It's ironic that the Many Sides of Voice Actor Radio has been mentioning the idea of VA having personas and what happens when their personas are revealed to be fake. I think we the fans tend to forget that what we see or hear from VAs are just one side to them. We don't know if what we see or hear are really them all the time. So it might be better for all of us to take a step back and not get so attached since we do find out that this VA did this horrible thing to people, we won't be so emotionally hurt by it. Toru Furuya won't be the last celebrity that we find out that they did something horrible.

My umbreon that I had sense omega ruby back in 2016, is named Rei Furuya, after the character that he voices and the character that was named after him. When I heard that this happened, I felt disgusted. I'm still keeping my umbreon, whatever it was named after him.

Yeah, voice actors are still human beings. I'm a big admirer of several Spanish-speaking VA but in the last few years some of them have been involved in a ton of controversy, perhaps the most notable case happened with Luis Daniel Ramírez. Luis was a very popular Mexican VA who started his VA career as young kid in various cartoons and TV shows, he voiced characters like Max Goof, Spider-Man, Ed from Ed, Edd & Eddy, Numbuh 2 is KND, Clark Kent in Smallville, Davis in Digimon 02, Taikobo in Hoshin Engi '99, Touya Kinomoto in Sakura Cardcaptor, Horo Horo in Shaman King, etc. But in late 2020 people noticed he began appearing less and less and he didn't reprise some of his roles. The reason was that various voice actresses discovered that he placed hidden cameras in the ladies restroom in the recording studio he owned. He admitted to have placed the cameras and he was basically banned from all dubbing studios, his wife divorced him and her daughters also distanced themselves from him

Morally bad, but in the end, as long as no laws were broken, then this affair remains something between two adults. Tabloids love to sensationalize things, and yes, exploiting a fan's love for the character you play is really really despicable, but things can be worse. Like Tatsuhisa Suzuki's affair which potentially breached confidentiality agreements related to work, or Takahiro Sakurai's affairs which bordered on being marriage scams. But if you look at things in another way, tabloids covering voice actors in Japan also means that voice acting as a profession is gaining a lot more recognition in Japan than before.

Detective Conan's mangaka is Gosho Aoyama, not Toru Furuya. Also, Furuya voiced Yamcha (Dragon Ball), Seiya (Saint Seiya), Tuxedo Mask (Sailor Moon) & Toru Amuro (Detective Conan).
