"Because where does he end up after his performance? Back in the subway. Joe finds himself back where he was before he got his break. All those people he thought he could escape, that selfish human nature that he thought he'd be able to transcend magically by becoming someone else, are all back where he left them." This hit home pretty hard. Thank you for your video. Beautiful analysis.

great video bro i never thought about how joe could be a lost soul
@guttaqueenn5 ай бұрын
something told me to google it when the man explained how a soul in the “ zone “ is no different than a lost soul because they become so obsessed that they’re lost . & that made me think , ooohh and Joe is so obsessed with this music gig he literally doesn’t pay attention to life itself , therefore, a lost soul. & ive seen this twice and i keep learning something new

I'm loving the perspective but I would like to respond to you at 7:54 - I don't think this is a scene about his selfishness; As Connie's teacher, Joe Gardner has a pretty good idea of Connie's passion and her skill with music. The thing he says "we don't have time for this" to me implies that this is not a one off, that Connie lacks self confidence and doubts herself and that no matter how much Joe reassures her it doesn't seem to help. And given Joe's life crisis right now, It's probably not the best time to be dealing with this again. If anything this scene is about 22, and their learning why people love being on earth. Their fascination with Connie's playing reflects a progression in 22's character arc. At least that's how I'm seeing it 😅. But I definitely like your analysis even if I don't quite agree with it

Soul is just.....it has to be the most surprising movie i've ever seen. I kinda wrote off soul when I saw the inital trailers but GOD DAMN!, it is currently my favorite pixar movie, and easily makes top 10 best movies i've seen. This movie kinda changed my life with it's message "the meaning of life is just to live it". This movie came at a good time in my life where I was, aimless, in life I shall say. and while I am still working with that, i'd be in a much worse spot if not for this master class of a film. SBV you should definitely talk about Pixar as a studio sometime, their knack for understanding the human mind, it's incredible-

Im actually in a very similar situation in life as joe. Also passionate about music. But I realized that the reasons im obsessed with making a career out of it are quite dark. I quit university 2 years ago for this passion. And Im thinking of going back to school for something else than music. Just so I could start enjoying/focusing on Life again. Loved this video!

Lovely video! As far as more topics for videos go... Well IDK. I don't know what shows and movies you like or dislike. You seem to like animation a lot so maybe you can do an analysis on an animation for a more mature audience.

I was thinking the same of what you said in this video and stuff like that, hence, how I found this video after searching, “is Joe a lost soul”, or something like that, can’t remember even though I searched it like 15 minutes ago (I’m 16:27 in the video so far 😂). “Some people get caught up in something that isn't necessarily bad-cooking, video games, art,” says director Pete Docter. “But if you do it to the exclusion of everything else in life, you might become a lost soul.” - From the Pixar website. So I totally agree, Joe had to be, the film shows that Joe was a lost soul, throughout the whole movie, obsessed with Jazz, (even offscreen wise, because Joe as he even stated himself ((can’t remember exactly what he fully said, something along the lines of “All I think about is Jazz, it’s my reason for living”, etc like that the scene when he’s talking to his mother)), and yeah, since he first fell in “love” (obsession) with Jazz as a young kid, he’s been obsessed with Jazz his whole life, but I’m now realizing presently, he couldn’t have been too obsessed with Jazz, still obsessed, but not too obsessed because he was still able to literally look back at his past and remember the times he spent he, including time with: his father playing the piano, mother, time spent with 22, etc like that. I guess naturally going through life, it’s inevitable to 100% exclude some things and stuff like that, but still, especially when he got older, at the point and age of his life as we saw in the film, he must’ve gotten slowly more obsessed with Jazz, and especially when he was getting closer to his goal/dream of becoming a professional jazz player and stuff like that, he was so obsessed, he even was so selfish that he thought he deserved to live more and attain his “dream” and told 22 she wasn’t worthy of living. And man, this movie as most people said, so underrated and everything like that, so much you could say and stuff, but the crazy moment, ironically, when everything “clicked”, I guess you could say, maybe even better, he wasn’t - lost, anymore was when he attained his dream. That’s when his life “flipped” the right way, he wasn’t lost anymore, he realized as he said, he was “wrong”, and I’m glad too, he realized right away, he had to fix one of those wrongs, especially the wrong/ wrong thing he said to 22 telling her she was unworthy of life, and you can even say he didn’t do selfishly for himself, he did it because it was the right thing to do, the right thing to right that wrong he made to 22, and again, not for himself, or to redeem himself or anything like that, just to do the right thing, and in doing so, he factually ended up redeeming himself. And as the, I can’t remember what you call, the universal care keepers of the You Seminar, just remembered there name was Jerry or something like that, but Jerry 😂 was so Inspired by Joe’s act, that, he was granted another chance at life, instead of going to the Great Beyond, and I guess you could say, that that redemption on his part, he redeemed himself another chance at life.

Yes, a great set of films for sure! Some of my personal favourites.
@pikachuthegayatheist62155 ай бұрын
Yes, but here’s the thing Joe wasn’t the one talking to his mother in that scene, it was 22. Remember Joe was inside Mr. Mitten’s body at the time. However, they were several times were Joe almost did become a loss soul.

Yes, but you’re something else “I would die a happy man if I could play with Dorothy Williams,” could actually have multiple memes and while in this movie Joe is expressing his feelings towards opportunity, that is not what most people who are mentors or teachers would mean when they say this.

Also, I want to say this. This is the added in the film, but most people who haven’t been able to gain financial independence are forced to be stuck particularly in the area of trying to gain financial success. It’s unfortunate because they’re forced into this. This is because of capitalism itself forces people to become lost in an attempt to gain financial success.
