I work with special needs kids in my classroom as a kindergarten teacher. This broke my heart in so many ways. His simple statement of "I miss him" spoke volumes. To take a dad away from any child is unthinkable... I just don't know how these families have survived a day after this, let alone 4 years. I lost a son too - but it was nothing like this.... he wasn't murdered. It is in his memory that I teach, and that I give my love to other little ones. Keeping my kids safe is on my heart and my mind every morning as I unlock my classroom door. This is the reality of school shootings... the ripples affect so many other people and the devastation is real. My thoughts should be geared towards getting through to my students academically and not how to hide them and protect them if someone came into my school to hurt them. This just breaks my heart.

I’ve been a high school coach for about 20 years I started my first year out of high school. Having an athletic director like Chris Hixon is a absolute blessing. The impact that someone like him has on his students, teachers and community is immeasurable. The death sentence is absolutely appropriate here. So many broken people as the result of one person's action. And again...that poor jury....
