Good morning Tyler, I also have one of those spreaders. Same tub etc. but ground drive. I use mine in the middle of a train (seed bed prep, spread, cover drag) when planting native grass seed. You will likely find that your gates are not tight enough to contain small seed etc. when bouncing to and from fields etc. I have some easy modifications that I made to correct those issues. I can send you pics.......

You could easily build a extention out of 1/8in sheet metal for the top of the spreader. 12in to 24in taller bolt onto the rim to increase the capacity of the spreader.

the top link hole is oversized to accommodate a class 3, three point hitch. and it appears to be 3/16 metal on the top link connection which will do just fine for the amount of weight going to be put in that Hopper

I think you will like that spreader. I’ve had two, both plastic. Current one has all stainless moving parts, except as I suspect yours is, those threaded rods and nuts near what I call the gate sleeves. I used metal (steel) ones on golf courses, larger than the one I have now. It was hard to handle mounting and removing it alone. Later in life I worked on athletic fields and parks for 22 years until cancer took me away from it in 2018. Since my sites were scattered, I usually had to put the spreader in my truck bed and leave more room on the trailer for the tractor and fertilizer. I sometimes transported the tractor with the spreader on it. The tie-breakers for me were noise and corrosion. Take heart, I was able to put 160,000 lbs (80 pallets) over 8-9 years through my first plastic spreader. If I had been willing to knock out the shaft and bearing and replaced the bearing I coud still be using it. I sold it to a friend with a farm for $100 and got the new one with stainless parts. Fertilizer is extremely corrosive. Seems to be worse when it is flung hard. Always give it a good rinse and WD-40 the impeller shaft inside and below the hopper. Especially with a tractor as big as yours, if you don’t keep that PTO shaft straight and parallel to the ground you can easily bend the impeller shaft or rip part of it through the bottom of the hopper. I know you maintain things well. These are just things I have learned. One last idea - each time you use a new material or a new setting for the gate, take a photo of where you have the gate opening pinned. Later you can easily look back and know, by date, what you were putting down. If I had a poor result I took one photo of the actual and another one of where I would set it next time. If you use the same gear and RPMs each time, it will make things easier from one time to the next. Only particle size and gate opening size will need to be considered. On most spreaders you can adjust the spread if one side is throwing heavier than the other. Hopefully, it came adjusted properly. Enjoy your new implement!

Fun seeing those big, curious, whiffling cow noses in your camera! Reminds me of wandering around my grandpa's pasture with my bug jar, with that pasture full of big, gentle Holstein dairy cows! They were curious about me and would use their noses that way. I would give them a head scratch, and they liked that! Those were wonderful times. Congratulations on getting your spreader! It's going to do a tremendous amount of good for your pasture and your stock. It'll end up paying for itself with how it's going to enrich your pasture. Well done!

I have the same one except with a poly hopper. I love it and couldn't be happier. A lot of people say broadcast spreaders are disposable implements but I've had mine several years and it still looks like new. The trick is to wash it as soon as you are done using it and then spread a thin film of oil on it using a shop rag.

We have a similar spreader that was purchased from Agri-Supply. Not sure what brand name is on it.I like the fact that the pto shaft has a piece you have to push down instead of having to pull a piece back and push. You can adjust the spreading width of spreader by moving the blades on top of the spinner. Our spreader has a piece that goes halfway up with a wheel that turns .around inside. Probably the reason for the top link hole being a little large is so it can be used on different size top links.

Since you only have spot trails, you could spot fill where they cross the levie(sp?) Maybe with corral scrapings. Spot seed add a little mulch, maybe a couple of temporary posts to divert traffic. Which would save a major rip out. No good ideas for gateways, maybe someone else does. Always enjoy your postings.

I suspect it's stainless due to salt usage. If it is not rusty and non-magnetic, it is likely austenitic stainless steel aka 300 series. Ferritic stainless (400 series) is magnetic and develops a passive red layer of oxidation on the surface.

Hello Farmer Tyler. If you want to be able to check whether a component is made of stainless steel or some other material, you can often tell with certainty by checking with a magnet. We know that metals like aluminium, brass, copper and lead are not magnetic at all, and usually we would be able to identify these visually. When it come to steel, and various alloys of steel, most of them will be magnetic. Even some grades of stainless steel are magnetic, or slightly magnetic. Some stainless steel alloys, particularly food grade stainless steel, are not magnetic at all. But even this is not a definitive guide, as I have found that stainless steel cutlery in my kitchen is somewhat magnetic. I know that stainless steel cylinders for LPG gas, as fitted to motor vehicles, are non magnetic - at least I should say that many are, and hopefully they all are. If the PTO shaft on your spreader is stainless steel, it probably will not be magnetic. If it is strongly magnetic then it may just be chrome plated steel. “I wish you luck!”

Haha, I can’t believe it, i bought the EXACT same spreader Sunday…… I’m using mine to over seed my Bermuda grass pasture with some cool season grasses (Rye,oats, wheat) trying to cut back on the hay usage this year. Our climate seems to be similar to yours, and I thought if you can grow hay in the winter, why can’t I grow forage? I’m running a little higher stocking rate than you are. I have 8 cows, 3 Bulls, 2 Steers, 2 Heifers, and 6 calves. 8 of the herd need to “go down the road” before the next calf crop…. I agree the least favorite day of the year. “Cull day” One last thing I want to mention….I have never had any problem with containing my Bulls (maybe just lucky) but being a herd animal I always make certain the bull has company, steers, other bulls, or bull calves. I think some bulls get a bad name because they don’t like to be alone in solitary confinement…. Just a thought???

I would be very surprised if those parts you mentioned were actually stainless steel. It would be nearly impossible to hit that price point, like you said. I’m inclined to think those parts are probably electroplated with something like zinc or Thin Dense Chrome (TDC). You’ll know soon enough because it will het worn on the edges, etc… and rust will start to show pretty quickly. I dont care how much anyone washes one of these, it is impossible to keep them from rusting unless you coat everything with some kind of petroleum product immediately afterwards.
