In the 1st movie, Hiccup is 15 years old. By the 2nd movie, Hiccup is 20 years old. Between the 1st and 2nd movie, there's a TV series called Dragons: Riders of Berk, Dragons: Defenders of Berk and Dragons: Race to the edge (Season 3-8 pretty much) that fills up the gaps and details. Hiccup is quite the creative inventor when it comes to his own weapons and other stuff.

I saw a super interesting analysis of disability within the Dragons franchise, and how it's actually done *right*. The community cares for their own, and disabilities are not seen as life-ending tragedies, they're just part of the every day. People mention their prosthetics needing repair, the fact there's certain things they can or can't do, and the mobility aids are mentioned only when relevant ! The mother didn't freak out when she saw Hiccup lost a leg in the 20y since she last saw him, because he's evidently doing just fine. Disability is actually at the heart of this movie, because Drogo's loss of an arm turned him into the violent abuser he is, and I hope I'll find this analysis video again because it was great !

My favorite scenes of this movie...it's a tie between Eret Son Of Eret's Forbidden Friendship scene with Stormfly, and the funeral scene, and one of the reasons I love the funeral scene is Eret, Son Of Eret shot an arrow with the others, respecting a chief that was never his. I just love Eret, Son Of Eret so much!!! EDIT: It wasn't Eret that blabbed about Hiccup, it was actually Astrid. Eret was trying to save Hiccup's life, and trying to stop Astrid from blabbing...but, stubborn girl Astrid is, she didn't listen to Eret, and Eret ended up saving Astrid and the gang from drowning. Just thought I'd let you know! Again, I love Eret, Son Of Eret, so, if I can stand up for him, if need be, I will! :) Also, about Drago's scream, Djimon Honsou (the voice of Drago) did that as a vocal exercise, and I think it was Dean DeBlois (the director) liked it so much, they decided to keep it in the film! :) And I have to say the second one is definitely my favorite...mostly because of Eret, Son Of Eret....and John Powell's powerful score!

Answering some questions/comments you made: - Hiccup and Astrid haven't been dating since the first movie, but they have been together - and, consequently, betrothed - for the past couple of years. - "Yo, Toothless kinda getting bad vibes from him?!" Nah, it's more respect, and a little bit of intimidation being in the presence of such a large and influential dragon. - There are several short movies and some tv shows in this universe as well. I recommend at least watching the short movie "Gift of the Night Fury" before the 3rd movie (if you haven't already seen it lol). The events of GOTNF are briefly brought up, probably halfway through the movie.

Take place between the first movie and Riders. - Dawn of the Dragon Racers - takes place just before Race to the Edge - Dragons: Homecoming - without spoiling too much, there's a sort of epilogue in the 3rd movie; Homecoming takes place between the main part of the movie and the epilogue.

I think my two favorite scenes/moments of this movie are (1) the burning ship and (2) Toothless berating the dark alpha, in no particular order; both scenes/moments just really hit hard for me, equally so. The melancholic, understated tone of the burning ship, the complete seriousness mixed with deep sorrow of Gobber's incredible rites-reading (?), and that just... heart-touching soundtrack; that scene always gets me crying no matter how many times I see it. And then, after the alpha cries out in startled pain at having actually been hurt (the severed tusk), I just love how Toothless doesn't even flinch or hesitate to immediately slam his foot down (metaphorically) and put the dark alpha in his newly demoted place, how his screaming screeches sound so familiar and yet alien all at once, and how definitive Toothless's berating feels when we just hear and see that angry, worked-up exhale of all the breath he has left before he begins panting, as if he'd just made the final point of the drawn-out argument. That sense of "And I won't put up with even ONE more word out of you!" just feels so real, in this battle of authority posed only through body language and primitive noises. They did such an incredible job with it.

I once was so obsessed with the first HTTYD movie that I watched it 16 times in a month. It was kind of a ritual for me. Everyday, around 4 p.m., I watched HTTYD. Good times those were. I sometimes miss those days, but we move. HTTYD is definitely my favourite franchise of all time. And the netflix show Race to the Edge is brilliant, with the best villain of the the series, Viggo Grimborn. I honestly think I've seen EVERYTHING related to the original trilogy twice or even thrice. And I'm planning on rewatching everything again after like 2 years. Maybe during Christmas times (or in HTTYD termes, Snoggletog)
