Two of my kids have always shared a bedroom. It's not a giant room, but it's much bigger than their older brother's and my rooms. Now that they're 16 and 14, it's a bit crowded for them. You are so right about needing space, especially teens! We live in an 800 sq ft place and I've been looking into making my livingroom into two rooms, so that I can give then their own rooms. It would be a small room, but at this point my 14 year old would take anything! Lol He's lost hope that my 20 year old will ever move out! He's been saving money, but the rents in our area don't match the wages...even with a roommate. It's part of why I watch these videos. If they make them legal in more places, maybe it would be a better option for him.

This is one of the best designs I have seen so far in tiny houses. - People can stand in every space, perfectly designed. - Lots of storage in every individual space. - Not cramped or suffocating at all.
@CarrieGerenScogginsOfficial3 жыл бұрын
The 2 smaller bedrooms are set up as what is called a "walk beside bed," and the best design from the older 1950's 2 story mobile homes.... Like your builder's version, as usually it is a living room on the bottom, and where the lower bedroom has a build in bed, it would have been with a built in couch, and the upstairs over it would be a bedroom. The old mobile homes, 1953 Ventoura, The 1953 Lighthouse Duplex, and the Heinz 2 story mobile home, all came with the walk beside bed upstairs. I had hoped that the new mobile homes would begin to bring in this design, only in a 14 ft by 70 model, which would give a single wide space for 4 bedrooms, all of livable size.

@CarrieGerenScogginsOfficial , I had to check out what that was you were talking about. I never knew they built 2 story mobile homes. How as times moved forward. I always thought (shows how sheltered I was) mobile homes didn't come out until the 90s, then went from that to manufactured homes to pop up two level manufactured homes, from rvs to vans people lived in fulltime to tiny homes. Interesting how they attempted to build a 2 story or split level mobile homes back in the day.

Even when they share a room it is always helpful to do as you say. I have always talked to and with my children, included them in what is going on in our house. My parents were this way with me. It gives kids a sense of control in their own lives and helps to curb behavior problems. Children should always be heard and seen. Treat your children respectfully and you will earn their respect in return. We talk about everything. My kids know that they can talk to me about anything. They will always get a fair and honest, response from me. When I do get angry, I always try to explain why and apologize if I've over reacted. They do the same in turn with me. Is everything perfect? No, but these kids come to me or a sibling that sends them to me, instead of getting bad information on whatever subject from friends.

I would make some slight tweaks, but only very slight (like I would probably arrange the bathroom a little differently). I love how they comment on the tiny house community. I think it takes a certain mindset to go tiny, so no matter how different they all are, they definitely have some priorities in common. I love the "community" aspect of this build/tiny home. The kids are going to feel supported in this lifestyle and eventually realize that getting along with others -- no matter what your values or politics -- is a clear path ahead for living. For a short time - 2 years - me and my daughter (age 9 - 11) lived in an apartment complex where everyone was close. Her friends lived there. My friends lived there. It was communal without being too much.... hard to describe... but it's made her a better member of whatever "village" she's a part of! To this day.

The alternative to a tiny house would then be an apartment.. literally neighbors on top of you, below you, and sharing side wall(s). We came from an apartment and now live in a tiny house at this community and it is a million times quieter. Just something to ponder. I’m not sure why so many people are so thrown off by parking your tiny house closer to other tiny houses but then forget the vast amount of people live in apartments stacked on top, below, and beside neighbors.

one of the problems I always see with tiny home builds for families are what to do with the children. Also like the good amount of storage, without every spare space being filled with cupboards and drawers. The home feels spacious and uncluttered without being sparse or minimalistic. They've created a great family home!

Beautiful family and home. Thank you for sharing. The filming of this episode was perfect. I hope their kids also grow up to think living tiny with intention is normal. What a great neigborhood too.

Absolutely fabulous layout...thank you so much for sharing your home. My all time favorite tiny house for a family was one with separate sleeping spots for all, but it just got bumped to second place since viewing this one...This is definitely my number one family layout. I'm gobsmacked at the fact that everyone has standing room...wow...Love Love Love it. Many happy years ahead. (And in regards to your thoughts of maybe things changing when they are teens...nope...that is still a perfect "home" for all of you, regardless of age)

Never thought about the "community" aspect. Thank you for sharing that.

i love that they’re kids have their own individual space. Have two kids very different in age (17 & 3) that’s my biggest concern. I feel like i’d be punishing them by forcing them to go tiny too, but i think having their own cool spaces like this, it might make it exciting. We would absolutely have to go toward the larger square footage of tiny homes, but this gives me hope it could work.

27 and 3? You sure that that isn’t a typo? I’m just really curious…. 😁
