They remastered Skyrim once, then updated it to work better on the Xbox Series consoles. I'd love a remaster of Fallout 3 myself, but I would also accept a port of 3, New Vegas or both as a bundle meant to run natively on the newer hardware and perhaps on the Nintendo Switch as well. I'd also be worried that 3 would lose that griminess it had originally if it where remade, like how Fallout 4 looks too polished and clean for 200 years of neglect sometimes.

@@bazilisek502 It's not the main quest, that bugs me, it's the easy difficulty compared to older titles, it's the boring radiant quests, it's some bugs which are not fixed until today, it's the missing attributes, it's the boring perks, it's the boring questlines which are to short, it's always same looking dungeons and the quests of Skyrim don't feel as worked out as in Daggerfall/Morrowind/Oblivion. Sure the older games are clunky, but in my opinion way better. Sure, you can do a lot with mods, but the quests stay the same.

I once had my 360 save get bricked with a bug where the right stick was disabled. Had to use V.A.T.S. to turn using my companion as a focal point, until it got glitched pointing straight up and V.A.T.S. no longer activated because no valid targets were in my view. (Reason I say bricked, these bugs affected every save I had even when clicking new game).

Script extender compatibility issues are half the problem. Fallout 3 is a 2008 game. Many mods that uses script extender will need to be updated even after script extender will be updated and many mods that don't use script extender are also now broken after the update. This update after all these years is just useless....it's just done by Microsoft to remember us they have bought Bethesda and they have now the Fallout brand...and they want to be with their consumers and their needs (cleaning the code of the game from their failed Windows Live service) .but it's just marketing..because for exibiting this stupid thing they broke the compatibility of the game with mods....that it's the core component of that game for most of the users today...

If you're already modding the game, then you should be willing to add 5-20 minutes to go through a guide on how to downgrade the game, repatch out GFWL, and configure the game for modding. I just stared a playthrough of Fallout 3 through steam on Windows 11. Followed a guide on steam to configure/mod the game to run properly, and now it's actually more stable than Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 4. Probably due to me keeping 3 Fairly vanilla with just some texture/visual mods, but still fully playable for me so far. The guide was titled: Fallout 3 (2022 "After Update" Edition) By Consul.

Fallout 3 was my first experience with the franchise. I had a potato pc and an "acquired" version because I was a broke college kid with absolutely no money. Needless to say that version of fo3 was completely broken, so when I got my tax return in I went and bought a ps3 and a copy of game of the year. One of my most nostalgic gaming experiences from that generation! I'm glad to hear there's an update that removes the windows live "feature" now that I'm older and had a decent gaming pc for a while I'm downloading it on game pass on pc. I'm so freaking excited to dive in! Hopefully sooner than later we can get that script extender mod fixed I've heard it's fantastic but I've not tried it sadly.

FO3 is still, in my worthless opinion, the greatest game ever. Sadly, only played it on PS3. Would love to be able to get a computer so I could check out some of the mods. Same with FONV. Sadly, they want money for computers. I'm an old married man with a kid. Last thing I have is money...which is why some of the newest games I own are FO3, FONV and FO4.

@@davidarnold7147 what upkeep? Like expensive sure, but if you drop 2-3k on a quality machine, just don't beat it up and it will last you nearly a decade. Just air it out every now and again, no upkeep required. I've been using my i5-6600k, 970ti, 32gbs ddr4, for nearly a decade and it still runs the majority of new releases in at least 60 fps.

If you are going to play modded Fallout 3 PLEASE play it via Tale of Two Wastelands. It's 3 with all the improvements and content from New Vegas's engine, and the ability to use NV mods like NVAC to improve stability. This is currently the only decent way to experience 3 on PC.

@@Andrvtti I don't actually use guides for mods usually. I'm a modder myself so I typically know what I'm doing. TTW has installation guides on their site though, and it's really pretty straightforward. Their installer does most of the work, you just have to have legal copies of both 3 and NV.

Damage threshold and ammo types alone are enough to make vanilla Fallout 3 obsolete. It's crazy how much that one thing changes the difficulty of enemy encounters, especially at low levels.

The game unmodded is completely busted on PC for me. I can't even get past the character creation sequence without the game freezing and forcing me to restart my PC. I'm running the game on Windows 11 and have a monster rig, so I know the issue isn't hardware related. Instead of rereleasing Skyrim for the 100th time, Bethesda should remake Fallout 3. That's a remake that is actually necessary

I tried F3 from steam just a few days ago after hearing the the news that it is supposed to run now without modding anything. It didn't do anything when launching normally. And trying to run as admin prompted errors about missing games for windows live files. No idea what went wrong there, but if I had to guess, they might have forgotten about the german version of the game. Which is the only one steam lets me download.

I own Fallout 3 through GOG, which has come preloaded with a Windows Live fix (as well I believe with the 4gb patch) since it launched on that site. My concern is that I just did a quick check and the GOG version of F3 doesn't appear to have an update, which means that FOSE should still work fine, but if FOSE is updated to the new steam version would it still work for the GOG version?

You posted this three days after I reinstalled Fallout 3 and learned of this same update. Fortunately, I'm one of the vanilla players. The main benefit is being able to alt-tab, which never worked for me before. Also, Steam tracks my in-game hours now, instead of only tracking the launcher. But that may have been because I was running it in compatibility mode before, which isn't needed anymore (at least, I assumed it was).

Trying to install this “Rebirth+” mod collection. Took a lot of trial and error to finally get it to run, and it finally does! But… I can’t for the life of me get the controller to work anymore.. I was playing around in Vanilla FO3 before doing all this downloading. No idea what the issue is here 😭 And another issue is FOSE gives me a message in Vortex saying it has errors with Stevie’s Tweaks. Still need to look into that one.. just taking a break from losing my mind trying to understand mods to rant here! Don’t mind me!

It was only updated for people on win10 or lower. I'm on win11 and it STILL doesn't just launch, a fresh install on a new pc that has never had fo3 before and it still doesn't work out of the box. Had to dl 4-5 mods and roll back the update to get it to work.

I installed Fallout 3 GOTY the other day and it has been a real pain to try and get it stable with all the mods. Trying everything and still ending up with missing textures, mesh errors, weapons not functioning, weapons and NPCs being invisible, and occasionally crashing at launch. It’s driving me nuts and I tried everything at this point lol. I guess maybe I need to wait for the mods to catch up with the update? I don’t know.

The Hog Rider card is unlocked from the Spell Valley (Arena 5). He is a very fast building-targeting, melee troop with moderately high hitpoints and damage. He appears just like his Clash of Clans counterpart; a man with brown eyebrows, a beard, a mohawk, and a golden body piercing in his left ear who is riding a hog. A Hog Rider card costs 4 Elixir to deploy. Strategy His fast move speed can boost forward mini tanks like an Ice Golem in a push. At the same time, he can also function as a tank for lower hitpoint troops such as Goblins as he still has a fair amount of health. Most cheap swarms complement the Hog Rider well, as they are nearly as fast as him and usually force more than one card out of the opponent's hand. The Hog Rider struggles with swarms, as they can damage him down and defeat him quickly while obstructing his path. Barbarians in particular can fully counter him without very strict timing on the defender's part, though be wary of spells. A Hunter can kill the Hog Rider in 2 hits if placed right on top of it. However, if you place something in front of the Hog Rider, the Hunter's splash will damage the Hog Rider and hit the card in front of it more. The Hog Rider in conjunction with the Freeze can surprise the opponent and allow the Hog Rider to deal much more damage than anticipated, especially if the opponent's go-to counter is a swarm, or swarms are their only effective counter to him. Skeletons and Bats will immediately be defeated by the spell, while Spear Goblins, Goblins, and Minions will be at low enough health to be defeated by a follow up Zap or Giant Snowball. However, this strategy isn't very effective against buildings as the Hog Rider will take a while to destroy the building, giving the opponent ample time to articulate another counter. Against non-swarm troops, it can deal a lot of damage during the freeze time, but this can allow the opponent to set up a massive counterpush. For this reason, players should either only go for a Hog Rider + Freeze when they have other units backing it up from a counterattack, or if the match is about to end and they need to deal as much damage as possible. It is not a good idea to send in a Hog Rider simply to destroy a building, especially if it is the only building targeting unit available, as defeating Crown Towers becomes substantially more difficult. Spells or simply waiting out the lifetime of the building are more effective. The exception to this is an Elixir Collector placed in front of the King's Tower. If a Hog Rider placed at the bridge, he can destroy the Collector for a positive Elixir trade, though the damage from both Princess Towers will usually mean he does not survive to deal any damage to them. However, if the opponent sends in defending troops, it can be an opportunity to gain spell damage value. In a deck with several low-cost cards, it might be worth it to simply send the Hog Rider against one building. These decks shuffle their card rotation quick enough, that they will arrive to their next Hog Rider before the next building arrives in the opponent's card rotation.Long-ranged troops like Musketeer and Flying Machine can snipe those buildings, preserving some of the Hog Rider's health, possibly allowing it to get some Tower damage. When there are buildings placed in the middle to counter the Hog Rider, understanding the placement of the Hog Rider and the type of building placed can help the Hog Rider to bypass certain buildings. Passive buildings such as spawners and Elixir Collector have a larger hitbox than defensive buildings; which means that if a passive building was placed 3 tiles away from the river in the middle of the opponent's side, then it is impossible for the Hog Rider to bypass that placement as the Hog Rider will get pulled to that building. Defensive buildings have a smaller hitbox than a passive building, which means if that if a defensive building was placed three tiles away from the river in the middle of the opponent's side, a Hog Rider placed at the very left or right side of the Arena may be able to bypass it due to its smaller hitbox. If the player has a building already placed down in the center of the arena, and the opponent tries to bypass it with a Hog Rider at the edge of the arena, they can use certain air troops to push the Hog Rider towards the building as it jumps over the river, effectively denying the bypass attempt. They must be already hovering over the correct placement, as very quick reflexes are required to correctly perform this technique. For Bats, Skeleton Dragons, and Minion Horde, they should be placed right in front of the Hog Rider as soon as it is deployed. For Minions, Skeleton Barrel, Mega Minion, Flying Machine, Electro Dragon, Baby Dragon, Inferno Dragon, Balloon, and Lava Hound, stagger the above placement one tile to the right if the Hog Rider is placed on the left side of the arena, and vice versa. They can also use ground troops to achieve the same result. Something like an Ice Golem deployed at the Hog Rider’s landing spot will obstruct his path and force him to go around the unit, which causes him to be closer to the building instead of the Crown Tower. The Hog Rider can kite Very Fast non-building targeting troops due to his own Very Fast speed and building only targeting if he is placed on the fourth tile from the bridge, slightly into the opposite lane. He can also stall grounded units when placed right at the bridge. He will pull them towards him while deploying, and then be untargetable by them when he jumps over the bridge. After landing, he will pull them back. This can be useful when the player needs to deal damage in the same lane they are defending. It will also help separate troops behind a tank in a large push. A Tornado placed on the second tile front of the player's King's Tower and staggered two tiles towards the Princess Tower will activate it without any damage dealt to the Princess Tower, helping them in defending future pushes. This can also be a method of mitigating all damage dealt to a Princess Tower, but doing this more than three times may result in the King's Tower's health being low enough to be targeted directly, opening up the possible threat of a back door three crown. A better alternative is to pull the Hog away from the Princess Tower into the attacking range of all three Crown Towers, which will negate all damage as long as none of them are already distracted A very powerful combo is the Hog Rider, the Musketeer, and the Valkyrie, typically referred to as the Trifecta. The Musketeer will defend against most troops, while the Valkyrie can protect her and the Hog Rider from swarms or high damage units. The Hog Rider is used to deal damage to the tower. This can be effectively countered by Lightning, one-shotting the Musketeer and severely damaging both the Valkyrie and Hog Rider. The Minion Horde is also effective, but the enemy can Zap them and the Musketeer will one-shot them all. Even if the Musketeer is defeated, the Hog Rider and Valkyrie will have enough time to severely damage the Tower. The Hog Rider should be placed behind the Valkyrie to give it a boost so that it stays in front of the Hog Rider, protecting it. A Hog Rider combined with a Goblin Barrel can be awkward for the opponent to defend against. Timing it so that the Hog Rider is tanking the tower shots for the Goblins is the most effective way to deal damage. However, a Barbarian Barrel can shut this down with minimal Tower damage for a positive Elixir trade, as long as the Goblin Barrel was placed directly on the Tower.Pairing the Hog Rider with the Balloon can deal devastating damage. If executed properly, the Hog Rider will act as a tank while the Balloon threatens to deal massive damage. The Hog Rider can also destroy any buildings attempting to slow down the combo. However, this combo is very vulnerable to swarms and anti-air cards as neither of the troops target anything but buildings. Additionally, they are easy to separate, due to the disparity in move speeds. Alternatively, the Hog Rider and the Balloon can be played in different lanes to spread the opponent's defenses thin. However, a building or Tornado can bring them back together for an easier defense. The Hog Rider can be paired with the Lumberjack as both a swarm bait and damage combo. It is a very fast combo with an extremely high damage output potential, so the enemy will likely try to counter it with a swarm. If this happens, use a spell like Arrows to render the opponent defenseless. If they manage to defeat the Lumberjack, the dropped Rage will make the Hog Rider even more dangerous than it normally is. A fast and deadly combination is the Hog Rider and Mini P.E.K.K.A. combo. Both units are fast but the Mini P.E.K.K.A. does much more damage and does not attack only buildings so the Mini P.E.K.K.A. can deal with troops like the Executioner and Musketeer. However, this combo can be defeated with swarms like Skeleton Army, which will defeat both of them since neither of them can deal area damage. They are also unable to target air troops, so the Minion Horde can stop this easily. A risky play is to deploy the Hog Rider at the bridge as soon as the match starts. If the opponent does not react fast enough, the Hog Rider will deal a significant amount of damage to the Princess Tower. This can also allow the player to quickly scout the opponent's deck if they happen to react to him fast enough

Honestly, the only mods I use for plain Fo3 are mods that make followers essential, can hore more than one and and can bring them to the DLC maps. I also use some minor mods that up the HP of BoS members. I dont know if any of those require FOSE to work. I doubt it. But since I now use Fo3 with TTW, I wouldnt know lol

While it did get updated to not require GFWL, it still refuses to launch on my Windows 10 PC, which is sad honestly. I’m glad modders are out there making patches, and personally I’m waiting on TTW 3.3 to play Fallout 3 with all the benefits of New Vegas’ engine. But there’s something really exciting about the game being downloaded in multiple languages, and that’s now Speedrunners can play the game in the fastest language cutting down their times even moreso!

If you are modding it, then go for Tale of Two Wastelands instead. Its more stable, has all the additions from the NV engine and all its mods to boot AND the TTW team has fixed a lot of broken things in FO3's base game and restored cut content. Let's just hope the geniuses at Microsoft don't decide to "update" New Vegas now too.

This is why I just use Tale of Two Wastelands and play 3 in New Vegas. Still have to have 3 installed (You MUST have all the DLCs for 3 and NV) but hey game is stable then and you get to play both, only problem is you can't access Fallout 3 exclusive mods.

I remember my game would crash every time I would try to complete Adams Air Force Base mission. I would be with Fawkes tearing sh** up and turn a corner and my whole Xbox would crash. Gog games already has a fallout 3 release that works, go use that one, it still works with script extender, it has no reason to need an update, it already sells without windows live and does not need the 4gb update. It's been like this for years on gog. Never buy old fallouts from steam.

It froze up twice during the character creation sequence, completely stopping my progress and forcing me to restart my PC (playing unmodded on a 3080) Sadly, the game is simply busted on newer Windows versions. im getting an issue where my character runs extremely slow ... he is not encumbered or injured in anyway. i was running around the game seemed to be running was fine and normal speed and then i ran into an abandon house with a bed and slept and then when i woke up the game was shuttering and my character runs in extreme slow motion. when he draws a weapon it is in slow motion and when he shoots or swings its in slow motion. it is so annoying. im also here weird sounds and it does it sometimes like some space ambient music and the screen goes blurry ... part of me wonders if it has to do with the space ship quest... i am running GOTY edition. part of me also cant remember if thats part of the games quest... its been 12 years since i played this game... something else that happens is i get a lot of crashing ... buzz freezes and i have to hard reset and reboot ... generally it happens within 10 minutes to 1 hour of gameplay. the other day one of the buzz freezes resulted in my gpu drivers some how corrupting ... i had to reinstall them ... the shuttering is worse after ... but all these issues existed before hand. i am so discouraged at this point ... another bethesda bug infested let down. btw i am running no mods of any kind its a vanilla install.

Had FO3 fixed but then windows kept updating and that juggernaut will not stop. Yeah, TTW is the way to go. New Vegas and 3 are both fantastic games, no need to fanboi one over the other as some content providers do for views or not play both. You still get FO3 and don't need to mod in iron sights with it's immense number of plugins that need merging.

Honestly it's somewhat sad that imo, the best and really the only way to play FO3 now is to use the Tale of Two Wastelands mod. It's a shame really, because TTW is so unstable it breaks most other New Vegas mods, so you either have to play vanilla entirely, or just not use TTW
