Rogan was so dead-on about the construction stuff. My dad ran a small residential construction biz for about 30 years and most of those regulations are super important. You can tell the difference when you live in a building or home that was built prior to 1980. There are some regulations that are nonsense but there are some that have made structures so much safer and better. Like one building code requires new houses/apts to have electrical outlets at least every 6 feet and they have to be plastic boxes. They used to use metal boxes, but metal boxes can pose a huge risk of a sparking wire or arc, which leads to house fires. And requiring a minimum amount of outlets make modern houses much more convenient to live in and prevents outlets from getting overloaded with too many plugs. And for framing, having studs and joists 16 inches apart makes a structure so much stronger than 24 inches, which was something that builders used to do. Rubin is so dumb...
@DahVoozel3 жыл бұрын
Rubin doesn't understand that construction companies want their projects *done*. How that happens is sometimes up to the interpretation of the contractors. Inspectors make sure those contractors don't take dangerous shortcuts.
@RustCole013 жыл бұрын
@@DahVoozel And also, a typical homeowner has no frikan clue how to judge the quality of construction work. I could watch the way a crew puts tyvek paper and tape around the outside of the house and have a good idea if it is done properly. But most people have no idea how that works and won't find out about a leak or a rotting area until 5 years later. A hack tradesman will never own up to doing bad work and usually it doesn't get discovered til years later, which is why we need building codes and inspectors and all that.

I have to say that the editing on the Scott adams piece was absolutely genius to the point that I’m not sure if he or she knew how good it was or if I’m making it up. 1) starting off by showing the clips of himself (Adams) establishing himself as a hypnotist 2) showing him give an example of hypnosis to his viewers, and mentioning that “somebody’s crying” in the comments of his video 3) explaining how trump exhibits similar skills to that of a hypnotist 4) finally, showing Adams slow disillusionment with trump, using similar hypnosis sound effects, and ending with the earlier clip, “Somebody’s crying”, subtly suggesting that Adams has been hypnotized himself by Trump the whole time. Wow that was great.

I've never been much of a fan of Rogan's work but around 2016 I really liked his takes. He was a great thing for the left back then. 1:41 Was the perfect person to put near the beginning of this video. Scott Adams' flip, made me _genuinely_ feel a twinge of sympathy for the republican voters that fell for all the maga bs... My parents included. It just makes an immense amount of sense... that these people have DEEPLY rooted mental issues. I grew up in the pre social media era. BUT, as a result of growing up WHILE it was developing, and not being allowed to partake in it until i was 17, I actually have a fairly grounded understanding of how it functions, and could recognize when it was negatively effecting me, and could pull back. However, my parents had no idea how it functioned, because they were in privileged spaces, and only used sm to grow their business. They were sucked into the algorithms without realizing what was happening. They then deleted their business twitter, when Trump was banned, on "principle." Naturally, they're second biggest business platform, was Facebook. Where they were ALSO outspoken on their own profiles. They lost family and friends first. But that ultimately lost them business as well, becauseof how closely tied theirbusiness is with their social lives... Rather than realizing that EVERY STEP they've taken as individuals, directly contributed to the lost business... They blamed the season. Covid. Censorship of conservatives. And ultimately now it's all somehow bidens fault... I love them and they love me, and I pay very close attention to politics. So I'm the only person in their lives that they're willing to engage with... At least, I was. A couple months ago, I was finally told by my mom that political opinions are no longer up for discussion. It was too harmful to her mental health... Devastated doesn't begin to cover how that felt. We've never had limits to what we could talk to eachother about before. Meanwhile she can still send me religious propaganda and songs, and its somehow MY fault if I make it political. 😮💨 It's discouraging AT BEST. The looks on their faces remind me of scotts in those post vids. I KNOW the path my parents are on, and they've effectively silenced my ability to help them. I feel so helpless. It's like they've literally acquired a terminal illness, and all I can do is watch them die. With every new hint of a qanon perspective they gain, we get further apart. You can't stay in touch with people who get so far gone. If anyone has any advice??? I'd really appreciate it... 🤍

I think his point is people need to be more realistic with how they talk to their audience. With the rhetoric they use they are 100% sure so why not take a bet? If there's any doubt there, then there is doubt in your position, so stop trying to play it off like you know for sure, cuz you don't.

What I was taught is that Hispanic is a term regarding language, that is, Spanish speaking, while Latino is an ethnicity.

Brazilians are Latino but not Hispanic; Spaniards are Hispanic but not Latino

Hispanic: Descended from Hispaniola (Spain). Latino: The Iberian (portugal included) cultural regional body which stretches from Mexico down to Argentina

Lol, in the Northeast they used to just call people Spanish even if they were from like Peru. I remember it being used commonly as recently as 2008.

The cover of “Win Bigley” looks like it could be an anti-Trump book. Either way it’s an aesthetically pleasing cover.

1:05 No, dropping a tarp large enough to envelop a skyscraper would be a logistical nightmare. I actually don't even know if it could be done. Regardless, it's an overly complex solution. The simpler solution would be to spray down the building with water. This is something that is already common in building demolitions.

Not to mention, a tarp thick enough to not tear on contact would be heavy enough to cause structural damage to the surrounding areas.

Dilbert was funny in the 1990's when Adams was not yet that far removed from his office experience in the 1980's. But it did not change and eventually it only spoke to people his age since what it referenced is not was worker drones today deal with.
@gamerman72763 жыл бұрын
If you think Dilbert is dry look up "The Dilbert Hole". There's only a few strips but it's made 100x funnier.
