I am a tour guide and have driven Hana tours on Maui starting back in 2001. I have been asked almost all these questions lots of times. I laughed so hard watching this and made my husband and kids come watch cause sometimes they almost no believe when I tell em what my passengers ask me. When the cruise ship used to go Molokai and then come Maui, and I picked up the people to take them Hana, some tour guide over there had messed with the people so much they would ask me things so crazy I almost crack up, crash the bus. Whoever it was would tell them and then they ask me, "oh that's the pineapple tree!" When I point out the Hala tree. And "where is the tunnel to Honolulu? They told us it was on Maui." Had so much people ask me "Where can we go to see the humpback whales come up on the beach and make love?", I finally just told people "It's hard to predict.". Then people would say also, "Oh look! That's the bydahroada plant our tour guide showed us on Molokai, and they no get why I laugh. I almost herniated myself I laugh so hard couple times. My all time favorite though was a lady from Alabama - she had the smallest bladder in the history of the world and couldn't wait for the next restroom stop, everywhere we went she ask for the paper towels to go find a bush - one place we went I told her, hey wait be careful in there cause get crab spiders spin their webs between the trees over here - she turns around and says "I didn't know you could get crabs from spiders!". I could probably write a book all the crazy questions I get asked.

Your last question reminded me of many years ago when my wife and I lived in Palolo Valley and would shop at Star Market in Kahala Mall every Wednesday and would see Jack Lord there every week. He would always wear a big straw hat and large sun glasses. He also looked about 20 years older than he did on TV. Gone but not forgotten.

I was a museum guide at Queen Emma Summer Palace back in my college days and I once had a visitor argue with me that Hawai'i was not a state. We were a TERRITORY! I asked him how many states were in the union and he proudly said "50!" and so I asked him what was the 50th state? He quickly answered, with conviction, "Alaska!". I gave up.

Hate to admit this but the stupid question came from myself. I was just about 20 and about to move to Hawaii from my home in Detroit. So after 12 years of education in Detroit public schools I thought I was fairly smart. I asked my Detroit homie who was already living in Hawaii. “Do I need to get a Hawaiian dictionary. and study the language?” She said don’t be silly , they speak English here. Then I got off the plane and introduced to group of locals who were speaking anything but English. Or so I thought. My introduction to Pidgin. I lived almost 40 years there and it is. more my home than Detroit. Most locals including my bestie who is Hawaiian/Portagee thought I was Portagee. Hey, that was easier than being a haole from the mainland.

I would look at them with stink eye like what?? One thing that was always fun to do, pigeon talk and Hawaiian words, they looked at me with blank faces, huh? It's so funny when they asked if the islands were tiny, had paved roads and highways but the one they asked? How did the islands get there? Ummmm, under sea volcano eruptions over a very long, long, long time...

(No- they get a motel 6 room), #2 - What elevation are we at (sea level - see?), #3 - Can we drive closer to the sunset? (my favorite) -- also gave me the "is there water on the other side of this island" one too... Thanks again and your pigeon site brings me back home!
