Is this a sign that Dickhead Survival is going to be making a recurrence? Those were great, I loved learning about how to dig with a knife, and how to sleep in a hole. Well not really a hole, more of a divot in the ground.

For those of us who haven't got $423.92 (US) for the Falkniven A2, the cheap and cheerful Condor Moonshiner (1075 Carbon Steel) will do almost everything just as well and at $87.54 (US) it's a bargain. I wrapped tennis racket tape round the handle of mine and now it's even better to use. And the thick, secure leather sheath that comes with it is really nice too.

I had a fallkniven a1 pro and a bark river wilderness explorer. I thought I could use the thinner blade for more if I paired it with an axe. But I find I get much better performance feather sticking with my a1. Sold the wilderness explorer. Still looking for something lighter in the 5 inch range. Didn’t live the handle on the s1

For me a prime feature in a big survival type knife is price. It needs to be cheap. Something like an SRK that has a very tough steel that you can really wail on and dig holes with and use as a prybar without too much regret.

The first knife of my knife addiction craze was a Fallkniven A1. Three years ago it was THE "if you could only have one blade" knife to prepare for the end of the world. Paid about $200. Was thrilled for more than a year to own the best production survival knife. Now premium VG-10 is considered mid-range steel. The A-1 is now my #3 of the 3 "if you could only have one blade" knives in my collection. #1 is my recently purchased Bradford Guardian 6 limited edition with M390. A big flaw in the design of these Fallknivens is the lack of a nice choil. The second flaw is the price: ouch! If they were still THE best in class, I'd consider holding my nose and barfing up the premium price. But they no longer are. However, still pretty nice knife porn if it's on someone else's dime. Thanks!

I like big knives but for that much money you might as well go with a 3v Bark River, or for much less, get yourself a CS Trailmaster in 01. VG10 doesn't make sense for what the knife is supposed to do. Even that BK9 is probably a better option..but it does look nice, at least the blade anyway, the handle is meh. Handle is more like the Trailmasters handle. Admittedly, nobody needs a knife that big, but they are fun to play with. I have quite a few in my collection. When I carry one into the woods though, I also carry a smaller more practical knife for my normal tasks..the big beast is for the fun of it. It's a testosterone thing, lol.

For years I always liked the shape of the Faulkniven A1/A2 , but I could never understand the price , even today it's still $259.00 on Amazon(USA), that's Bark River money , or you can get a Cold Steel SRK in 3V for about $140.00 or the San Mai for $102.00. Or you can just ask Survival Lilly which knife she prefers ( Sorry Pete , I had to say it). For outdoor camp or survival , I would take the BK9 all day , but that's just me . P.S. I still love the channel though Pete , and still waiting for more Dick Head Survival , lol ...

VG-10 isn't allowed to be exported under japanese law. So the Blades have to be made in Japan. These Blanks have to be transported to Sweden in order to be finished. So add customs and shipping. THEN add the work on it in Sweden. Don't forget the shipping and all the other following cost when the finished knives have to be delivered to the Dealers. So it's rather the legal situation in regard to the steel, that makes them so expensive!

@@CedricAda The steel is not the toughest anyway, and they also put a micro V-edge from factory, which ofc is weaker than a convex. My factory edge Endura, also VG-10, but an even smaller edge angle (i think), didn't have any problems in same situation ( minus 2-3 °C ~ 27 °F )
