Cumberland Pie

Cumberland pie is a peculiar dish. It comes from the old county of Cumberland in north-west England. Cumberland is now part of Cumbria. The pie itself is very similar to cottage pie and shepherd's pie, but the main difference is that Cumberland pie has a crunchy crust of breadcrumbs and cheese on top of the mashed potato. The meat in a Cumberland pie can be beef or lamb, and it can be minced or in cubes. Whatever you choose, it's delicious.

Before I immigrated to California from Manchester in 1981, my Grandmother and Greataunt used to say a "splash" for a measure of anything when cooking. Now you say "sploosh" . Am I to believe that is the metric version of "splash"? Please Keef, inquiring cooks want to know! :) love your videos.

If I recall correctly, "sploosh" is the neuter nominative form, whereas "splash" is the feminine nominative. So the declension runs as follows: splish, splash, sploosh; splushus, splushus, splushus; and so forth.

Ey up our lad our goer Keef Cooks! Just watched yer video on Cumberland Pie, Keef. Proper enjoyed it, I did. Tha's reyt about it bein' a bit different from cottage pie an' shepherd's pie with that crunchy breadcrumb an' cheese crust. It looks champion with that golden top! Love how tha showed both minced and cubed meat options-proper versatile, that. Grand job, lad. Can’t wait to give it a go meself. Cheers!

Thanks for that info. Jolly Posh Foods in the US might have it. I know they have HP sauce, not sure about Henderson’s.

@@kevinbyrne4538 You’re welcome. I’ve had one order from them and everything has been absolutely delicious and top quality. I’m an American though so can’t make a proper comparison taste wise to the real thing such as sausages etc., but have been to the UK and LOVE the food.

Sausage mad? I work in a care home and on the menu one day was 'Toad-in- the-Hole.' The African staff saw the menu and couldn't understand why the british eat toads!
