Nice. Did you like using the coffee on it?
@draespade40176 жыл бұрын
oops no it was used coffee and took a tea kettle-hot water and just poured water through bc I wanted it super light colored- and maybe I used 180 grit bc there was wood exposed; bc I wanted the weathered pallet wood effect; that stain "weathered gray" it is a real classic gray for sure- I used for my wood table top boxes and trays- :) your table is beautiful :)

Just a little FYI, if you use tsp to clean your piece it doesn't only get all the dirt & grime off but it takes the sheen off as well.
@JamiRayVintage7 жыл бұрын
Tiffany Johnson tsp is pretty strong and requires gloves. I have used it in the past if a piece is really greasy but it's not my fav.
@tiffanyjohnson31107 жыл бұрын
Jami Ray Vintage ya it is strong but it isn't for everyone I guess. Thanks for replying. I want to try that new gray stain you used. The table turned out beautiful. Oh, what do you use to hang your old windows? I used the chains that were still attached but not all of mine have the chains.

It did not work on my pine cabinet the steel wool and vinager technique.
@JamiRayVintage5 жыл бұрын
Was it raw wood? Also, the longer you let the steel wool sit in the vinegar the more reaction it will have. Sometimes lighter woods don’t change much.

@JamiRayVintage5 жыл бұрын
For which project? The oval table or the steel wool and vinegar?
@chadpeetz2465 жыл бұрын
The vinegar and steel wool
@JamiRayVintage5 жыл бұрын
chad peetz so, the vinegar is white distilled vinegar and the steel wool is 0000 fine steel wool. Let the steel wool sit in the vinegar for about 30-60 minutes (longer if you want a darker effect) and then wipe it on.

Hi, , its me again. As far as the vinegar and steel wool stain, it seems you left out one very important thing. Obviously you are mixing stain into this project, but, you do not mention how and when.....Pls explain. I love watching ur video's and I am inspired by all of ur projects. Also, you spoke about sanding veneer. Is there a way to sound a veneer table top and retain it back to its original color? Thanks so much for your help!! You are both very kind......Lainey

Steel wool and vinegar? So you just use the steel wool to apply some regular vinegar to the wood? I think I'd like to try that on an old table i have just sitting in my garage holding junk.
@JamiRayVintage7 жыл бұрын
Terri Newton yup. Every wood reacts differently we have only used it on cedar. And it only works on raw wood so you will have to sand it down :)
@gloriafields43286 жыл бұрын
How long do you let the steel wool and vinegar sit before you can use it? Do you use white vinegar or apple cider vinegar?
@JamiRayVintage6 жыл бұрын
On cedar we don’t wait. On lighter woods we let it soak for 8-10 hours or so.

Hello. Great video. On the table and bench that your husband stains, what are the stains and the clear finishes called that he uses? I want to do something similar to my table here in UK and really admire the finish you got. Thanks 😊

He stained it with Minwax Classic Gray nd then used a clear coat by minwax called polycrylic in a matte sheen.

How do you guys spray outside and not have issues with wind and bugs and sand getting into your finish? I had to build a small booth because I was tired of bugs landing in stuff and the wind turning and ending up with a colored face.

Nathan Reed sometimes we do then we have to buff it out and respray. It's a pain. But we make do with the space we have. In the winter we share the garage and it's a pain

@JamiRayVintage6 жыл бұрын
It’s not very thick. Essentially tinted water.
@JamiRayVintage6 жыл бұрын
Oh! You asked about stain, not a gray wash. The weathered gray from minwax is transparent it isn’t like a gel stain that can achieve complete coverage.

I thought you always had to take the drawers out and the doors off when painting furniture?
@Jessa88917 жыл бұрын
Julie Keenum, for a nice clean finish you should.
@JamiRayVintage7 жыл бұрын
Jessaleigh I leave them in because it's super windy here and mine always blow over and break and ruin my finish. What we do is pull the drawers out after they are sprayed and spray where they were. Then you don't get a line. Also I sprayed the inside of the cabinets so you can't see that the doors were left on. It's just a matter of preference.

Jami Ray Vintage no all week it's been hotter than heck. I working on and old oak pedestal table. Sanding and staining the top. The bottle pedestleb is what is crackling....I didn't rough it up first. I bought Lowes chalk paint and wax. Could it be the wax? It looked good until I did that. I'm so frustrated 😟

It could be the wax. I'm not sure though. I've never used Chalk paint or wax from Lowe's before. Maybe try giving it a light sand to remove the wax and paint it again. Possibly seal it with something different? It's hard to say without being there.
