@@SeriousStriker It isn't really a Star Wars finale. Rian aborted the trilogy and tried to restart it with TLJ, which has really hurt the property. This is essentially either part two of Rian's or part two if JJ's. If it is to be a finale then there needed to be another movie of either of theirs sequences. Well...it is both....it is a format, but there are also specific tropes which are connected with the format. But I understand what you are getting at. I understand how we get to this state today. I'm just disappointed. There are many stories that can be told in an animation format, but because of these deeply held "genre-conventions", American/Hollywood animation may never reach the same kind of creativity peak that Japanese Anime has. And that is a shame, because I do also believe that there are stories that only American, and not the Japaneses, would tell. @The Kid from Ironman 3 2 billion is still a barely attainable goal. There are only 5 movies who have made 2 billion. It is rare. The Rise of Skywalker is easily making over 1 billion dollars. IMO, Disney is leaving money on the table by not continuing the Skywalker saga and should have milked the cow until it was dry. Their only "failure" was Solo, and that was the only movie not directly related to the Skywalker story.
@SimonBuchanNz5 жыл бұрын
@@UNFITTED1 movies stay in theatres for as long as they are making money (and the contract with the studio requires), and are more often about 30 days. Star Wars is going to be out longer than that, to be sure, but the majority of the money is earned in the first few weeks, so it's not going to hit $2B, for example. Yes, ROS is a financially successful film, the issue is that it's not as successful as it seems like it should be, which means everyone's trying to figure out why: is it poor critical reviews, negative audience reaction to TLJ or Solo carrying over, oversaturation, marketing, etc. Saying it's doing well is correct, but missing the point: it's not doing as well as it "should", ie. as predicted. Also, no need for name calling.

"all the pieces were there after TLJ" What are you talking about? TLJ basically wrapped up all the setups of TFA leaving no where to go except doing another Return of the Jedi. The entire movie either threw out plot ideas, killed them off, or simply ignored them. This is why RoS was just a disjointed mess. New ideas had to be built from the ground up to make a movie. Instead of Snoke you had to bring back Palps. Nothing was done with Finn and there was too much to do in this last film to really build his character up. Ditto with Po. Honestly I would have love to have seen what Johnson would have done with a 3rd film as really the only focus you could have done was on the First Order, but as a wrap-up to the trilogy you need a single big bad guy as the point person to defeat. It could have been Ben, it should have been both or Rey. Johnson blew a cannonball sized hole through the setup that JJ did in TFA that I really have a hard time seeing anything that wouldn't be disjointed. The best I've seen is somewhat of a combination of the Fanscription idea. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqWzmIZnoZiFrtE
