Awesome video, Leslie! Thank you for sharing this recipe, I am going to be making this! It looks so delicious. I tear my lettuce as well, and when I worked at the bagel shop, they told us don’t use a knife to cut the core off. Bang it down on the counter top and pop the core out. Even my beloved Mom didn’t know that lol I love you guys, God bless you all 🤗❤️🙏

Miss Leslie. Your macaroni yum yum looks yummy. My mom was 100% Italian and her dad was from Italy. We have always added oil to our pasta water and we still do It’s just fine to do that and we add sugar to our spaghetti gravy too. I was taught the same to tear the lettuce so it doesn’t get brown from cutting it. Thank you for sharing your delicious recipes as always. The grand babies are getting so big and they are adorable. You have a beautiful family. ❤Charlene

I was always taught to tear to because it's supposed to turn the lettuce brown but I have been cutting lettuce with a sharp knife for decades now and it doesn't seem to have any effect on it.😊 But it's always good to remember what our mama's taught us❤

That is what we call Johnny Marzetti! My mother in law and sister in law gave me the recipe when we first got married. It came from Lazarus in Columbus ohio. We don’t had cheese and bake but do add extra Parmesan when served. I add to my plate cayenne pepper. With the cheese you added it made me think of farmer jones that the school here serves. My girls loved it and we don’t have a recipe for it. It was nice to see everyone!!

Our Pastor Appreciation Day is this Sunday and we are having a covered dish meal after service. This looks like what I will take! Our pastor has been at our church for 40 Years preaching the Word with no apologies. We have a loving congregation, as well. Blessed, indeed! I stopped buying Ranch dressing years ago and always make mine, and always with Buttermilk. My family would be offended if I didn’t. I know that you love feta. Sometimes I add crumbled feta or bleu cheese to the dressing. 😋

Leslie, putting oil in the pasta water keeps the sauce from permeating and clinging to the pasta. Just give your pasta a quick rinse when you drain it and it won't glob together.

I was also taught to tear lettuce, which I do, but I also have a plastic knife with ridges called a lettuce knife and it does a nice job when I don't take the time to tear it or have a big head of lettuce. We weren't supposed to say gross, etc., either. I. have a friend who told her child to eat what was cooked for her because mom wasn't a short order cook!

My mom always made this, but we just called it Goulash and she did not put green pepper or Italian Seasoning, just seasoned it with salt and pepper. It was my dad's favorite supper, but he always said he felt like he hadn't eaten since it was not meat, potatos and gravy.

I was one of those moms... It sure does come in handy because my kids aren't picky eaters and life is sooo much easier. My daughter just got married and her hardest struggle is her husbands mom wasn't that way. He not only doesn't eat most things, but what he does eat is very expensive. My daughter told me the other day she is so glad I raised her that way. She expressed that his pickiness makes something so simple, very complicated and takes the joy of food out. She is hoping to raise her children with you eat what is cooked

When I was reading your description and read that you never make this dish the same way twice, you make it based on what you ohave on hand, I thought to myself, sounds like how my mom made goulash growing up. It was always delicious but never the same way! I then looked at the recipe and noticed that it looks very similar to mom's goulash. Then when you said your family calls this macaroni yum-, yum or goulash or whatever your family called it, I had to chuckle. It was like you read my mind with your narration!

Tearing lettuce lets it come apart at their natural fault lines and it ruptures fewer cells that lead to premature browning. Personally I use Spinach or Romaine lettuce. I prefer the flavor & health benefits. I don't care for the taste of hot tomatoes so use sauce or paste instead but do often use baking soda to cut the acidity. Enjoy every moment of the chaos you can! Nothing compares at all to family love!

A very sharp knife vs hand tearing makes no difference. The key is the sharpness of the blade and a thin blade. Our kids were a little picky, one had problems eating red meat and raw tomatoes and one couldn't stand mustard or sharp cheese. But ate everything else without a problem.

Waste not want not ❤. I always add brown sugar to my goulash and my chili. I Always tear my lettuce. If I have baby spinach, I add that, grated carrots, and colored peppers, NEVER green peppers. They have way too much of a stronger flavor. I slice onion thin and tomatoes but I always put them on a small plate. Not everyone likes onion and tomatoes, but I always have shredded cheddar cheese in a bowl so everyone can add as much as they want

Looks yummy, 1 thing I always do with ground beef, always do, is when browning it I had 2 cups or so of water, cover it and let it simmer with onions and peppers and seasonings. Sometimes when that boils out I had more and do it again because an elderly I went to church with told me to. We were talking and the one thing I do not like from ground beef is sometimes the meat is chewy and tough and she said to do that, it stews it a little. I don't do it if it is going in crockpot because it will stew anyway but since doing this, the flavor is so much better, especially in things like tacos and stroganoff and casseroles. The flavors enhance and I know it takes a little more time but everyone always asks me what I do different and you can tell. When I cook, it is with love and I pour all I can into my family meals. You can even do a bunch ahead of time when you have time and freeze it in 1 pound portions.

If you want to avoid adding processed sugar, finely dice some fresh carrot and cook it with the onion and pepper. It's all natural, and the sweetness is more subtle so you're not in danger of getting it too sweet. I love using carrot in place of white sugar.

I think everyone has their family version of goulash. I make mine almost identical to yours. Question: awhile back I heard you mention you are taking a break from dieting for awhile. Do you have a set amount of time that you take a break? I did that for about 6 months but lately the scales have started to creep back up. So today I fixed your recipe for the taco pie frittata. And a green salad…every vegetable I could find in my vegetable drawer. We haven’t eaten the pie yet but it looks yummy…I added to it…because I always do that…so to the hamburger I added onion/garlic/ minced green chilis/ olives and cilantro…just can’t help myself!! I have been searching…do you have more keto recipes? I typed in keto recipes on your site but I can’t find anything. God bless you for sharing with us!
