Nice!! Been wishing I could mount a robot above my lathe. Most all I see are floor mounted or on a movable cart, I assume. Never thought of mounting inside a mill, thats nice! Any issues with coolant or chips?

Somewhere here on KZbin I saw a Fanuc promotional video highlighting just that, the robots are mounted above the machines on a gantry. It's really pretty straightforward, you just build a platform over your lathe to support the robot and install it just like you would if it was on the floor. You can pick up used robots at industrial surplus places for a few thousand bucks. Coolant / chips / grit infiltration is a constant battle. Fanuc know their stuff, I'm sure these are pretty well protected. But modern synthetic coolants are nasty stuff to petroleum based products. It causes plastics to become brittle and fall apart and rubber to swell and turn to gum. In this case, I'd at least hang a rubber loin cloth in front of the 1st robot joint that's directly exposed to coolant spray to protect it from high pressure coolant spray and chips which over time will strip even the best of paints clean.

Is this your personal machine or a customers? Would like to see more on the automation system, cost, etc. My company is looking into automation solutions for High Mix Low Volume in a small footprint.

This is a machine in our machining shop. This type of automation is intended more for a larger number of components from a similar block. But if you're good at robot programming, you can easily change shelves, change the program, zero points, and make other kinds of parts. If you are looking for other options, I can recommend Haeberle. They make advanced robot and machine integrations.

Why’s the robot moving so slowly? I work with FANUC machines and their robots all day at my job, making automation systems. They’re capable of moving much faster than this and still be very accurate, but I have seen reasons for running them slowly like this.
@marcseclecticstuff9497 Жыл бұрын
My guess is they had the rapids turned down to make it easy for the audience to follow the 'action'. As you know running at full speed, especially this tiny one, they can move so fast it's hard to see the motion so they slowed it down. It looked like it sped up for a short period in one part like they were bumping the rapid feed control. I'm a CNC Tech responsible for about 100 machines, bigger stuff - 650 800 1000 1600mm machine centers / lathes mostly Fanuc controls. Work on everything, mechanical, controls, editing ladders, electrical, and even component level electronic repair.

quicker for me to open m/c door and put in new part, then robo hand.

Manual handling with workpieces is ok for 5, 10, 20 .... parts. This is for large volume of pieces such as 600 and more. You can run this thing all day without mistakes...
