It has a role and frailty problem in the context of VGC. Yes, it has good offensive stats. Yes, it has a diverse movepool. Yes, it's a good overall Pokemon. Unfortunately, it's only ever added to the pool of legible Pokemon when box legendaries are also legible (until maybe the addition of Gen 4 remakes). By this time, however, it is now powercrept by non-legendaries who either performs its possible roles better, have better typing, have better stats, perform extra roles/utility, or a combination of the previous reasons. I like off-meta Pokemon but whenever I think of roles/niches that my strats need, Azelf never comes up into my top 5 considerations and I'm sure pros think the same...

decided to do the math for this. so far, 304 unique pokémon have been covered on this channel. excluding the revealed gen 9 starters, that's 304/905, leaving another 601 to go. HOWEVER, False Swipe has released remakes on Chansey/Blissey, Charizard, Skarmory, Scizor, Dragonite, and Tauros due to early videos basically ignoring the other tiers beyond OU. so we're likely due to see remakes on the other two gen 1 starters, snorlax, and plenty of others who didn't really have a fair shot in their videos. so at the rate of 1 video per week, it'd take him a little over 11½ years to cover all the current pokémon. nintendo generally comes out with the next gen every 3-4 years, with the next one right around the corner. 113 pokémon have been added per gen on average. So, taking these factors into account, we can estimate that ~440 pokémon will have been added by the time he's done the current 905, if he plans to do this for the next decade lmao.

I didn't know these pixies were high up there as a fan favorite trio. Personally I was disappointed with them because they're all the same type. Kind of up for debate if it's worse than Mespirit or not. Based on Mespirit's video and previous episodes with Gen 4 UU, Uxie seemed better then. My favorite thing to do with Azelf in Gens 6 and 7 was to use it as a Ferrothorn lure, since I often otherwise struggled with the damn spiky UFO. Luckily, Azelf learns Flamethrower, and even in Gen 6/7 was usually expected to use Explosion, or even better, I'd demonstrate the psychic portion of a more traditional offense set. This made it extremely common for my opponents to quickly toss in Ferrothorn as a supposed means to shut down Azelf via setting seeds, but it was in that turn that I would instead drop the spicy surprise and melt the damn thing out of existence. It should come as no surprise that Azelf has been my favorite pixie ever since.

While BDSP didn't give Azelf anything, interestingly enough it actually became quite the dominant force in Gen 8 UU by the time that metagame ended. The fact that it outsped and easily threatened mons such as Keldeo helped a lot.

Here's an idea for a pretty meta breaking ability: It's simple. It's an ability that ignores enemy item affects. Got choice scarf? Sorry. In the face of this pokemon you're still slow. Got eviolite? Sorry, but your free trial of life has expired.

@@obinnanwakwue5735 yeah. I could just imagine a really cool alternate form or mega (If they ever return) that was built by like an old champion that used it to cheat by having it suppress items. Just seems like a cool idea.

@@macaronGirl376 Maybe it can be an held item 2 block other items. Also, would that work on items that changes forms like Rusted Sword/Shield, G-Orb, Mega Stones, etc.?

In gen 6 UU, I would run an Anti-Anti-lead Azelf with Magic Coat. For how gimmicky it was, it gave rocks and denied my opponent's Azelf rocks and it did it pretty consistently

Something just occurred to me, explosion wasn't used as much after it was nerfed to not halve the target's defense, but usually the ideal use of explosion was to one hit KO a Pokémon or at least put a huge chunk in it. Unless its damage was nerfed as well, the main downside of it should be when it's used against a Pokémon that shrugs off the damage. There's no benefit of a knocked out Pokémon getting its defense halved, and any being brought down to less than 1/4 HP should easily get KO'd without lowered defense.
@avongarde87043 жыл бұрын
Explosion halved the defense within damage calculation as opposed to lowering the defense after the move

Had no idea Explosion (and self-destruct but who cares about that) halved the enemies defence stat. It truly was a stupidly designed move since the beginning
