Most of the fans think Moldaver had her own cryogenic freezer, so like Hank she probably spent most of the last 200 years on ice. She was wealthy and a scientist pre-war with connections to Vault Tec, if anyone could make that work it would be her. She also has that line in episode 7 about her being a hypocrite or using hypocrisy, so she probably did exactly what vault tec did and froze herself.

This comment section is unnaturally nasty this week. Not having to walk to a well or having water accessible to you is comfortable. It's not because I live in Canada that I don't understand what electricity does. My confusion is that in a show about everybody being morally gray, we have maldaver who is apparently this bastion of morality and only wants good things for everybody... Was that well told? I don't remember ever hearing about her motives or her goals beyond cold fusion for everyone.

@@HannaHsOverInvested I'm really sorry the comments have been hostile.. the internet sucks sometimes.. Ill do my best to not come off the same way as others have.. I genuinely would like to know why you have the impression that the show is about "everyone being morally gray" ? I would also like to discuss Muldaver.. based on your reaction and comments you have made you have the impression that she is the good guy and that she wants to help everyone.. I didn't get that impression at all, we did open the show with her and her goons raiding the vault with the intention of kidnapping the overseer and executing all the innocent dwellers, which now we know includes her friend/lover/roommate's children in the process. But she certainly is the good guy for all the survivors of Shady Sands and she's the leader of what is left of that civilization and they basically worship her.. I believe her final act of restoring electricity to her people shows her intentions, she did it all for Shady Sands, to give them a chance at a better life and a chance to rebuild what was taken from them.

answers to some questions: 1-) ghouls get crated after consuming high amounts of radiation so when shady sands got nuked lucy's mom became ghoulified 2-) maldover's comapany has been bougth by vault-tec and she was most likely given a junior executive position and frozen/given a position in 31. since even hank didnt realize anything awkward when she first introduced herself as over-seer of 32 3-) Enclave( surviving richest citizens and high ranking goverment agents and their descendents) has multiple nuke silos and an orbital space laser at their disposal so they are more than likely to destroy anyone who opposses them 4-) ghouls cant die from hunger, thirst and/or old age 5-) last scene was so hype for every casual fan since it shows new vegas a game known for it's interesting characters, stories. would reccomend playing it.

It's not likely that Moldaver was brought on to Vault Tec. Her company being bought out was likely about taking legal custody of the cold fusion technology, effectively locking Moldaver out of developing the technology such that it could disrupt Vault Tec's societal control. Rather than being brought in as an executive, she was almost certainly given a payout and ousted entirely. While she was likely frozen, it was probably on her own dime.

I don't think capitalism means purely money, but anything of value. So when money becomes obsolete it falls to technology, people, food, and water. Vault-tec also believe that if they are the only ones left then there will be no conflict. Sure when a group gets large enough internal strife starts to happen, but that is why they manage (management) who gets to survive. 32 and 33 were people who were genetically predisposed to be yes man and cowards. Anyway, the plan is flawed because people are flawed. Rose, Lucy, and Norm refused to follow the system. When the people in 32 found out the truth they stopped following the system and murdered everyone. Basically the idea was doomed to fail but Vault-tec was arrogant enough to think that they could do it anyway. Lots of social and political philosophy. Moldaver most likely had access to a cyropod. They might explain it next season, but anyone from the past in the future I am gonna assume they were frozen. Ya Moldaver wanted free clean energy for everyone which goes against Vault-tec's plan of controlling everything.

If you pull the thread all the way back, money (unbacked) is the promise of future productivity of the citizens. Money(backed e.g. gold standard) Is the promise that you have the physical backing in storage and will hand it over upon demand. The money it's self is just a made up go between, to help facilitate trade between citizens. The currency you use is what ties you to your nation. Your state and country will tax you, and only accept payments in local currency. In theory, you could barter with friends, businesses, and neighbors, and only use your local currency to pay taxes; as least if everyone else went along with it (Spoiler, they won't.) Poor places are impoverished because the individual citizens haven't and/or there's low confidence by outside locals that they will produce many assets. If you convinced all the people in your city to devote all their spare time and excess resources to building up and maintaining where you live, using only the best available craftsmen and materials; your city would immediately become wealthy. The citizens could have no income and they're all still wealthy, because of their local assets (Assuming they all have free access to them.) The money is a voucher that allows access to elevated goods and services. The real key is the productivity of the "Best available craftsmen and materials".

The endgame of capitalism is power. Always has been. Complete control of all markets. What's funny is how many people don't actually realise it. Without going into spoilers from the games, the people in the meeting are also being manipulated. Like they have said before, the Vaults are experiments. You don't want the experiment itself to become the final product. You want to know from the experiment which approach WOULD work, then get rid of the experiment and use the methods it gave you. Who is doing that? Game fans have an idea, everyone else waits until season 2.

The logic behind vault tec's business plan is essentially: "if everyone has a bunch of gold, but I have a button that turns everyone else's gold to lead, I'll be the only one with gold" but instead of just gold, it works for other resources as well (food, water, medicine, etc) Its kinda like the most hostile takeover in the history of hostile takeovers

"How will this make them money?" Remember that people buy a place in the Vaults because they are afraid of War, of nuclear War. If there's no looming threat of war, then people will stop buying places in the vaults and the comapny making the vaults and selling them places will lose money and possibly go bankrupt. Like companies selling insurances. If there was a decent enough risk that your bike was stolen or your home would get burnt down you would sign and pay for an insurance to help you cover those costs. In this show people do the same with the Vaults. They pay (once or over time) for a place in these vaults. But if there's no real risk of a war happening, why bother paying? If you were immortal and with no risk of getting sick or injured, why would you pay for a health insurance? If you knew you'd never get into a carcrash, why have a car insurance? So the companies in that room have a corporate interest in keeping the war going, or at least the fear of war. But why drop the bombs themselves? Every company eventually want monopoly. That's the best situation for a company where they are the only actors on a market. They can set the prices, they can set the quality (reduce quality to save costs) and a bunch of other reasons. Comapnies want to sell more than their competitors, they want more market shares. But if theya re alone on the market, they have all the shares. If you can't compete with a market now in these times, freeze yourself and come back 500 years later after the nuclear war and rebuild. Now you have full monopoly on everything! And think back to competing ideologies, religions that war or fight each other, countries that are at wr over resources. None of that will happen if everyone on the surface is dead and the only survivors have been trained (brainwashed and indoctrinated) into one way of thinking. Everyone will get along, you can plan everything from scratch with the new technology we have instead of just building on already built structures. Why try to build another floor on a building when you can wipe an entire city and plan everything much better knowing what we know today (compared to what people knew and tech they had 100-150 years ago)?

lmao no shot you justified this unironically when what we're presented with is Bud, which is literally played as a joke. They never put themselves in a position to come back and rule anything, even if they did they have logistical limitations with no infrastructure, so whatever hierarchy they'd have would just be its own tribe anyway. Then beyond that which disregards it as any sort of real plan, the board get giddy at the idea of experiments that serve no purpose in the event of the apocalypse Even further beyond that some of those people were supposed to have things they care about they'd not want nuked, yet the idea of random experiments was enough to entice them into destroying that. So they're just evil for the sake of evil? They all just want to play god? Maybe you could have 1 idiot character somehow in that position, instead there are multiple, all heads of company that are all just reduced to being the same character that all agree to decisions that don't benefit them If they wanted to play it as a parody or satire, it could have all been about Bud's loser plan and how spectacularly it fails. Instead all of the board have to be a joke because he is The most interesting spark of anything there is Bud, because he's the only one even slightly characterized, it could have been presented as humorous tragedy, Bud's grand idea for something bigger than he can offer the world right now. Instead it's just a few sinister idiots. None of it works from any perspective. So usually people justify it with something not in the show for it to make any sense. Somehow you took the worst surface presentation in the show and ran with it Like almost everything else in this show it's a mediocre idea, poorly executed and butchers any semblance of character to reach it.

For the mom being a ghoul, it's likely due to the dad nuking Shady Sands with her in it. Ghouls are essentially a mutation from radiation. So she got irradiated and turned into a ghoul. That's pretty clear at least. For Moldaver, maybe it'll be explained next season, maybe not.

From what I've heard (don't take my word for it), the vault trifecta isn't going to be revisited next season. That might also be for Moldaver. What happened to V32 has also been speculated in, but the show definitely needs some enclosure on these points. Eventually. But it's not like I need it "next season", or else... Some probably answered it already by the time i finished typing this, but... Molvaver's original goal was probably cheap energy and - after Vault-Tec bought her invention to not use it - revenge. The first moments of the animated end credits are a hint how she could survived the nukes. She had money, influence, connections. And after the nukes, she probably just wanted to help the people and realise her old dream. (or something much more sinister, knowing it's Fallout :D ) Mom was a bit too close when her husband dropped the divorce papers on Shady Sands. The corps doesn't just wanted to earn profit from the Vault sales, weapon and tech, but retain their influence after the war. Drop the bombs, outlive everyone, and when the surface is okay again, be the only power with energy, water, tech, etc. (It was a flawed plan, like any overhyped, underbaked corpo idea...their possible scenarios did not include people rebuilding before they even crawled back to the surface, or techno-fetishist cults emerging...and a lot of other things.)

I thought they were supposed to be in the 700-1000 kT yield range? That's still way above Japans 15-25 ('ish) kT, and even more so above the roughly 1 kT detonations (think artillery tactical nukes) that were depicted in the beginning. Based on analysis by a nuclear engineer, not myself. That said, the reason is quite obviously an artistic one. Radiation is still going to rely on half life. If *very* radioactive, then also half life is short (hours, days, maybe weeks). Other than what's released in the initial blast, physics would have to do the rest. Fallout nukes are ground detonations which cause more fallout to be spread around, whereas an aerial blast would damage buildings in a larger area. While you may come across concentrations of fission products like Cesium-137 or Cobalt-60, it's not like these will last forever and contaminate large areas. Those would be penetrative gamma emitters, but only about 1/20 the damage of alpha emitters which you'll have to ingest/breathe to be dangerous. Read up on "Kramatorsk radiological accident". It's friggin insane that a 7x5mm ('ish) piece of highly gamma radioactive material could cause this. Cesium (half life 30 years) capsule used for industrial purposes was lost and mixed into the concrete used to erect the building. But its not like you'd find the stuff in abundance after a nuclear event. From my understanding at least.

When she says it would be hypocrisy to only allow the bad guys to use the resources available. basically she had access to everything voltec did cryo pods and most likely her own volt remember "Barb said no one has to know" and back then they didn't know maldavor was against them. and she said she worked for a company Voltec bought.

Watching reactions to this show really gives insight into how people think. Some people pick up on all the hints, implications and non-explicit subtext. Other people are completely confused because they're expecting exposition-type detailed breakdowns of everything. *They explained earlier in the show that ghouls come from radiation. *The amount of things people could do with unlimited energy is huge in a world without fossil fuels. The fact you don't seem to get that is...wild. *Dane saw an opportunity to advance their position in the Brotherhood. *The people in the Vault were hard-core middle management, waking them up would be a bad idea. *If you watched the end credits, it would have told you both where the new city was, and how Moldaver could have survived. *Barb didn't have the idea for sharing the Vaults. She was receiving orders from the person in the shadows. The Vault experiments are part of a wider plan.

The way ghoulification works (from my understanding) is it happens after intense radiation exposure plus maybe some genes? Which extends the life as well as eventually begins to decay the body. With the nose and eyelids n’ such. Eventually, if left untreated, you turn feral where the radiation infects your brain
@caffeinedelusions
@caffeinedelusions 2 ай бұрын
Low to moderate radiation exposure over a prolonged period is actually more likely to result in the Ghoul mutation (and mutation in general, honestly) simply because INTENSE radiation exposure has a higher instance of just killing you outright... but it's all ultimately down to a roll of the dice. It's possible for a single instance of flash radiation to do it, even if you're more likely to fry and die of radiation poisoning.

SEASON1 is a perfect example of be careful what you wish for. Lucy's goal was to find her dad, Norm wanted to know the secrets that were being kept about vault 31, and Maximus goal was to become a knight. All three got what they wanted and I think wish that they hadn't. Vault Tec's goal was to be the only ones left so that they could dictate how humanity progressed.

Theres a more symbolic meaning to turning back on the power. When the NCR was at its height, it became truely powerful once it started rebuilding the territories under its control, they used solar power, wind, and even nuclear power to rebuild and even expand the old world power grids. People had water purifiers, machines for mass production of ammo and weapons, and even refigeration. Life became infinitly better than it had for 100s of years. Then. . . The NCR fell with shady sands. And all that work was lost. As a fan, i saw the turning back on of the lights as a beacon. . . A rallying cry. Letting everyone know that there is still hope. . .

Yep, the NCR was a true restoration of society as a functional unit. It did more than just scrape around for relics in the ruins. It cultivated. It educated. It protected. It fabricated. It was organizing agriculture, securing the wasteland against raiders, making new things, and doing all of it according to authentic, sincerely held values in the power of community and democracy. Life as an NCR citizen in an NCR community wasn't paradise... but it wasn't wastelanding. You could sleep at night, you could eat food and be confident that it wasn't soaked in rads, you could learn trades and study to expand human knowledge. You could actually build a life and live it.

The show glosses over a lot of the established lore when it comes to Vault-Tec's purpose before the war. The Enclave (the group that the scientist with the dog was running away from) is the remnants of US Government, they originally contacted Vault-Tec into creating experimental and control vaults for the purpose of studying long term effects on people in confined living in order to prepare a select group of people for deep space travel. Before the show there has been speculation that Vault-Tec along with the US Government dropped the first bombs but there has always been enough evidence to also point to China attacking the US first and the US just retaliating. The show also doesn't do a good job of explaining the back story of The Brotherhood of Steel or The New California Republic.

That should be the first thing you understand, control is hardly the stopping point, the conclusion would be deeper than that. Unfortunately nobody is characterized in the show, so there's no genuine answer. What control? Control over what? They destroyed production? Bud's whole thing is portrayed as a joke? They want to shape the world for a few hundred years and then come back when it's done? Nothing in place for it. How do they then take it back from management? What guarantee do they have that management will follow the plans to create a world for them eventually? They're relying on them to dedicate their lives to that? They certainly can't oversee it themselves in cryo. Some of the board were previously characters, now they all want the same nonsensical vague semblance of capitalism is control actually. These are the nonsense stories get when they have mediocre ideas and no talent or effort.

But no matter how far you go with that, to find any sort of conclusion none of it is the show, none of the motivations actually exist. So you really are left with your vague idea of "control". Humans created Money Paper money ( Notes, hard Currency Like GOLD/Silver COINS) as a way to replace the Previous system which was Barter which was a Way to Trade YOUR TIME ( it takes Time to BUILD CREATE Make things to exchange) so I take 4 hrs to make something and exchange that for lest say a dinner that Took Hrs to make, Hours to grow hunt the ingredients etc. SO if they wipe out the world they are Now in charge of the PEOPLE who then Have the TIME to exchange for those services eventually they will create a new form of currency ( caps on the surface in this case) which the NEW world order would end up in charge of anyways and as they rebuild society they would be ON top with no competition.

There's also the fact that they're selectively breeding. Vaults 31, 32, and 33 are designed to make a "leadership class", the other experiment vaults are creating augmented things and doing psychological experiments, and they're perfectly happy to wipe out "inferior" humans. They want a human race that will do what they're told, and that's to be controlled and exploited.

You can always check out videos on the other vault experiments if the ones you got in this episode weren't satisfying enough. Neet thing about this series is that in Fallout 4 you play as a war vet that was put into a test type vault for the cryo pods. It was set up so the operators were human and would starve to death to see how long the cryo pods could operate optimumly without any upkeep, and in this show it's almost a completed version of that one with the cryo pods having an eternal "manger" to handle the upkeep and two other relatively isolated vaults for breeding pools. I believe the people at the top of Vault Tech have an even more perfected version and not only plan to wait out the people on the surface but all the subsidiary companies test vaults as well, with a second world ending weapon in the back pocket. But that's just me speculating. Loved your reaction series.🤘

"Why did Moldaver keep Lucy's mother alive?" I think you were on to something when you hinted that maybe Lodaver and Lucy's mother was a bit more than just friends. Even if not lovers then at least companions. Ghouls are usually created by being exposed to radiation, so people living near where the blasts happened would get a constant dose of background radiation which would mutate them. Some would turn ghoul very fast while others would seem "normal" for a long time before becoming ghoulified. Also, remember Roger? The ghoul that they shot and turned into jerkey? Roger was about to turn. His mind slowly deteriorating and he would go feral. A Feral ghoul is very primal and attacks anyone nearby that is not part of its "pack". In the games you can encounter a family that was turned to ghouls together and they don't attack each other, or other feral ghouls, but they will attack the player. So I think Moldaver kept the ghoulified mother near her just out of sentimental reasons. Sure, it would probably be a nice trick to use against Lucy when she arrived, but I think Lucy's mother and Moldaver worked on Cold Fusion together for a while. They got to know each other and feelings arose. Then Henry/Hank dropped the bombs on Shady Sands and the radiation turned the mother into a feral ghoul real fast. Maybe Moldaver was somewhere else which made her survive (remember Maximus survived by hiding in a fridge). How Moldaver survived for this long, remember she is/was connected to Vault-Tec. They bought her company. If you have played the games you will realize that corruption is rampant and using connections to get favors is all over the place. It is fuly possible that she found a cryo pod somewhere and used that, or she used her connections to get into a spare pod somewhere. Remember she lived in Shady Sands, where Vault 4 was. And on Floor 12 we saw the pods of the frozen ladies impregnated with fishbabies. So she could have been in one such pod without being part of the experiments.

I suspect she kept Rose alive, in a room with a view, so Rose could see the lights turn on, and maybe for that split second, her face would light up, and they could have a moment, of sorts. Moldaver had to wait for it to get dark, to turn the lights on and get that moment.

Ghoulification is the one thing I think the show explained poorly. Most things, they did a good job of presenting the world to newcomers. But not ghouls. The introduction of the drug confuses things, if you're not already familiar with the rules. Most ghouls are made by radiation exposure. That's it. It's not clear that the percentage is, but a portion of people who get a heavy dose of rads don't die, but rather have their skin harden and their soft bits (nose) fall off. They become ghouls. Lucy's mom was near the blast, so she got an extra heavy dose of rads Unfortunately, she seems to have turned rapidly, going feral. By the time Muldaver found her, she was nothing more than a burnt zombie.

Bingo! It’s not about money, but power. The most powerful people in the country formed vaulttech to take over the country, maybe the world, after nuclear war. How did Lucy’s mom become a ghoul? Ghouls are created when they’re exposed to too much radiation. Some, like Cooper, get to keep their memories and personality. Most other ghouls, like Lucy’s mom, “go feral”: turned into dangerous zombies. Thank you for choosing the Fallout show! Your reactions are a lotta fun, and you ask good, thoughtful questions. My suggestion for the next show? I think I’m gonna go with Cyberpunk: edgerunners. It’s kinda thematically adjacent to fallout. It’s also based off of a video game and TTRPG. It’s also about life in a dystopia, and it also has some truly compelling characters.

I think the plan was to eliminate the competition while at the same time profiting off vault sales and guiding humanity to look to your corporation for leadership and resources. Moldaver either survived via a different vault or via one of the numerous cryogenic hotels - you see an ad for one in the end credits of either this or the previous episode. I too think she and Lucy’s mom were in a relationship. It’s the only way I could see someone being so attached to a person they would let their undead body stick around.

6:05 It makes sense in a way that IF the nuclear war doesn't happen, Vault-Tec becomes broke as fuck because they have to pay back the money that people paid for the place in the Vault, BUT they already spent that money on building and supplying those Vaults. In order for Vault-Tec to keep making money, they actually needed the nuclear war, the desctuction of humanity, and the return to the service (and resume economic activity). No nuclear war means Vault-Tec loses all money and will immediately collapse and become unsalvageable. The end of the world creates earning potential by destroying most of the economy and life outside the vaults, making the vaults the centre of all economic activity after the war. NCR and Shady Sands were all funded by Vault 15 settlers, and that's the richest part of the former USA in Fallout.

And I love that this applies to all of the three main characters. They all got what they wanted, but in a distorted and grim way. Lucy wanted to find her dad. She did, only to find out that he was a monster and a liar. Maximus wanted to become a knight of the brotherhood. He did, but now he has realized that the brotherhood was not the force of good he believed it to be, but a militaristic and violent cult. The ghoul wanted to be a real cowboy again. He is a cowboy now, but he’s also essentially a walking corpse, relying on drugs to keep his sanity, and without a family.

You have to remember that Moldaver was working on Cold Fusion in a universe where Nikolai Tesla was more revered than Edison. One of Tesla's big ideas was *wireless* *electricity*. The ability to transmit power like radio waves. When you play Fallout 4 and 76 you see this with some devices like light bulbs and such, which only need to be near a wired power source to work. Moldaver's company, as she said to Cooper, was on the verge of cracking cold fusion and releasing it to the public. It would have completely and utterly destroyed Vault-Tec because it would have solved a *huge* problem of the Resource Wars - which we are, coincidentally, getting into ourself with nations fighting over water and arable lands. An unlimited power source, wirelessly available, would solve so many problems, *and* it would have bankrupted Vault-Tec. Vault-Tec's whole thing was banking on The Apocalypse. Like Cooper's friend, Charles, says, "Vault-Tec has a fiduciary responsibility to make sure the peace talks don't go through." This slightly distracts us because it makes the whole thing seem like it's about money, and it's not. Vault-Tec's end goal is way more evil, and they just use the vaults as an investment incentive with the other companies - like RobCo, West-Tek, and Big MT - to get funds in for the construction of the vaults. Once the vaults are built, Vault-Tec couldn't give a flying crap about the other companies, their people, or even their money. Moldaver was working on elevating the human race to a higher form of living through endless electricity, as abundant and freely available as rain water. Vault-Tec worked their damnedest to enslave anyone who could afford to buy into a vault and then use them for experimentation. And even if you don't play the games, you can still see how Vault-Tec's plan was so hugely flawed just on the basis of itself being about the vaults and nothing else.

They eventually figured out how to turn on their G.E.C.K which is a terraforming device to not only make the environment favorable to grow plants but also has all the seeds needed to do so and automatically does everything itself. ….the vault rapidly became over grown, but that was ok because it was suppose to happen and the geck spread out into the wasteland and created entire Forrest’s and such over the next several decades! ….shady sands is what they formed, and the NCR is what came from that. ….so hanks vault did not miss re-emergence day… theres was simply scheduled much later than any of the others. ….so Hank blew up vault tech out of blind fear and anger!!!! 😂 You can learn that kinda shit on the “oxhorn” channel when he goes through the show and explains different character arcs. kzbin.info/www/bejne/lXSliqyAhqaaqJo

So much to comment for this one! Instead of multiple comments I’m just going to leave this mega one! Short ones first: I Love youʻre calling her goosey 😂 Also, when you’re a storyteller the questions are normal, and it’s why I watch you 😊 Love the insight! When I’ve played Fallout 4 and a little of New Vegas, my impression was Valt Tech failed, and the wasteland was a result of capitalism’s need to put profit over people. But okay, it’s planned? lol IDK. The de-aging thing isn’t there yet, but it’s getting good. We know what Kyle MacLachlan looked like 30 years ago, and pretty close. “War never changes” is a line in every game, so they forced it in there. It probably would have fit better with The Brotherhood of Steel. Maybe Valt Tech tries to change war and fail and someone says it? Just ideas for free, Amazon! Or just have Cooper say it that once. I could never willing stick my own foot in a boot with a blade in it. I’d rather shoot my foot and say it was an accident. Owww. I think how Moldaver still being alive and not aged is she’s a clone Being they didn’t answer that this season I think she’ll be back next season. Now for the essay I’ve been waiting for: I like this show, despite its glaring plot holes, (If Moldaver knew Lucy as a kid and loved her mother, why did she let her marry a raider who could’ve killed her? And lets be honest, SAed her, other plot holes like making money, the convenience of things, the plot armor Cooper knowing the flaw in the armor but not shooting Max in the second epidsode, I can go on 😂). But I forgive these little things, which there is a lot of, because I like the characters: the duality of Cooper, Lucy being naive but not stupid and becoming harder but not losing her values (“golden rule motherfucker!), and I LOVE what they did with Maximus. Cause the first major question I had was did he put the blade in the boot? And they don’t answer that until this episode. So the whole time I’m questioning his motives, cause his character changes significantly depending on the answer. And I like that he didn’t, and it’’s like, oh he’s just dumb and lucky (there’s Luck skill in Fallout 4 [Idiot Savant] where the lower your Intelligence stat is the higher chance you gain bonus experience points, and that’s Maximus lol). Another thing I like is a lot of little things about the characters too, like Lucy saying her father would be disappointed if to save him she destroyed a community, well whoopsie 😅 Another flaw about the show, which is also why a lot of other people like it, is that it sticks HEAVILY to the continuity of the games. It’s a flaw because whatever inherent flaws in the logic of the games carries over (what is Valt Tech’s business plan? lol) But ultimately despite all this, the characters and seeing where they end up is more important to me, and I feel they did that very well. I certainly can forgive plot holes and overused cliches if the characters are good. I do really like this show and can’t wait for the next season. TL;DR: Despite plot holes, this show has good characters and that’s why it’s resonating with people. Thank’s for reading my KZbin comment essay, my next one (if you ever watch it) will be for the last episode of Battlestar Galactica. Thank you and so long, farewell, auf Wiedersehen, goodbye!

So something fans found in the credit sequence was a sign in the Vegas selling Cyro pods, Moldaver was pretty well off pre-war, she also was learning about Vault-Tec and had Cooper to tell her what they were planning. Also one people in that Vault-tec meeting was a major character in one of the games and basically ran Vegas. He would be very interested in someone who could provide cold fusion so maybe he got her in a pod or got her a discounted pod. That’s a theory but fairly well supported. New Vegas is by far the best new Fallout game so fans were very excited to see it at the end, but I will say this ending did feel a bit more set up than it probably should’ve been.

I think I'm not commenting anything new, seeing the comments, but I think that a factor into the idea of dropping the nuke first is that in that world everybody already suspected that nuclear escalation was not a matter of "if" but of "when" (with the weatherman in episode 1 being unable to even keep a happy face for his segment), so I guess that to some extent the idea of let's partner up, prepare for apocalypse, then light the fuse and hunker down is not that absurd. By the way I don't remember if it's mentioned in the show at any point, but the US, in their attempt to quench its thirst for more and more resources annexes Canada, I don't know how you feel about that haha

A fun little thing I know from playing the games. The Brotherhood of Steel used to be the most powerful force in the wasteland after defeating a faction called the Enclave. We heard a little about them in the show. Back then, A faction broke off from the brotherhood and were like "Hey what if we stop being evil and use technology to help the world?" But. After the Defeat of the enclave, the Brotherhood butted heads with the new up and comer of society out of Shady Sands, The New California Republic! (NCR for short) and the brotherhood actually LOST! probably because they were split. So... I wonder if the old man who wants to make a new brotherhood is from the faction that wants to help people. He seemed happy with loyalty and honor more than taking by force. Finally, if the people at the observatory were from Shady Sands, then The Brotherhood finally got their rematch against the NCR and won. And that just seems fun to me. I mean its all horrible but cool how war never changes huh.

When Moldaver says, "Your father is part of an organization that thought they had all the answers", that doesn't sound like Vault-Tec. Lucy doesn't need to be told who Vault-Tec is; it's literally written on her outfit. My suspicion is that The Enclave was puppeting Vault-Tec from within.

Moldaver's goal was the same in both time periods: To release cold fusion, infinite energy, to the masses. With that, the war for resources would end, as well as those profiting from said conflict.

In regards to them "Making money" The end-goal is power. With their vast resources, they can wait out the war frozen, then come back out and use data collected from Vault Research + a vast arsenal of gear to take over the wasteland and create essentially the ultimate monopoly.

Reading the comments, I've really got nothing to add to the conversation as a newbie myself to the Fallout world but I love that you're repping Barbados... although I was born in England, I lived in Barbados for about 7 years until I was about 8 years old and unceremoniously sent back ...stepping off that plane on a cold February U.K day was a shock to the system as I wasn't exactly dressed for this climate...! 🥶🥶 🥶🥶

Moldover's forces consisted of a number of Remnants of Shady sands, also of note, One of the Ghouls Lucy freed was seen among the refugees, so, seemingly they are more open minded than many. alas, the fallout world is one of shades of grey, with most of Vault-tech seeming to be a Very, Very Dark shade.

Muldaver was frozen like the rest of the vault tec people. She got unfroze with Hank probably, or in a seperate cryo situation but around the same time. She was a scientist, she discovered cold fusion, vault tec bought the company she worked for and shelved it. Because they cared about power and they couldnt control people if infinite power was on the table. It doesnt make her a saint, she was willing to kill to bring her vision of the world into reality just like Hank, just like vault tec. But yeah her vision was way better. Vault tecs CEO expained his motives, they werent money. Hope that answers some questions!

Moldaver's longevity seems to a question for season 2. We have had clues. Bud's plan to extend human lifespan, either directly or by cryo suspension. We have already seen the lifespan for mutants can be extended through drugs so common a snake oil salesman has to plead to sell it even though a side effect is ghoulism. What if Moldaver got the pure form so she didn't change like Cooper did? We also saw that stim packs can heal someone on the brink of death back to full health almost instantly, with Lucy and CX404. So biology seems pretty advanced. Sadly, Moldaver sustained too many injuries for even her advanced biology to recover from.

I feel like the show explained everything pretty thuroughly, like all mysterys and motivations where made clear and even the methods of how they where achieved. They showed people can survive in cryo stasis, so that explains Mouldaver. Also her goals where made clear in her meeting with Cooper pre war. Also she died cause she got shot, they show her bleeding in the scene, like how is that a mystery? They explained why the corporations wanted to wipe out humanity so that they would have 100% controll over the world that rises from the ashes. It's not about money but what that money means, controll. Of course the son wouldn't have woken up any of the frozen people, they are literally Buds (the brains) henchmen. They said Ghouls where mutants, so the mother mutated after being hit by the radiation of the bomb, they showed that there where other survivors as well. They said vault tec literally owned half of pre war America, we know they have nukes. Lastly, I don't get why Maximus is dumb for getting suckerpunched by a guy in power armor, like I get he is dumb but how was he dumb in that moment?

Hey Hannah, loved the video. Personal hot takes incoming... So I agree that I was left a little let down at the end of the series in no small part due to the somewhat muddled motivations of the principal parties, but I have a few ideas... So one thing that I think gets lost for Vault Tec is that they are not a company purely driven by money making purposes, but rather by ideology. They are true believers that they are an Enlightened Capitalist caste that are trying to create models of perfect, efficienct, controllable societies (hence the Vault experiments). One of the recurring motifs between both the Old World and the Post War world is this belief amongst those in power that they could truly make the world better if there wasnt anyone else in the way (Max: "everyone wants to make the world a better place, they just dont agree on how.") Vault Tec really does see the War as a potential for a great reset where they presume no human life could possibly survive outside of what populations they already control and they'd be free to impose their "Enlightened" world model. The investors, as fellow "Enlightened Capitalists" are similarly motivated by that ideology, and are investing so they have an opportunity to prove their particular society model as the best one through the Vault experiments. As for Moldaver, who knows what was up with that chick.

Given the question about how they make money, I can't help but think of CS Lewis who said that often people will think they are greedy, lustful, etc when really they're just proud, and "Pride gets no pleasure out of having something, only out of having more of it than the next man." So basically I see that meeting as a group of people who have already achieved everything that is achievable and are willing to torch the world, because owning 100% of a shack is better than owning 40% of a castle.

Maybe Moldaver was in love with Rose MacLean or maybe they were just friends and she couldn't bear to kill Rose in ghoul form (classic WALKING DEAD deal, unable to off the zombie version of a loved one). Bonus: It was a way to torture Hank once he was locked in his giant birdcage, seeing what happened to his wife.

Money is just a means to an end. Money brings power. Being the only advanced power post-apocalypse means power. So, it is power Vault-Tec wants, without all the grubby money stuff. Vault-Tec wasn't the only ones with cryo technology. That's most likely how Moldaver survived. As far as goals, she had developed cold fusion - the answer to a decade-long resource war that decimated most nations and led to the nuclear confrontation.

It should also be noted that Vault-Tech and the other companies represented at the prewar meeting were not friends. REPCONN, West Tek, Big MT and Rob-Co were all there to hear out the idea of "profit" but were mostly adversaries behind the scenes. Lured by the prospect of profit and power thinking they would be the top dog at the end of the war, not Vault-Tech. Kind of try to think about it like Game of Thrones, all these factions vying for a single seat of power, they will do anything to get there even if it means working with their enemy for a time.

If you want a recommendation for a show I'd suggest "The Legend Of Vox Machina." It's a D&D animated show made by a bunch of famous voice actors. It is.... Nothing like this show! It's an almost 1 to 1 rendition of their D&D game but told more... cinematic? Its an animation. Its an action adventure. Its got comedy and really REALLY gory scenes. If you like learning about how a fantasy world, and dragons, and magic, and vampires, and all that jazz. Its a fun ride. I find one of the most fun parts while watching it is learning what parts of the show were actually played and rolled for and if they happened because they failed or succeeded in doing something in the game. But its also just a fun story with wonderful characters! That or I want to see you watch Hereditary. I just saw it and it messed me up fam. Nothing to do with games but y'know YIKES!

I think the power part is true, but there' would be a lot of "deflation" (yeah it's stupid}) but they'd own almost all the world's money. "Yay! Vault-Tek now owns 47% of the entire world's cash!"

Also... I STILL am not 100% sure that Dane hurt themselves! Max never said, "I didn't do it!" Dane could have lied just to save his life! There were also little glances they shared to him in the infirmary like "Did you do this?" and when they told him they were scared to go into the wild... No they WEREN'T! We saw them at the start they were speechless! they were over the moon about it! It seems odd to have an easy "oh yeah I did it." be the end to that story.
