"False crack, medivac..." Omg! If you were doing this live, that would be a moment for you to pause let the audience regain composure. I had to rewind to hear what you said after that line cuz I could not stop laughing.

So funny! One time my friend wen visit me in wen I was living in Las Vegas. I had been on the mainland for several years and worked in an office at the university. He called me and so I answered in my business voice. He tells me, "Why you talk haole?" I had to laugh because lots of people say I have an "accent' which is my pidgin accent. I mix it up wen I talk to my haole husband and my hapa kids. But I gotta agree... talking pidgin is like a homing pigeon because as soon as you get together with another local, it just comes out.

Lol, my ex from Boston always reverted to his heavy Boston accent when he went home to visit friends.

Joy Hansen that’s for real. No good my husband was listening to me talk to my niece/ god sistah on da phone back home. When I got off the phone he asked what is the language u was speaking on the phone. Because that’s not how u talk when your on the phone at work. I told him it’s pidgin

I could listen to you all day brudda. Story for you. My wife lived Kona side as a local haoli back in the 70's. She and her first husband were looking to get a dog. They saw an ad in the paper that I am pretty sure was written by a native Hawaiian. It read, "dog for sale. Da kine grow big". Cheers from the so-called mainland and mahalo for your entertaining videos

Thanks for discussing the okina! It reminded me of when I was creating content for a boss not long ago, and it contained the word Hawai'i. He was quite concerned about the okina between the two "i"s and he wanted me to take it out. I refused, and tried to explain that the mark - as I understood it from visiting the Big Island several times - was an important pronunciation marker. He, never having been to Hawai'i, disagreed and he googled the word, saw on the top 10 hits didn't have the okina and that constituted proof for him that it was unimportant.
@AndyBumataiShow9 жыл бұрын
+mysandell ...and there in lay the problem. The ‘okina is considered a letter unlike the apostrophe.

You're right...your pidgin will always come back, and good reference to the homing pidgin. Da pidgin going always bring you home. Wen I come home and hear my family talk, I jump right in no shame...I let the pidgin fly. Good too yea that da family no try or no need talk haole to you. I found that pidgin from small kid time basically still da same, but also wen notice one difference in some new words like "cheeho". Growing up Neva hear dat one. Try do one skit about this. Is there a new pidgin from our kids? .

Funny how you got False Crack and Waianae in the same segment. I call that hoʻohenehene! First time I heard the word False Crack was back in the 70s. Ex classmate was telling bulai about why I left Catholic school for public. He said because I got false cracked. When I heard that I was like say what? Nobody hit me from the blind side at that school. I left because of the nuns was getting outta hand. And they no false crack, they hit you when you looking! The yardstick was the weapon of choice and my hand was the target! a hui hou nō sister mary elephant!
