I remember my college love was like this. It was sad because it was clear we would have been so much better just staying as friends. We just sat together one day and said good bye.

That happened to me so I panicked and just moved countries for a year so I’d have an excuse for the breakup - but then they wanted to do long distance 😭😭

I watched this entire special the other night, and I genuinely loved it. It’s a two part special on Netflix, and a good portion of the end of both is a lot more serious, but I think that’s a very unique style, and I loved it. Highly recommend watching it. Especially if you’re into dark ass humor 😂❤

that’s why you try to save the love by doing new things and new hobbies to make things exciting again. planning dates and chasing the person like you did in the beginning of a relationship. relationships that last decades always has ebbs and flows where each person “falls out of love” but they stick it out and continue to try and show that they care

True but to many people loving the other is hard work. So they just wont and call it dead. :)
@kjk8941

I used to think the same way. "When I no longer feel it, it's dead." WRONG! Long-lasting love is not a lasting feeling, but a decision and - as stupid as it is - work. You have to ACTIVELY decide that you want to stay with the person and be faithful to them. And if you meet another interesting person, don't think "now I have to break up". Because you will inevitably reach the same point with the new person at some point unless you work on yourself and your attitude. Because - fun fact - falling in love is nothing more than a chemical reaction that naturally passes at some point. It's not the partner's fault. And the absence of infatuation doesn't mean you should leave. Anyone who thinks like that will never have a really long relationship. As my grandmother said to me after more than 50 years of marriage: "People today think life is like a schmaltzy romantic comedy and are then disappointed and angry with their partner when there isn't romantic background music playing 24/7."

My husband and I still feel in love after 18 years, however we both never stopped putting effort into showing the other person multiple times per day that we loved them so perhaps the continued feelings just followed the continued actions. It probably also helped that we were polyamorous for the last 15 years, so finding other people attractive has never been something that would require us to break up, and also means there are no feelings we need to shove down or ignore in order to stay together. There is also a difference between the obsessive love ("limerence") that is present during the honeymoon period, which is a good thing it doesn't last (your brain has other important things it needs to dwell on besides your partner), so limerence fading does not mean that you don't love that person anymore. But if you are both not putting in active effort, I can see how your attraction to each other can wane. I wouldn't want to be with someone who isn't putting in effort, but is staying with me anyway because they decided they ought to be faithful, that just sounds like it breeds resentment. Loving someone should not be about what you do or refrain from doing outside of the relationship, but about what you do or don't do inside the relationship. But I do agree with the clip - if you're no longer interested in putting the effort in when you are with your partner, it's kinder to just break up sooner even if it makes you look like the bad guy so that they are free to focus on finding someone who will put in the effort, rather than leading the person on.

Love is a choice.... It is not a feeling. Who wants to fall in love? When you fall you will eventually hit the bottom. Instead choose to grow in love

It'll either feel bitter sweet. Likely because they're weren't bad but weren't right for you and you still care but it's not meant to be. Or it's like a breathe of fresh air. The weight of loving someone you rationally know isn't good for you or good themselves but couldn't emotionally shake but finally do.

Isn't that just a completely normal thing where a long term romantic partner becomes a best friend over time? Seems weird to me to leave just because life isn't as exciting anymore

Also, if you're polyamorous it doesn't make any sense either. I have one partner who is actually asexual and another who, for a number of complicated reasons, I don't have a strongly passionate or sexual relationship with, but they're a darling and I love them just...differently 😅. For different things I go different places :)

Not necessarily. This happened with my first love after four years. Next one is still ‘romantic’ (if that’s what you youngsters call it) after 40 odd. Lucky but not impossible

I've never been the one to leave, only ever the one left behind. Never cheated on anyone I've dated, and most of them have never cheated on me. But let me tell you, I'm fucking exhausted of being left behind. I deserve better than that.
