@Broken Gear So we have a KZbin villain origin story: Filmento was once a great KZbin reviewer. His insight and analysis had elevated him to the top tier of film critiques online. But, as his fanbase grew, so did his ego. Eventually, he began to think of himself as all powerful. Until, one fateful day, KZbin rejected him from contributing his believed wisdom with other KZbin notables. And so resentment began to grow in Filmento's heart...for his pride had become so great, that he couldn't believe his talents weren't recognized. No matter, Filmento thought: eventually I will be recognized for my greatness. But one year later, it happened again. Finally, Filmento had enough: He would be recognized no matter what. This time, it was war.

One of the biggest changest changes that happened during the production is that they *swapped villains.* As Filmento pointed out, there is a drastic shift half way through the movie, where the studio poked a bunch of holes in the script. If you're familiar with even more basic the F4 lore, you can tell that the "other dimension" is a take on the *Negative Zone* from the comic and the villain assossiated with it is *Annihilus* who also possess the kind of powers the plot gave Dr Doom that he normally doesn't have. After the movie flopped the director actually confirmed this and that the studio believed that a villain other than Dr Doom would confuse the audience. *Points at Iron Man movies*

So the studio wanted Dr Doom as the villain because they think any other antagonist would confuse the moviegoers? I heard people complaining that Joker has been overused in the movies, but at least Warner Bros knew there are more Batman villains other than him.
@GreycatRademenes
@GreycatRademenes 4 жыл бұрын
@@Filmento Yeah, I remember either the director or the writer shared it via twitter a while after the movie was officially a flop. They mentioned that they were adapting the "Ultimate Universe" F4 (another thing you can tell if you're somewhat familiar with source) and wanted a more original take. If you want you can try looking it up, I don't wish to misinform if I got anything wrong.

@Greycat R "As Filmento pointed out, there is a drastic shift half way through the movie" He also lists problems that were started in the first half of the movie. "If you're familiar with even more basic the F4 lore" The problem is that most people aren't. Very few people have read the comics or seen the TV show; they only know about the F4 from the previous movies. "the studio believed that a villain other than Dr Doom would confuse the audience. Points at Iron Man movies" You do realise that no one cares about most of the Iron Man villains. The first movie is about Tony learning to be responsible, with a boss battle at the end. The second movie is Tony learning how to make a better power core so it won't kill him, with a villain who has to side with an evil company so he can actually build a suit that a threat to Tony. The third movie is a complete mess that promised one villain and gave the audience a villain no one cared about. Had Fant4stic promised Dr Doom but given the audience Annihilus it would have failed even harder. By contrast if the F4 had gone to the Negative Zone, found Annihilus, and had to defeat him for some reason this would have made all the problems the fault of the F4 and it would have been just as bad.

Here's hoping that the MCU can actually pull it off. The ingredients are there if Marvel wants to hire a competent team. They could go with the idea of Doom trying to save his mother's soul with Astral Projection (which was established in 2017's Doctor Strange), and Wandavision nearly delved into Mephisto. The MCU also introduced elements like the Quantum Realm and the Multiverse, both of which can play into the wacky adventures of the Team the way the Fox Films could not.

The climax is him breaking out of the cave and returning home, and it ends with a teaser of him making the 2nd suit. That is what Fant4stic is like."

or better: the first 50 minutes is Tony in the cave, then he escapes. flash forward to one year later: he has just finished building the Mark 3 and he already can fly it perfectly; he is in a relationship with Pepper, and Obadiah has built the Iron Monger armour. final battle, Tony wins. the end.

I guess the idea is that if he alone can do as much damage as an entire battalion, then the mission can be limited to only a few key support personnel, making it "covert". Also, since he has no US markings or uniform, and can never be captured, plausible deniability can be maintained. Obviously, you run the risk that the enemy publishes the footage they capture, but my guess is that: a) The enemy would gain no benefit by publicizing a loss if they're unable to link the monster to a specific country b) the installations being attacked are probably already secret or illegal to begin with. To be clear, covert operations don't mean that they're secret from everyone. The enemy can know that they were attacked. The idea is that the sponsor of the attack can publicly deny involvement.

Is it bad that I tend to prefer reviews of bad scenes or movies? Whenever I watch a review of something that turns out positive, my thought process is to stop the video right there before the reviewer spoils any of the good parts and just go watch the movie for myself. With bad movies, though, it’s less painful to watch a KZbinr make jokes over the whole movie like an episode of Mystery Science Theatre 3000 than to try to watch a bad movie seriously on my own time. It’s also just easier to learn from bad movies, since the movie can’t rely on suspension of disbelief or even just entertainment to make the audience more forgiving of plot holes or poor storytelling.

They honestly had a great source of conflict/growth for the final fight in the form of the suits. Imagine, somehow, Doom manages to short out the tech in their suits (at least for Reed, Johnny, and Sue). This forces them to come together and get a handle on their powers in a way they never had to do because the suits helped them. It could've even been tied to their emotional states, making them forgive each other (but probably mostly Reed) and bring about growth in that manner.

One of my biggest gripes with this movie (besides all the other obvious flaws) is that Reed told Ben he would come back for him, and then he spends a year in the wilderness on his own doing stuff we don’t even hear about, and then Ben finally catches up to him and asks Reed why he abandoned him, and Reed just says “I’m no good to you,” and that’s that. Reed never says that he’s been spending the last year looking for a cure, we never get to see any results of what he’s been working on that entire time, we never get to see any guilt that he supposedly feels about leaving Ben (honestly, the movie makes it seem as if he has none). He just gets recaptured by the military and now he’s working with them again to go back to the other dimension to stop Doom and save the world. And that’s it. Ben asks the question we were all wondering at the time skip (“Why?”), we never get an answer, and that’s that.

The whole movie felt like a first act. Movies have three acts: set up, confrontation/problems, solution. Its like they were planning create their own MCU back when fox own the movie rights to X-Men and TF4. That why this film felt so bland because was to set up multiple sequals to compete with the MCU
@Geral454
@Geral454 4 жыл бұрын
That trend is annoying. There are no more one-issue story, Hollywood always left pieces for sequels, so the movies do not feel round and complete by itself. It was very thrilling before, when a sequel was announced and the people know they've obtaining a new story.
@dakat5131
@dakat5131 4 жыл бұрын
Even the MCU establishes the films better though. Like sure they're made with the other films in mind, but (most of them, at least) don't feel like they're only there as an excessively long opening statement longing for the rest of the films to complete them. I can see the similarities and can see how just trying to copy what it looks like can lead to a shallow and awkward result though. There admittedly is a bit of a shift later on, once more films are assured, but they still needed a strong, self contained start. Starting off with the assumption that the next guy will give all your hooks weight just isn't going to work. (That doesn't mean all the MCU films are great, but many of the stories can be experienced independently, with the exception of some of the latter ones that do jump into an existing situation). The tone matters as well- films that presume you'll be interested in a hypothetical future movie without committing to it just results in a dull film preoccupied with an unpromised future. The audience has to actually care what the next segment will bring to have the patience to sit through a filler film. Trying to copy the full-speed full momentum state of MCU without considering how it got there and thinking that the appearance will automatically guarantee success just dooms the film to a cancelled series when surprise, nobody cares what's coming next.
@dakat5131
@dakat5131 4 жыл бұрын
@@Geral454 seems like the films that depend on the sequels assume you care as much as you would if you already had momentum going. If you've watched a great film, you might be interested to see what they have to say next. With a mediocre film, there's no motivation to care. Seems like the pattern is, adapt a successful strategy- but only on it's current iteration, and without any regard for why it's successful- and then they're surprised when it doesn't work. With the MCU, most of the movies are worth watching on their own, until some of the latter ones, and by then you're hooked. The sense that you'll get a complete and satisfying story whether or not a sequel comes, rather than being spoonfed bits and pieces of a shorter part of a story stretched out over 2 hours so they can save some material for the sequel.(It's like buying a game and then finding out a vital feature is sold as a pricy addon. Some people will still spring for it, but the game just won't be fun to play if it doesn't have a fun core gameplay for other things to compliment)
