I'm glad Chris Evans and Chris Pratt both signed on with Marvel. When the first Captain America film came out, Evans was the only reason I watched it. Everybody knows him as Cap now but the roles he's taken that are nothing like Cap show what a great actor he is. Cap has the potential to be as off-putting as Superman but Evans brings a humanity to the role that makes it relatable for the rest of us. Also, I don't know why, I'm just a really big fan of Chris Evans.
@dhenderson18106 жыл бұрын
I though Chris Evans' reason would be because he already played a Marvel hero- the Human Torch in the "Fantastic Four" films, and the failure of that might have turned him off doing hero roles in the future.

As popular and iconic the Star Wars franchise is, even today the movies are still looked down upon by many japanese who are prideful about their culture. So is no surprise Toshiro Mifune refused those roles, and I don't think he had any regrets about it. Even some anime series are heavily looked down upon by conservative japanese for diminishing the Samurai legacy, so to have an american director trying to take influence in that legacy for "some sci-fi movie" that had the potential of looking cheap was simply insulting at that time. I have a lot of respect for the movies, but is easy to understand why A-level actors such as Toshiro Mifune would refuse such roles with ease, despite the money loss.

Don't forget Double Indemnity (1944), where the role of Walter Neff was turned down by Alan Ladd, James Cagney, Spencer Tracy, Gregory Peck, Fredric March and even George Raft! Fred MacMurray (who at first thought would seem to be entirely unsuited for the role) was reluctant too and told director Billy Wilder "You're making the mistake of your life!" Playing a serious role required acting, he said, "and I can't do it." Wilder kept at him until he finally agreed to play the part. Later, MacMurray said "I never dreamed it would be the best picture I ever made!" and worked with Wilder again in an off-character role in the Oscar-winning film The Apartment (1960).

It wasn't just Jude Law and Josh Hartnett who both turned down the role of Superman. Ashton Kutcher also turned down the role due to scheduling conflicts with 'That '70s Show' and the fear of both typecasting and the Superman Curse. David Boreanaz auditioned for the role as well but he too turned it down due to obligations to 'Angel'. And they weren't going for 'Superman Returns' - they were going for a different kind of Superman movie that sacrilegiously disregarded the original DC Comics mythology. In that script Krypton didn't explode and instead experienced civil war; meanwhile as Jor-El was going to be sentenced to prison he sent baby Kal-El on a rocket to Earth to fulfill a prophecy. That movie, as any superhero geek here I hope would remember was titled 'Superman: Flyby'. The script was written by J.J. Abrams who would later go on to reinvent 'Star Trek' and 'Star Wars'. And as we hate to admit it, that movie was gonna look terrible if it was ever made!

I'm sorry but personally I'm thinking it is just a movie, yes I know real life events do exist and of course it's personal choice but it's not as if the film is cursed, it's just an INCREDIBLE honest portrayal of some life events that are similar. Antony Hopkins is simply Mindblowing, incredible. The fact people got scared is surely a sign it's simply Superme acting. And Shame on Mark Whalberg. Sorry but I hope he's not serious by saying the scripts "Creepy," that's IGNORANT. Ultimately no offence the actors who did end up doing the movie are Excellent and Jeff Goldblum was Super in The Fly, just wish ending wasn't so tragic

Has George Lucas said "New Hope" was influenced by "The Searchers?" The fact that both movies feature two men trying to free a woman from captivity doesn't seem like much of a parallel. It was the Star Wars prequels that showed a "Searchers" influence, like the scene where Anakin tries to rescue his mother from the Sandpeople. And the ending of "Revenge Of the Sith" was a virtual replay of the ending of "The Searchers."

1. Oh well. 'Silence of the Lambs' won Hopkins & Fonda Oscarso; so they're probably thanking those actors (notably, Pfeifer & Irons). Jude Law❤️ - It's fine how things turned out. He's playing Dumbledore (Youngledore) 🌈 now anyway. Bette Midler - I'm glad how things turned out. Sister Act❤️ Denzel - I'm glad how things turned out. Morgan Freeman❤️

+Fantastic Beasts - Jodie Foster played the role and won the Oscar, not Jane Fonda!

Jude Law should play James Bond if given the chance!!!

You have failed to mention that perhaps an actor turns down a role because they have absolutely nothing in common with the character they're asked to play. A great actor at least needs to find something anything they can play off. If they know it will suck if they say yes, why would they do that to themselves and the audience.

NO! Normal people are not afraid of zombies, because normal people know zombies are not real.

The Ferrell movie got outrage from over sensitive people who couldn't handle that type of portrayal of their Saint Ronald Reagan.

Foster was actually never face to face with Hopkins on set. They shot at different times and didn’t even cross paths until well after shooting was over.

Adam Sandler deserved an oscar nomination fir Reign Over Me. It was a great film and he was surprisingly great in it.

Middler is afraid "playing a nun" will offend fans, but her social media hate for anyone not exactly like her doesn't? Weird.

Michelle Pfeiffer would have been brilliant.

Jodie Foster was brilliant in the role. Overall as an actress really. It would have been interesting to see Michelle Pfeiffer's take though. So you're saying Julianne Moore didn't do a good job so more likely Michelle Pfeiffer also wouldn't do the movie justice as well?! Totally two different actresses though. Not a compelling argument.

Foster was good and so was more as a replacement. Think about the movie Monster and How Charlize Theron transformed. We will never know Michelle Pfeiffer 's take on it. This is not to take away from Jodi Foster. she was brilliant.

I like more of those actors who rejected roles. But let's be real, we wouldn't change any cast for these great movies!

Whenever I see the scene in Guardians where Gamorra and Star Lord are fighting on the ground I just think about how much it must've hurt when she broke his rib during that scene.
