Unfortunately they only allow one checkpoint per area/sub-area, so a maximum of two checkpoints in each level.

9:44 this level was not only great coz of platforming with bouncing shell, but all the additional stuff like mushroms that are hard to get, coins that are optional and even that mini slide with mario race music. Cool stuff.

Design tip: You can place Monty Moles on see-saws to make them tilt. Since Monty tracks Mario's position, you can use that to change the see-saw's tilt direction and tilt angle.

One of my more challenging levels is this one : 91Y-8W1-VRF No one made it past the first few jumps, so only play this if you‘re up for a challenge. This stage uses the new jumps in 3D world really well in my opinion, so never forget that longjumps are a thing now! Hope to see you there as the first clear!

Check Points in Speedruns are actually kinda interesting. If you have a dev-exit to beat the level without use of any checkpoints, you can, basically, make it so that getting to the checkpoint itself is already a speedrun. Aside from that, checkpoints are also great for scaling the difficulty. Make a really hard speedrun, really tight on time, with an optional checkpoint: People can try beating it in one go for the personal achievement, or, if you are not that good, you can use the checkpoint to still experience the full level.

The description for Slippery Mushroom did in warn about the kaizo block...but not the fish. Looks like the end of that second level was a gripping experience. Had to claw your way to victory there. REALLY should've had a key-door in that big Boom-Boom fight so you couldn't just run away... I'm guessing it was that person's first speedrun level so they dropped a checkpoint to make it somewhat easier. That bom-omb part could have used a bit more direction, but over all great level. Thanks for the video Ryu.
