My mom, from Lahaina, used to always cook enough for an army. She said there was nothing worse than running out of food. Better to have lots of leftovers for everyone to take to make plate lunch for the next day. Thanks, Andy, for reminding me of my roots. My dad was a Waipahu boy and you remind me so much of him...

When you talk about bringing food to someone's gathering…the person needs to be schooled in Aloha…I use the late, great Rell Sunn as my guide…she always say, "Aloha is giving…you give and you give and you give some more…you give from here (touching her heart) then you give from here (touching her stomach) and when you think you have no more to give, reach down and give a little more."

Now studying Hawaiian 'olelo and culture in order to apply for a teaching job in the public system in Oahu.Came across your material yesterday, and would like to thank you for putting out such comprehensive and informative material in the most elegant and humorous manner. Bradda Andy highlighted food.... this is a huge thing. Food brings us all together, young & old, friends and yes family. Notice Andy says, bring enough for 10 or at least 6 !!! . And if you host at your place.....make enough for family, friends to take home. Peace & Mahalo

Andy, I really enjoyed this segment. Besides making me real hungry, it got me thinking about other Local customs, like Omiyage, when speaking of food & what to do. Maybe you could do a show on some of the more important Local customs that many newer folks (see, I used "folks) do not know, or the younger kids may have forgotten. Mahalo for keeping it real and honest. That's the best part of your show. Aloha.

The way you describe putting stuffs on your food sounds like where I grew up-Pennsylvania Dutch country. When working for a local familly in Pearl City, they used to bring stuffs in for me to try and eat.
