I never understood Ben here. Reed did everything he could to transform him (and them) back. But this is very complex and you have to do it right. You can't blame Reed for taking a break to avoid mistakes. Otherwise his best friend could get killed by his mistake and that's what Reed really doesn't want to. It's not like he stopped working for a week, he literally fell asleep while working on a solution and Susan had to force him to take a break. I understand, that the situation was hard for Ben, but his best friend did everything to get him back to normal and he questions him for taking a break? That's not fair.
@jetguy1282 жыл бұрын
Reed did nothing wrong but you have to understand Ben. Reed, Sue, and Johnny all got powers but they still look the same and they are even celebrities. But Ben is treated like a monster, a "thing", even the love of his life left him. And thats why i love this scene. A good written scene. The family dynamic is there as well. One can sympathize and understand both points of view. Thing is ugly and not accepted by people, especially his loved one. Not only that, but its hard for him to benefit off of his powers, as it only offers him brute strength, whereas the others got kickass powers and look the same and can lead normal lives still if they want to. Thing doesnt have a choice or those options. While Reed is working hard at it and tirelessly, he still has time to go on a date with his lover, adding salt to the lost love wound of the Thing. How can your focus be on one thing specifically as well as say that is your main goal, but then you have time to not work on the project to play romance. So the Thing was correct in that aspect. However, from Reed's pov and side of things, its completely understandable that he is in the right, as he has been working nonstop on it for the most part and while being smartest man alive, it doesnt mean its easy and its still very taxing on his mind. And he still does have a relationship to water. Part of his situation is that he has to balance all of these situations to please everyone, as a lover to Susan and a friend and family member to the rest, Thing included. And when he finally does put off his work, which is very rare for Reed, he still gets punished for it. I also love that this scene shows accurate characterization of the two. Reed barely has time for his love life, as the leader of the fantastic four, as well as being the brains of the whole thing and still having a responsibility to the rest of the world, as one of the worlds greatest scientific minds. Not only that, but he is a perfectionist, and sometimes that means he uses more time than he can afford or never finished on certain projects. The machine could be good enough already, but Reed wants to perfect it, out of his necessity and out of wanting to make sure nothing goes wrong. The Thing is hot headed, an isolationist at heart, and impatient, so its fitting that he doesnt want to wait and has no care as to if it things can get worse, because there is a possibility of it solving everything and thats all he hears or cares about. While he doesnt put much care into his well being, the rest of his family do. Finally, you get the brawler Thing trying to release his hit head anger and solve things through brute force, even attacking, compared to Reed, who even after being pushed and all, doesnt want to fight. And when he does decide that he must act through physical means, he doesnt even attack or hit the Thing, but only subdues him and dodges his attacks. And as for Susan, she gets ignored by the Thing in this scene, and even brushed aside. Almost finally getting her way of Reed focusing on her for once, and when she almost finally gets it, it only causes drama to the group dynamic and causes Reed and the Thing to get into an altercation. She is invisible women, as without even using her powers, shes "invisible" to Mr. Fantastic and in this scene, "invisible" to Ben.

Michael Chiklis as the Thing was an absolutely perfect casting choice. It's on par with Kelsey Grammer as Beast, Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool and RDJ as Iron Man. He's able to convey so much emotion through all that makeup and he truly captures the character's sassy and brutish nature. Even the voice is exactly how I imagined from the comics. I was never really a fan of the other casting choices, especially Jessica Alba as Sue. I didn't feel like she captured Sue's motherly personality from the comics. Ioan Gruffudd as Reed also didn't sit well with me. They tried to make him adorkable and nerdy but Reed was never socially awkward in the comics, as he was very charismatic and outspoken. Chris Evans as Johnny was...okay. But he didn't really get much focus other than being a child-like comic relief.

Both versions had their problems. The main problems with the Tim Story movies is how they did Sue and Doom. They always focused on how sexy Jessica Elba is rather than focusing on the character as a person. Doom isn’t supposed to get powers from the same accident that create the 4. Doom is a master of magic and is as brilliant as Reed and Tony Stark. He is a dictator of his own country, so he has diplomatic immunity. His main goal is to rule the world in the comics. All he does in these movies is create havoc. He acts like Lex Luthor in these movies but in the comics he is so much more than that.

The casting for these films was surprisingly good, especially Laurence Fishburne as The Silver Surfer. I just hope Dr. Doom isn't just some snidy, whiny prick in the MCU. Still waitin' on that Giancarlo Esposito casting, MARVEL...
@rileyribble67332 жыл бұрын
@N-Gin & TonicTM I love Giancarlo but honestly he’s not Dr. Doom material imo. He’s a phenomenal actor but as a huge Doom fan I just can’t envision him in the role. I think more along the lines of Nikolaj Coster Waldau, Cillian Murphy, Michael Fassbender, Alexander Skarsgård

First of all i completely understand Ben's frustration of beinga rock-based creature but i agree with Reed there, without testing he would not be sure if the machine works.

If you're wondering what Susan Storm might have done if Reed didn't stop Ben was that she would have used her force field bubble to make him calm down even though Ben would haven't been able to breath something that Fantastic Four: World's Greatest Heroes animated series did later in episode when she used on the Hulk which of course didn't work, but she at least did her best to calm down Hulk as well. Overall, I could see why she didn't stop Ben and let Reed handle it instead since they're best friends after all making the rescue to save him later on in movie make a lot of sense after figuring out Doom's plan when he turns back into a human from Reed's machine later on in the film as well. So, please stop asking what Susan Storm would have done when it's obvious that early in the movie she can use some types of force fields when testing her powers after saving people from the bridge and returning to the Baxter Building.
@redshepherd323 ай бұрын
even if this was an early point for sue. It's told she eventually learned to just form fields inside your body. So she can literally bypass defense to harm people. Blow off limbs, blow up your head, destroy your internal organs, ect. She and Johnny are arguablly the two stronger of the 4. Johnny having his supernova.
