Just gotta add for those who are allergic to Worcestershire sauce because it has anchovies fish ~ all they add is salt ~ use soy sauce if you want that same flavor without the fish because I'm allergic to fish and every time I hear a recipe that calls for and a dash of Worcestershire sauce please just use soy sauce. Because those of us that are allergic can have a really bad reaction to that sauce that you think is not a big deal but it is a big deal. This recipe sounds so good other than the Worcestershire sauce so I'm definitely going to be giving this one to try!💜💜💜

Thanks Cheryl, just made it for tea just now, wow that was absolutely delicious. Thanks for the awesome posts. I’m here on Cape Cod, in Massachusetts US, originally born and raised in Dublin until I was 30 (now 56) and miss these meals my ma used to make. I’m loving your channel as I’m introducing my kids to how it used to be for me growing up 😉 cheers oh and one last thing, we use lbs and ounces over here, if it is at all possible that you could include these in you measures that would be great, if you can, if not no worries I’ll just look it up 👍

I made a version of one of these last night for tea but didn't know it was called a Cumberland pie - you learn something new every day! I just thought I was jazzing up the top of my cottage pie! I say I made a version of this because I had some leftover peas and about a teaspoon of tomato paste that I added in my filling. It was absolutely lovely.

Looks delish! Its similar to how I make my own shepherd's/cottage/Cumberland pie except I add one or two crushed cloves of garlic and a good dollop of tomato puree.

I was just wondering if some sort of tomato could be added. I was thinking ketchup or tomato paste. I'm from the U.S. so I like to have ketchup on my ground/minced beef.

We regularly make Cumberland Pie. All of our kids have grown up and left home by now, but if they hear we're making a Cumberland Pie, they'll suddenly find an excuse to visit. Our Cumberland pie recipe varies from the one here in a number of aspects: For one, we exclusively use minced lamb (the kids expect it!) We usually add a few more veggies into the meat layer: little bits of cauliflower, diced carrot & diced swede, together with the chopped onion. We mix a decent quality cream cheese into the mash, and our topping includes chopped fresh parsley as well as the breadcrumbs and grated cheese; (we use crumbly Lancashire rather than Cheddar, but that's just because that was the cheese used in the recipe we first found, years and years ago.

I could this right now, I love making cottage pie, not keen on shephards pie as I'm not keen on lamb mince. I do my mince in the slow cooker first because I like alot of thick-ish gravy from the juices. Looks right up my street this does 😋😋

@WhatsForTea5 жыл бұрын
Of course! :) if they're fresh peas, I would add them at the same time as the carrots...but if they're frozen or cooked peas...pop them in 5 minutes before your mince is ready to go into the oven.

Sooo, apparently I've been making Cumberland/cottage pie? The reason I say it that way is because I've always used cheddar cheese on top, but unfortunately, we have to leave off the panko (or any breadcrumbs, really) because my hubby has to deal with the carbs in the mashed potatoes. Cheryl (and anybody else) can correct me accordingly (but we're still going to enjoy it, no matter what it's called LOL!)
