and size of lm bass. The surface temp was 53 to 55 and the lake has not yet turned over. We are now in a cold front with lows of 32 to 35 degrees and i was wondering what to expect and your video perfectly explains why I begin catching some numbers in the main river channel. Yea northern water and Florida water is set up a little differently than a lot of reservoirs, what is your best pattern in the northern country for Fall?

BassFishingHQ on some of the lakes when I’m targeting largemouth I find a lot of fish relating to shoreline cover (wood/rock) it tends to hold a little more heat with the water temps start to drop. Bait is always around them. So the bass can ambush really easily. And then the grass deal that you talked about it another great spot for bait and bass.

I find bass while trout fishing but im about to start targeting bass alone cuz they are huge and fight hard! ive caught alot of small ones but my best are 2 bigs one at 3.2lbs 17inch and one 6.5lbs at 21.5 inch. And a smallie at 4lbs and i didnt measure cuz i wanted to get it back to the water

Where I live in California there's a local reservoir that I fish at that has a channel running into a cove. Iv been able to catch a lot of bluegill and crappy but can't seem to get a bite on bass. Iv used texas rigs, and swimbaits but know bites. I would say at it deepest spot is maybe 8 ft. Any advice would be much appreciated

Really informative. Usually I would not fish the fall but this the first year I started to do so. It’s been experimental and a learning curve for me but fun. I’ve been seeing the bass as you describe in the video so locating them I think I got down but catching them is 50/50. What lures do you recommend? I’ve caught small bass my going ultra finesse and after almost irritating them I got them to react and bite. However, that does work with the bigger bass that small finesse is prob not work it for them so then I did try a crank bait and chatter bait but did not work. The crank bait did get a strike once but nothing after that.

Sometimes during that fall transition fish can be extremely tricky, which I imagine is the situation you have been fishing. As fall continues and the water starts to get colder reaction baits, like square bill crankbaits and lipless crankbaits can be a really good way to catch bass in those areas. Also a jig works really well

Great video!! Super informative! I live in Massachusetts and the vast majority of our waters are not dammed up areas like Dale Hollow alot of our waters are natural lakes with small coves and what not. Other than this issue of not having arms that go waaaay back to trap bait how would you approach a natural lake other than the guts and cuts you described earlier. Would you pick smaller coves or does the size of the cove not matter. And what kind of topography wouldn't want to look for.

If your river has some of the same structure and cover elements like grass, then yes it will. However, most rivers are all about current. If you can find the right current eddies that have bait, then you will catch a lot of fish. Probably the best lure to use in that scenario is a square bill crankbait

Great Video and lots of good info, however I dont think the thermocline is the area with the best oxygen. Thermocline is the area where the oxygen begins to deplete which means oxygen begins to lack, however, above the thermocline is where the best and most oxygen is at and it basically determines the deepest you can fish for bass during summer hot days. I might be scientifically wrong, but I had the best success using my theory.

I fish at two spring-fed “kettle” ponds here in the Boston area. There are no inlets or outlets-that is, no creeks or rivers to follow (even if I had a boat). Where do the baitfish go during the fall transition? I’ve seen no evidence of them for at least two weeks. Also, no bass. No hard structure that I can find. LOTS of grass, but nothing seems to entice bass if they are there. I’ve tried chatter bait, Carolina rig, drop shot, bobber rig. Those catching the recently stocked trout use Powerbait with slip weight and long lesser. They say the trout are deep but they aren’t biting for me. I’d be happy for any action at all. I fish from dawn to noon. Any tips?
