Ahhh, a Delcotron 10SI alternator- my favorite conversion. Cheap, reliable, easy to build, easy to wire up, and lots of power for a use like the M. Squatch may not approve, but gets two thumbs up from this electrician.

Looking forward to the wiring . I love doing wiring back in the day. I have wired race cars from scratch. Calculating current draw from each device, and use proper wiring and fuse value. I was very meticulous I'm dressing the wiring and how the wire ran. if you're wearing looks anything like what you've done to the Tractor it will be excellent 👍👍

Hi Squatchs. I seem to remember my Dad showing me decades ago how different threads were used here back then on each end of head studs. Coarser ones where they went into the cast iron of course, finer for the nuts. I think they were Whitworth and BSF respectively. Both used a 55° thread form unlike the UNC and UNF series. One effect was that when undoing the nuts the studs tended to stay in place.BobUK

Alternators vs. Generators... I kept my Generator on my Cub when I rebuilt it. Bought a Solar battery charger, which act's like a battery maintainer... I have a positive and negative 12 Gauge lead coming out of the battery box, which it plugs into. I set the panel on the foot board or hood, for about an hour. Even after a year tractor starts right up! Solar battery charger panels cost about 15.00 online. The other thing I did, is for lights, I went to Napa and spent some time in the parts books... and came away with a 12V lamp that fit right into the IH Light housing. I think the lamp was for an old willies style jeep? anyways... your work is awesome. Enjoying watching the progress.

At antique tractor shows I peek under every hood, if the Farmall has an alternator I give it a C-minus, if it has a non-standard generator I give it a B-minus, if it has the original three-brush generator I know that everything in the universe is as it should be and I give her an A-plus.

I converted my 45 Farmall A to 12 volt but I used the original 6 volt generator housing. Swapped out all the 6 volt internals for 12 volt ones. If you don't look at the battery you can not even tell. It will peg the 30 amp gauge if you adjust the light switch more than needed. It's got a mag so not much charging is needed.

As I was tearing down my newly acquired Ford 8N I could not believe all the mismatched hardware on this tractor. Mainly the bolts that hold the fenders on and the bots and nuts for the front axle adjustable beams together. I guess what ever they had available. I have never seen so many makeshift spacers to be able to use bolts too long for the job. Luckily there are a ton of period correct parts for the Ford 8N not that it matters...but, it matters!

Question and not a criticism. why such a big alternator? surely a smaller alternator like you would find on a wee kubota or bobcat would run the couple of lights and charge the battery on that tractor , its not like you need 130A for your bumpin' sound system.

General rule about mice and other critters: any hole that fits a pencil/ballpoint pen is in danger of becoming a mouse entrance. Maybe the mice in USA are bigger then ours in the Netherlands, but ive seen our local mice go through incredibly small holes.
@steamfan71474 жыл бұрын
Yes, and also in the US, any hole smaller than a pencil gets filled full of mud by mud dauber wasps.
@paulmanson2534 жыл бұрын
The only thing I can add to that is that mice and rats are excellent climbers. Metal screen or mesh they cannot gnaw through. Be very grateful the Netherlands does not have packrats. At least as far as I know,they are only found in North America.The mess a group of them can make in the crawlspace below the roof of a summer cabin has to be seen and smelled to be believed. Mouse urine is very corrosive. And they just love cellulose insulation. Had throw out bags of the stuff. The only good mouse is one that is being flown out by an owl. Cheers.
@marks80684 жыл бұрын
@@paulmanson253 yeah, packrats we dont have.. overhere its mostly mice, rats, squirrels, martens and sea/roadsalt combined with a damp, cool climate that ferociously eats away at our cars and houses. Btw: mice and rats will go through metal if they really have to. not the very hard stuff like stainless, but ive seen rusty thin sheetmetal firewalls with obvious rodent damage Edit: especially martens are a plague.. the damage to cars they do is incredible.. park in the wrong spot for a couple of hours and half your wiring is destroyed. Worked at a Jag dealership where we regularly had to total cars just because of wiring harnesses eaten/shorted

@@marks8068 You genuinely managed to surprise me. My friends cabin on the water has all sorts of visitors.
