Dang, that hit hard: "The qualities that I hate in somebody else, are the same qualities that I hate in myself" "It's easy to see someone as evil when they're hurting your feelings" - some wise words right there... PREACH!

Loved the conversation. Wish Khalif had more talk about his family and his point of view more. He's got a very interesting story.

Some people have a crazy loyalty to their family. My wife was pretty much brainwashed by her mother and would always help out her brother, no matter how blatantly they would take advantage of her

22:34 my friends and I knew a guy kind of like her. He would try to start rumors just so he looked like a martyr, while the other person was falsely dragged through the mud. Eventually, people would find out it was bullshit. And he's really stupid, so his lies would be so ridiculous that it would be out of character for that person. Sometimes, he would tell two different people very different things and it would turn out those two people are friend that actually talk to each other. If my friends and I saw his true nature pretty early on, it won't be long for everyone else to. The people that stay only tolerate him because he gives them drugs (and some of them hate him). It's the only way he can make the closest thing to "friends."

32:00 Talking about how they never got any warmth or love from *anybody* puts it into perspective.... even for me, I was at least loved by friends, teachers, mother, and other adults if not by my father so I LEARNED how to treat people properly by receiving tons of love. If he never even received that his whole life... damn I can kind of understand why he would be the way he is. Everyone has to get it from somewhere else first to be able to give it.

I feel the whole thing with the emotional flipping Joe was talking about with his friend. Its terrifying. Flipping between screaming and being nice. You don't trust people when they're calm. You don't know when the switch will flip.

Khalif is one of my favorite guests. Need to see him more on this podcast.
@TubeDeviant5 жыл бұрын
I agree, you guy Khalif needs to speak more on his experiences. He didn't say anything for the first half of the podcast.. Anyways, I have a lot of dysfunctional shit in my family. Don't know where to start.. The family did fall apart after my grandmother passed and it was her who brought and kept the family together. She would cook family dinner every week and my aunts and cousins would come over.. Anyways, us kids saw what a functioning family (for the most part was), but the adults allowed that to fall apart over financial disagreements after my grandmother passed. Typical. We didn't see each other for the longest time, so I guess it was cutting people out. Of course, the family was never the same after that even though the "adults" (we're all adults now..) see each other on certain occasions like birthdays.. Not even Christmas or Thanksgiving like before.. And that affected every relationship in the entire family. I despise them for that. So in that sense, the family did fall apart and people cut each other out, but not completely. For myself, I would say that is accurate. I can't stand the shit that they talk about so I only hang with the one cousin (out of like 16..) that I grew up with.. A whole lot more to the story, that's for sure.. Just scratching the surface.

could you please talk more about cutting off family? especially immediate family and by association, extended family. confront or not to confront if there is no point. it has been a rough few years with emotions, not all good.

Shit I gotta tell my mom that, cause I’m a Japanese American not a full Japanese kid. She expects me to be like “yes mama, I’m at fault, allow me to give you a shoulder massage and never cuss you out when you accuse me of things I didn’t do”, but I’m half American, I say “go die” when shit gets heated (and the kicker is she does too). I thought I was just a piece of shit, but I feel less alone.

My dad is very similar, he was born in Mexico and my grandmother and grandfather moved to California for work and left him with my great grandmother. He has 5 siblings all girls who are much older then him so he didn't grow up with anyone else but my great grandmother. He is a good dad not a great one bc of his emotional and verbal abuse and the fact that he is not connected to myself or my siblings. We recently had a conversation where he told me "your child you argue with the most turns out identical to you" and I tried to explain to him how I will correct the mistakes you made when I have kids but my kids will find something in me that they dont like and correct it and it will just be a constant cycle but he so arrogant he doesnt agree with me. I geuss only time will tell

My father haa and had a fall out with me, grandfather and his two brothers. They yet haven't mended the relationship and with my grandfather will never be mended. My father and i spoke and has told me that my grandfather and two of his brother are dead to him. And i had mended my relationship with my father but it's weird to talk to him since i haven't seen him for over a decade. So it seems he cut them off and we cut off each other for awhile I really don't like cutting people from my life but if it's necessary it would had to be
