Fallout 4: TIPS for Early Game Survival Mode

Hi Guys! These are my tips to keep you alive in the early going of the new Survival mode for Fallout 4. The Survival Mode will be releasing on Console very soon! (I believe it just came out of Beta on the PC). It is a fun mode and adds some great new challenges to the world of Fallout.

Actually Chemist isn't. I usually keep some antibiotics with me while travelling and hit the doctor every time I'm in town or in one of my settlements. The only time I struggle without it is during the first 15 levels. After that I can start building hospitals and it becomes a lot easier to maintain diseases.

How are you absolutely murdering ghouls at the police station? I had to sneak and use about 6 molotovs to even get close to the police station.

Well yeah that's true, but you are absolutely murdering them per shot you make. It takes about 4 shots from a pipe weapon to fully take down 1 Ghoul for me early game in survival, and Ghouls usually appear in packs of at least 4. :(

The double-barrel shotgun, in VATs, is your best friend early-game. It has enough range to get ghouls with a one-shot pretty well beyond their lunge animation activation range. You can two shot in VATs and get a reload if you have enough AP for three and kill three in one round. Take the long-barrel and hardened receiver as early as possible. People naysay the shotgun as being purely close quarters...it isn't. It's not an all-purpose traveling weapon, but ammo is plentiful enough early game that you should get a 50-50 split between a shotgun and your upgraded pipe rifle/handgun.

Ikr I was really lucky had a wounding double barel drop at about lvl 4 survival i was dropping super mutants at around 60-70 feet with 3 good hits in vats now have it fully modded with 4 points into rifleman. Theses r the numbers damage is 169 with 25 points of bleed damage per pellet and it fires roughly 150 - 180 pellets per minute + the bleed damage stacks with each shot u will kill a deathclaw in around 20 secs upclose lol

Here some tips from my 8+ hour experience: 1. Build water pumps - in few time you will have a lot of purified water. You can even sell in near future. 2. Ally with most settlements possible - more items, "save stations" 3. Scrap the hell out of santuary and sell stell - you will make ~450 caps from that. 4. Get "Wasteland Survivor Guide" from Sunshine Tidings co-op and get double meat from animals. I didn't reach Diamond City, but i am pretty confortable with food and water for now.

@@orestisgeorgatos6725 Nah, getting to Diamond City in survival within 8 hours is a difficult task. Sometimes, it's easier to settle down a bit and get comfy somewhere like the Drive-In Theater. There's more strategy in getting to the heart of Boston than just running and hoping for the best. One mistep on a landmine, one molotov to the face, hell, one small pack of ferals or mongrela, all is enough to kill you dead. Not to mention, you need to have plenty of purified water and cooked food, unless you don't mind radiation and debuffs to your AP. Survival really makes getting to the great green jewel like a proper achievement, rather than just another small step in a shallow lake of radiant quests entangled in a sub-par main story.

I found an easy way to beat the Deathclaw... shoot at him until it gets close then run into the church beside the memorial building... the deathclaw is too big to get inside

The best method to save ammo would be to shoot the cars to damage the deathclaw with the explosions.

The Deathclaw is EASY just go into the black building across from the museum, it says HARDWARE on it, just make sure to pop out every now and again so the deathclaw doesn't loose interest in you, and he'll keep going to the door, in which he can't fit, just keep firing upon him until he's dead

Move settlers around (Sanctuary to Hangman’s Alley is a great example) after loading them down with as much as they can carry so you won’t have to make multiple trips. On Survival I keep a small crew of Robots as pack mules that I move to settlements near my current quest objectives.

It's an old vid now but... near the white tower, on your way to Abernathy, there is a half buried trunk that usually contains half decent armour. Someone below mentioned this, but, when fighting the Deathclaw, you can strafe around the rusted truck on the street corner near the front of the museum; you're usually safer if you stay between the truck and the closest building - the deathclaw never flips it but don't get complacent, sometimes it will squeeze in the gap between the two!

There's also a duffle bag filled with various ammo on the roof of the house with basement. You can climb that roof via a tree fallen on it or by building your self a set of stairs. One can olso mention various little houses (3-4 if im not mistaken) at the edge of the map near vault 111. There's a raider lady, lady who lives near little pond and a girl who built her self a nice little firing ground with bottles for targe practice, various ammo, pipe weapons, 10 mm pistols and chems may be gathered at said locations.

go outward from the inaccessable door at the concord sign (where he found the 3 purified water and medkit) and there should be a trunk that refills with bottlecaps, weapons, armor and ammo stuck in the ground. very good for early combat armor, but I mainly like the free caps and ammo. remember to come back often as it refills decently fast

When leaving santuary, if u turn to ur left as u come to the drifter and dog follow the river bank till u find a yellow vacum pump, turn off the pump and trace the pipe up the cliff. Once at the top u will have to fight some molerats (dogmeat is recommended if lvl 1 theres atleast 5 that pop up at the same time and in a small area ) take care of them ugly fookers then lift the lid of the second pump and there should be around 60-70 caps in three cap stash's then next to the caps should be a .44 snubnose with 14 rounds of sweetness. Make sure to turn the first pump off ;-)

Best way I found for the deathclaw: When you jump off the roof, there's an old rusted car on the street corner to the right. Just ring around the rosie while shooting at it over the roof of the car.

Nice video! When I got to the point with deathclaw, there was thick fog, so I couldn't see crap. I had to jump off, and it was a fail. I just waited for a day. Also, it's a good idea to shoot those cars and potentially take out huge chunks of deathclaw's hp. Nuclear engine, babeh!

do you use any mods? Cos some mods for survival game mode seems really good, like, make your camp, or maybe backpacks for you and dog, and some others. I would also put in quicksafe maybe or the one where you put your stuff in the container, mark the container, and settlers come to pick your stuff.

You can also use the Interior of the buildings to keep the DeathClaw from getting to you. He will go away if you are in the buildings, but you can use it to Kite him.

There's a military chest slightly southeast of the water tower between it and the Abernathy farm, in a grave or ditch. It has some really good stuff in it.

What i did took time but made survival mode easy. Sanctuary fully scrapped out gives you around 2000 wood/scrap. I walked (and using dog meat as a pack horse) back and forth selling all my junk from sanctuary at different early game shops. Then once i had enough for the Overseer's guardian I B lined it for vault 81. Having the OG at lv11 made the rest of the game a lot more manageable. Now im lvl 40 and everything bows before me

Also, if you have the manufacturers workshop DLC, you can make .38 rounds for 2 steel and 1 fertilizer for 10

you can draw the deathclaw out, run back to the hardware store and kill it by shooting through the door and windows. It's a lot faster that way

Tip for the Concord Deathclaw: You can go inside one of the stores near where it comes out if you're fast enough, You'll hit the wall a bit but from there you can just spam on your minigun.

Alternatively you can fire at the deathclaw safely from the building right in front of where you jump off. There are plenty of windows and the deathclaw cant enter but will keep trying (unless there are raiders around but it will come back once it sees no more raiders).

I'd say pertaining to water and the settlement mode build as many power generators that run on power as possible. the purified water they generate in the workshop will eliminate the need to hunt for bottles indefinitely as far as I'm concerned

I believe that vendor under the power lines is a random encounter. Other things I've found there are: Person begging for water. Guy down digging up the pre-war bunker. Stack of nuclear waste barrels, complete with glowing radroaches. Radstags. Traveling doctor.

At the statue at the end of the bridge in sanctuary there is a duffel bag with good early game weaponry. There is also a mole rat den location very close to the back of the red rocket with some meds and a fusion core, the robot disposal yard has a free fusion core and a fat man as well as high tier junk

The mole rat den is also home to a huge amount of Glowing Fungus, which is a component in Antibiotics! You only need Chemist 1 to make them, which requires 7 INT, but I consider it pretty crucial in the early going. I don't really like low INT characters in survival, unless you pair it with Idiot Savant, and get overleveled early. That's just my preference, though.

You learn as you go. Once you're high enough level, the hardest enemies become trivial due to the amount of damage you deal. Need food? Make a robot farm. Water? Build purifiers. Most tips are just self explanatory.

There are a few beds around Concord: One in the house to the right with the baseball bat behind the door; one in the same house as the dead raider in the NW area of Concord -- you can also find a bolt-action pipe rifle there sometimes, along with a very early double-barrel. It seems like there is one more close by that I'm missing. I'm almost certain there are are three...and one of them might even be a *clean* bed.

Cool video, thanks. Sooo: The trader behind those Raiders is just ONE option, whenever U start a new game, there will (most likely) be someone or something else. I already found there a burial, a feral ghoul ambush, some girl who wanted Radaway - and other stuff. The tent is always there. Shooting at the deathclaw with VATS should happen, when that sucker is VERY close. Belly or head. Also U should have mentioned that exiting the armor while carrying too much (for the human) could hurt or KILL U.

The Deathclaw is easy just go into the store across from where drop down from the roof, 9.9 out of 9 times he can't come in the store and you can shoot him through the window with impunity. But the biggest trick for Survival mode is take it slow, stealth builds are best from what I've tried. You can get a combat knife and a silenced bolt action pipe rifle within the first 2-3 levels if you're careful. With Blitz, Sneak, Ninja and Big Leagues as your first four perks the combat knife works great until you can get enough ammo for the Rifle.

You can be safe from the Deathclaw on the balcony overlooking the grate he comes out of, he will try and throw rocks at you but you can bring him down easily enough with the minigun.

want to know how to kill the deathclaw without a scratch? well jump down then when he/she gets close then hip fire with your mini gun you do this because the deathclaw does some dodging skills so you can walk away hip firing then when you need to reload then just when you start reloading go into vats but don't fire at it just chill in vats until the 0 goes to 500 at the bottom left then repeat till you kill the beast

I like to hop out of the power armor and run on the metal that the death claw comes out of to trigger the death claw and if you didn't kill the raiders at all you can run on one of the streets next to the main one with raiders and the death claw will make it's way down the main road killing all the raiders and I finish the tiny amount of health the deathclaw has after by running in the store closest to Preston's left and shooting through the doorway

Protip: when fighting the deathclaw in concord, hide in the little shop on the left. the deathclaw cant enter and you have shooting portholes all around.

About the deathclaw just run into the store in front where you jump , the deathclaw will be stuck in the windows , you can kill him with pipe pistol :) and yeah tell your dog to go into it as well since he will fight deathclaw if you don't real easy on any difficulty :)

Eh, hiding in the building is better. You can shoot at the deathclaw while it helplessly runs around entrance. Also, getting a clinic shop and radiation cleaning arch asap is good for healing illnesses (basic 15 caps option) without wasting antibiotics if you catch one in the field and removing rads for free altogether. Also, cannot bring myself to using those ugly pipe guns. I breack all of them for parts and sell .38 ammo for caps. As plentiful as they are, I get a good income. Speaking of caps, having an empty settlement with automated water pumps is a fine way to get stable income of caps that you can later spend on ammo at merchants or gun trader within settlement.

The best way to kill the first deathclaw is to jump down and run to the alley near the red truck. Get out of your armor in the center of the alley near the entrance. Now kill the raiders to spawn the deathclaw. Run back to your alley past your armor. The deathclaw can't move the armor or jump over it and will not be able to reach you. About 30 shotgun blasts to his head and he is dead
