They actually make Bass ukelele's that can be amplified to achieve some pretty interesting results. Because of the rubbery nature of the strings they can actually do a way better job of mimicking and upright bass than most normal electric basses if you dial in the tone right (which is hilarious to see people react to considering how much smaller it is). I knew one guy a few years ago who had a fretless one and it was like the main focus of his band, he put it through a bunch of pedals and did a ton of really interesting shit with it.
@ronanmcintyre3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I have one and I love how it sounds, its a very round, squishy, and bassy sound, quite different to any sound I can get from my electric bass. "Jacob Collier - Boogie On Reggae Woman (on the U-Bass)" is a good demonstration for it. It's also handy to have a bass that's just tiny that you can pick up and hear without having to plug it in

Heck yes. Though since like the 1500's hurdy gurdys weren't a popular instrument. Overly complex mechanisms and the lack of ability to blend in an orchestra left the hurdy gurdy as something a busker would be playing, often out of tune, at some cheesy town fair. Hey man The Fall had an oboe on not one but TWO of their most well-regarded records (Slates and Extricate), it can sound dope in the right context. Also that huge Soviet-era synthesiser that's bolted to the floor in some Moscow university that you draw on to create the music is fucking dope, Coil did a whole album with it

The best and worst instrument ever made is the human voice. On the bad end, it's done everything from The Nostalgia Critic's The Wall to Pope Urban II's speech to rally Europe to begin the crusades. While there are obviously great things it's been used for, such as Sufjan Stevens' Futile Devices and the seminal classic 'I Smashed Tha Arecibo Satelit Cuz I Dint Want They Seein My Space Crack Operation' by Our Lord And Savior Viper, I think overall the human voice has been a net negative. Close second worst instrument though is the piccolo. It's obnoxious to tune and while it sounds nice enough *when you're nowhere near it* , playing it often irreparably damages your hearing and gives you an excuse to 'not have heard' me saying my mother was coming to stay with us for the weekend, Mel. I guess the piccolo also makes people inattentive. What a terrible instrument.

I’m gonna have to hard disagree on the Bass Ukulele. As someone who owns one I love the unique timbre it has. It sounds similar to a stand up bass when you play it finger style and it has a LOT of attack when you play it with a pick. It has a much better sound and much more of a bottom end than a regular acoustic bass despite being much smaller. The small neck also allows you to get around the fretboard much more easily than a standard full scale bass.
