What really upsets me is this idea that 5 people can speak for the millions of people who clearly don't want this. Clearly the FCC chairman is treating this like a huge joke. All that corrupt prick wants is to get it repealed and go back to his job at Verizon and get a huge bonus.
@anitamathew80836 жыл бұрын
Ajit Pai, was appointed to be the head of the FCC by the President of the United States, who was given the authority to do so by the American people, through its Democratic process. The FCC repealing Net Neutrality is our Democracy working. If this upsets you, don't blame democracy; blame the people who voted for a candidate who was clearly aligned with huge cooperations and who appointed a former lawyer of an internet service provider to head the governing body that regulates internet service providers. It is not as though Donald Trump did not know where Ajit Pai's alliance was when he picked him either. This is what Donald Trump wanted and the voters gave him the power to implement it.

I probably worded it incorrectly. I mostly mean 5 people speaking for a majority of us and ignoring most of the polls and outcry of the American people regarding net neutrality. That's what i intended to say. I did fix it to make my point more clear.

It's about people voting for something that'll make them a lot of money at the expense of everyone else. Unless you own a significant number of shares in a cable company or you don't use the internet you will be worse off. That means Republicans, Democrats, Americans & non-Americans

Isn't the option to pay $ to have access to all ScreenJunkies content (ScreenJunkies+) similar to the concept of ISP's tiering their options? Pay less = view certain content. Pay more = see all content. Businesses being businesses. I love ScreenJunkies I just find this ironic. I could be making an unfair comparison though.
@mylescalvert66616 жыл бұрын
Darewin Ocampo Well said. But my understanding of repealing net neutrality (which for the record if I lived in the US I would certainly fight against its repeal) doesn't involve taking away the Internet as a communication tool and information source for anyone.
@mylescalvert66616 жыл бұрын
Darewin Ocampo If the repeal does go through (i'm routing for you guys that it doesn't), a silver lining might be if ISPs offer a bronze package of some kind that senior citizens (some of who primarily use the internet to send emails and post pictures of their grand kids) or others with low income households can take advantage of to save significant money for their budget annually. That might be too optimistic of these companies though, but it's a real possibility I suppose.
@agusti926 жыл бұрын
But that already happens, and it's called having plans with different velocities. What we are discussing is opening the possibility of discriminating content and adjusting speeds within the velocities you already paid for.

Appreciate you guys taking on this topic. It is tumultuous, and for the strangest reasons. I would line up, probably moderate right, I like to see things on both sides of the line of division and hope that there are others out there that do the same. What Dan said around the 10 minute mark is spot on. Something like this removes a basic tenant of free speech because they are allowing people to legally impose bias onto their customers.. Hopefully this doesn't take off. Hopefully, as this progresses through various procedures and even state law suits it gets shut down.

@julieharden24336 жыл бұрын
The repeal of Net Neutrality allows ISP (Internet Service Providers; AT&T, Spectrum, Comcast, Time Warner, Verizon, etc...) to treat the internet like they treat cable channels. If you have cable from one of these companies, you are offered multiple packages, and each package contain different channels, each costing a different dollar amount. For example, you can chose the cheapest "Basic Cable" package, or you can upgrade for more money to add Showtime, or upgrade even more to add HBO. Further, some of these cable companies don't offer a particular channel or channels no matter how much you pay. Like when Time Warner stopped airing CBS or The Weather Channel because they couldn't come to an agreement. Or years ago when most cable companies didn't offer the NFL channel. These companies will now be able to do this with the internet - split the internet up into packages and charge different amounts for different packages. And, some may not offer certain websites or services at all because the two companies are competitors (Google and Amazon, for example). So not only will you be charged to access the internet, you will also be charged for the content you go to once your on the internet. This is bad for everybody but the big broadband companies. Some government regulation is good. This was an example of good government regulation., and the FCC who, I'm sure, is getting large sums of money from broadband company lobbyists to repeal Net Neutrality., are loving this. Always follow the money.

I'm Canadian and still have Net neutrality but this shit is scary from my end. The two biggest influencers here are the UK & the US both of which are currently in political turmoil. Luckily we currently have a leader who has expressed distaste for the leaders of the aforementioned countries, but leaders change. And as much Canada seems caring with the amount of socialist ideals and things in place our current landscape regarding digital media is a triumvirate of government backed corporations who have consumers by the balls. We pay substantially more for the same digital services with less infrastructure, fewer protective laws, and a much slower to adapt government (predominantly because we have gov. funding for entertainment media networks). Precedent has been set here, I mean what Spencer described regarding the water analogy is very similar to how electricity is charged here (not all of Canada but most). Different rates at different times of the day to promote eco-friendly usage, which of course end results to higher bills and having to sit in the dark for several hours a day just to save money. Imagine that as your internet where at specific times of the day your speed would intentionally be reduced to not allow video streaming and you pay more, plus everything mentioned in this video as well. What really bothers me about this whole thing is the numerous stories about fraudulent influence sent to the FCC, numerous falsified accounts (many using real living peoples identities without permission) saying they are "pro" removing neutrality and in spite of this the vote wasn't pushed back? Some truly disturbing Orwellian hijinks have happened and continue to happen.
