This was the first time I've watched your KZbin channel. I enjoyed it very much. I grew up in Caldwell county and have lived in several states. I'm now in central Georgia pastoring a church. Thanks again. God Bless.

That's a beautiful drive up there. I wish it was closer to my house. I appreciate the videos you have done from the observation tower. I am physically unable to make that climb. I can enjoy it though you. I'm good with the name change because it honors the Native Americans. I can't discuss my feelings about some other name changes without using a little sailor language. And I know you don't allow that.😀
@NCMemoryMakers3 ай бұрын
@@keitheverhart9556 Yes, we fully agree with you. And thank you for being respectful of that. There are a lot of issues that we get emotional about, as well. We love going up to the tower, even though it's a tough walk. The reason we didn't this trip, is because the temperature was borderline too warm in the vehicle for our dogs. It was very cool outside, but the sun was heating it up on the inside.
@pamadams71323 ай бұрын
Gorgeously clear day! Way we always have tried to do it when went up. Man can you see forever. We like to make the climb worth it . I usually hit every other bench & consider self in good walking shape too😅 . It's steep but one of the nearest places in Smokies!
@NCMemoryMakers3 ай бұрын
Yes, we absolutely love the views from the top on a clear day. The only reason we didn't walk up to the tower, is because we had our 2 little Yorkies with us, and we didn't feel good about leaving them in the vehicle that long. The sun was coming in pretty bright, and it was warming up. It wasn't really hot, but the inside of the vehicle was pretty stuffy. The actual outside temperature, was in the 50s. We wanted to be safe in regards to their well-being.

@@NCMemoryMakers oh yeah I have a certain temp I don't go past for our pups too. I think they like winter the best so they can go more 😀
@NCMemoryMakers3 ай бұрын
@pamadams7132 Yes, we've left them in the vehicle before, when we walk up there, say in November, and it's cold. They do just fine then. But I'm estimating it was probably 80ish inside the vehicle. Not enough to endanger their lives, but certainly enough to make them uncomfortable.

I love it in the mountains. I hope the Parkway isn’t damaged too bad. Have fun

The Blue Ridge Parkway, unfortunately, has severe damage in several places. It is closed indefinitely, in the State of NC.

Beautiful where you huys are at. I love North Carolina. Where were you born and raised. My momma was born and raised in Marion NC just a little town if you drive around the block that's about the end of it.they pull the streets in about 8pm. I love it there last time we were there we went to Grandfather mountain and all the waterfalls we could find. Spent a lot of my childhood in different parts of the Carolinas close to Marion some of my best memories. I remember getting up really early with my aunt Ginney and going out with her to pull potatoes, get fresh eggs to make a big breakfast with homage sausage gravy potatoes fresh made biscuits and gravy. My daddy was 100% Italian and was very picky about eating at anywhere but home but when we were there he ate like a king especially fried chicken. My mama had to learn from my Nonna how to cook Italian food which she learned to cook very well all Italian food from scratch no frozen stuff these were the best days of my life love you guys be safe during this coming storm

I was raised about 45 minutes from Marion, in Granite Falls. I was born in Hickory. My wife was born in Minnesota, but has lived down here since she was about 5. Thank you for sharing your wonderful memories of growing up with your family in and around Marion.

We do not know about Cataloochee, as they have not reopened the road into there. As of today, it is still closed.

I live in Rowan County. With all the road closers what route did you take from your home.Hwy 40W is closed.
@NCMemoryMakers3 ай бұрын
Interstate 40 West is not closed until you get to Exit 20. It is open to that point. We got on Interstate 40 in Burke County, and took it all the way to Exit 27, which is the exit for Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

We watched the video from 10/5. Your trip from Cherokee to Kuwohi. Is that highway #441 and is it clear all the way to Gatlinburg?. Trying to figure out the best way to get to Pigeon Forge from Aiken. SC.
@NCMemoryMakers3 ай бұрын
We did not go into Gatlinburg, but yes, the road is currently open during the day only. They are having to close it at night, because of commercial trucks and tractor and trailers using it to cross the Park. A good number to call for Smokies road information, is 865-436-1200. Once the voice menu picks up, press "1". After that, press "1" again, and that will tell you the road openings and closures. But if it is open on one end of the Park, it will be open all the way across. I have never seen it only be open halfway up.
