Always loved family reunions. By the time I was 40, everyone had passed away in my family-young and old - I'm 62 now. Miss those get-togethers and catching up so much. The games and conversations were epic.

I loved hearing about this so much! Iowa family here! 🙋♀️ My dad was one of 12 kids, and I am the oldest of 41 grandkids. We held our 33rd annual family campout this year, and my heart resonates with all of this because it is also a treasured tradition for our family. It is impossible to get all 180+ of us all together at once, but every year brings some of the same people and some from different states. To God be ALL the glory for helping us keep this tradition alive! Thanks for sharing! ❤

I have always been big into family gatherings. My favorite holidays are Thanksgiving and Christmas due to the memories I have from childhood of being with extended family. As an adult I yearn to have the close knit ties and activities like a reunion or extended family vacation. I recently talked to my Aunt (mom's sister) about starting something like this. It's getting everyone on board. I am a planner so this would come naturally for me.

My moms gen and my gen grew up always being around family and gatherings and I have so many memories with my cousins. But now the family has gotten so big and it’s so hard getting people together. Everyone lives in different places and are always busy. So my nieces and nephews gen aren’t growing up around their cousins like I did and I wish they could. I’m glad you are giving your children the gift of being around family. Cousins are your first friends besides siblings.

My husband's family does this every year. A family reunion in June with usually about 150 people. The reunion program is on the Saturday but its at a state park so most people stay at least 3 nights. There is a pool area, softball field, a small lake. We also do cornhole and have a dj on Saturday night. There is a "program" complete with door prizes, patriotic sing a long (lol), pictures and of course food! It is so unique and uncommon and I am so thankful for it. 😊

I really enjoyed your podcast on family reunion ❤ You are so fortunate to have such a loving family who gets along and enjoys getting together for reunions. Such a blessing! I grew up with the same type of close nit family but unfortunately one of my brothers married a woman who keeps him away from the existing family he still has, it is so sad to not have that relationship with him anymore. I have tried to instill the family closeness into my own children and can only hope they will continue loving each other and passing that bond down to their own children as well and for future generations!

I don’t have a huge family but i have been trying to get my family to do this. You guys stated in the beginning how rare it is that you all over each other and I think it is because of this tradition. If people did this more often they would have a stronger connection.

I think it’s so beautiful! Our family isn’t that large on my dads side but we have an impromptu reunion in 2 weeks and as far as I know almost everyone is going and I’m so excited!! Indiana family here🙋🏻♀️My family and I have a family reunion every labor day. This year was year 13 for us! We started it for my great grandma’s 90th bday. She passed 2 years ago just before her 100th - so now it’s called (Her first name)fest. But we still get together! There’s a total of 64 of us now - 68 in the next year through marriage and babies. Not everyone can make it each year but it’s always so sweet when we get back together!! If you establish it and people are devoted to it, it’ll continue on:)

My mom's family has been doing family reunion vacations semi-annualy for 30 years. For the first one, we rented an entire ski lodge. We have mostly held them at Christian camps. We look for places with huge lodges with large meeting rooms. They have been planned by 2 siblings in my mom's generation, but they are getting older. Just like Andrew's family, we decided at this year's gathering that it is time for the next generation to take over. Watching my 21 year old son interacting with my cousins kids was an amazing experience. I am super excited to help plan the next one.

My grandparents had 9 children and 28 grandkids. Every other year we get together (there are only 2 of the “kids” still alive, and the “grandkids” are in their 60’s and 70’s). The third, fourth, and even fifth generations of our family attend, and there are from 125-150 of us there. We only get together for a one-day event, but it is something we look forward to. Family is the best!

We do a family reunion every two years. This past summer we celebrated 75 years. There are now 5 generations. This year we had 120 people and we were missing about 50. It is usually a week long and it is the best time ever!
@smpugel1Ай бұрын
Can I ask if you do this at the same place (set location) or do at different places? We do a similar thing - ever 2 years and have around 75 people. We are always looking for a new location for ours and looking for recommendations for next one as I am on the planning committee for it. 😁
@JasmineLovelandАй бұрын
@@smpugel1 We do it at a different location every reunion. It is usually a week long. We usually have them at a Christian camp. We have had them at YMCA camps as well. This past year, we had it at Natchez State Park in TN. They had a lodge, cabins and camping available. It is getting harder to find a place that can accommodate as out family gets bigger. It started with my great grandparents and their four kids.

@brittneyemerson2079Ай бұрын
I went to a similar family reunion once (friend of one of the family members) and when you arrived to the gathering you checked in and got a name tag. On the tag was your name... of course... and Also a “code” if you will that told you where in the family tree you were. So as you are saying G1,G2,G3.... the name tag would be G2/2:1:4: C(F). Meaning your branch stemmed from the second child in Generation 2. The 1st child of generation 3, the 4th child of gen 4, and you are the 3rd (C) child... (F) friend of that child. Or “S” for spouse. It was cool because as a “stranger” you could look at their tag and know where in the tree their branch stemmed from. As the next generation takes over this is fun/important because you are getting exponentially bigger and not everyone will be able to attend and you have a sign in record as to who was able to attend each year and interact with distant branches of family.
