One thing about this movie that i also love, less specific but anyways... i think this is the best "unlikely hero" story ever written i cinema. And the way hiccup and toothless fight the final dragon with everybody who belittled hiccup now counting on him cuz he actually grew to become their best hope on winning that threat... is really cool to see. I love that she's the one who leads him to realize what made this different, important. She understood the moment was defining and paradigm-shifting. A thing people tend to miss the most is Hiccup's father's facial expression when he walks out the door after saying "You're not my son", he was shaken and emotionally broken by either what he said or having 'lost' a son. Like everyone else, I'm so glad you guys have started this series! This first one is one of my favorite movies ever. In part because it has something you don't see a lot of in "kids" movies: consequences. Hiccup's disfigurement is not only thematically fitting but sends the message of a price to be paid for any actions/risks. I wholeheartedly agree with Jen's score of 10/10. I can't really think of any flaws this movie has. The characters, the heart, the humor, the score, all hit just right. Even the 3D was well done! HTTYD & Jim Cameron's Avatar have been the only movies to nail the theatrical 3D experience.

Yall are not ready for part 2. Legitimately the hardest I've ever cried in a theater it completely wrecked me. BTW Roger Deakins actually consulted on the cinematography for this one. So glad you two are finally watching this!!! I grew up on these movies and this franchise is one of my favorites to this day. There's even a couple of series directly tied to these films that take place between the first and second film. Also, that scene with Stoick telling Hiccup that he's not his son has one of my favorite details in the film. Right after Stocik exits he's really taken back with what he just said. Even though there might have been many times where he might have thought that, to finally voice that to Hiccup, he looks like he instantly regretted saying it with this look and gesture of "I can't believe I really just said that" before he carrys on. And that scene where Toothless first lets Hiccup put his hand on him and it looks like Toothless kinda hesitates before embracing Hiccup, that was actually a glitch in the animation that was ultimately left in beacuse it added more to that scene

This is one of my favorite animated trilogies of all time. They're all just really solid films and the themes resonate so well. The fight with the giant dragon in this movie is also one of my favorite final confrontations in film. The scale and danger of the dragon is so well depicted as well as how hard they had to fight it. They're all just wailing on this big hulking dragon the entire time and the impact of Toothless's fire is so satisfying. Most important of all, the conflict had real consequences. Hiccup literally lost a limb fighting it.

Definitely one of, if not, my favorite trilogy of all time. Each movie gets better in my opinion. This movie is able to so beautifully paint so many similarities between Hiccup and Toothless. A detail I noticed in y'all watching it that I never noticed before was how Gobber, the guy with the missing hand, says "A dragon will always go for the kill" and Hiccup asks about Toothless "So why didn't you?" And then later in the movie Astrid says "Every Viking would've killed that dragon." and then she asks Hiccup "So why didn't you?" Such a good small parallel in my opinion to show that both Hiccup and Toothless are out of the ordinary and unique for their respective species.
