Thank you for highlighting my culture too. I was born in Thailand but came to the USA as a baby but never visited Thailand. I am vegetarian now so it is hard for me to go to family events cause the amount of meat dishes at events. This channel and vid brings joy to me knowing one day when I reunited with my birth country, I can visit the Hmong village and have a meal with them.

As a child I did not appreciate the simplicity of our Hmong food but now that I’m older, I crave the simplicity and freshness of our foods. It’s harder to come by the veggies my parents cooked with when I was a child as they grew the veggies. Now I have to hope to find these veggies in a Hmong store.

Cool episode. I have been tracking this channel for years, and it has been especially helpful to cope through the pandemic. It is lovely to see all of the nooks and crannies of Thailand. I appreciate getting to know it on a day-to-day view, not just swooping in as a tourist. If I could continue traveling, this is how I live to experience life, just taking in the pace of normal life, not skimming the surface from spectacular site to site. The real beauty is the stuff that is everyday.

I love that pork skin with the veggies. And the plate with just stir fried vegetables. So simple but so good. Taste buds SPIKE!
@drakedraven69613 жыл бұрын
My fellow brother, that's not our recipe. It's Laotian. I'm sorry, my man. Beside it's an unhealthy recipe despite the fact it has pork skin. You know much fat content that is inside that plate. Vegan ain't vegan if it has meat. Our way of life is the chicken boil 😆😂🤣🤣 That's pretty much it for Hmong people living in South East Asia during the time our great ancestry migrated there from China. It's all fusion recipes nowadays in the modern era, hope you realized that.

@@drakedraven6961 you’re soo salty! Lol! Went through all the comments and all you do is criticize. Why is that? I’m sure some of these dishes has been modified but as a Hmong woman, we do eat deep fried pork rinds boiled with mustard greens just like that dish the Hmong lady cooked. Grow up you troll. So negative. Smh.

@drakedraven69613 жыл бұрын
It's not Hmong food. 😂 It's a fusion between Laos and Vietnamese cuisines like it always been. They migrated from China to South East Asia during the Qing Dynasty. Their history and food recipes were long disappeared from that time period. The only thing they kept were the clothing and musical instruments that was truly meaningful. Foods can change, but tradition always remain the same. To thrive, life is about adapting in what environment area or region you live at in order to survive.

A recommended dish is the hmong soul food, braised pork head, legs and all fatties parts of the pig. It's the best thing ever. It comes in 2 styles of ginger and green mustard veggies. It takes the whole day to make it

You don't see a lot of coconut milk in Hmong food. Not a plant local to most Hmong areas. But Thailand being one of the biggest producers and exporters of coconuts, it's not a surprise that it's used even in places in the country where it can't be grown. All of this food looks delicious. Thanks Mark and Ying for your hard work. It brings us all a little moment of joy in our lives to experience these places and foods through your videos.
